SPONSORS

Dear Friends, We are delighted to share NELA’s 2021 Ad Gallery, which showcases the NELA members, law firms, Affiliates, and other organizations whose generous support this year is fueling our efforts to empower workers’ rights attorneys, promote a fair judiciary, and advocate for laws and policies that level the playing field for workers. As we do each summer, the NELA community gathered for three days in June for our Annual Convention. Being virtual did not stop us from Raising The Bar For Workers’ Rights. NELA is stronger than ever as we work together to realize a future in which all workers are treated with dignity and respect; workplaces are equitable, diverse, and inclusive; and the well-being of workers is a priority in business practices. A high point of each Convention is our Annual Gala, which amplifies NELA’s voice in DC and builds our influence everywhere we can make a difference for workers. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the more than 230 Gala sponsors who have contributed nearly $265,000 to further our Amicus, Judicial Nominations, and Legislative & Public Policy Programs. NELA had the privilege this year of honoring three members for their inspiring contributions to our community: Janice Goodman (NY), one of NELA’s leading lights and a pioneer in the field of plaintiffs’ employment law, has had an impressive and storied career successfully litigating many important Title VII class actions on behalf of women and minorities. Her contributions are immeasurable, from serving as general editor of NELA’s three-volume treatise, Employee Rights Litigation: Pleading and Practice, to leadership roles as a NELA board member, vice president, and founding member of NELA/ New York. Megan O’Malley (IL) is recognized for her powerful leadership as Co-Chair of NELA’s Judicial Nominations Committee since 2014. As one of our staunchest advocates for a fair and independent judiciary, Megan has led our charge for experiential and demographic diversity on the federal bench for many years. Kira Fonteneau (AL) received NELA’s inaugural Spotlight Award recognizing inspiring leadership and commitment to justice for workers. She serves on the NELA-Alabama Board and was on the faculty of NELA’s Race And National Origin Discrimination In The Workplace seminar. She is the President of the Alabama Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union and serves on the Alabama State Bar Board of Bar Commissioners. We salute the entire NELA community of workers’ rights attorneys for another incredible year of strong advocacy for workers. We are proud to stand alongside you in the pursuit of justice. The Board & Staff of the National Employment Lawyers Association 3

AARP Foundation and NELA Together in Defending Workers’ Rights

Over its 60-year history, AARP Foundation has helped millions of low-income older workers earn a living through its job training, development, and placement programs, such as the Senior Community Service Employment Program, Back to Work 50+, and Work for Yourself@50+. We complement that work with vigorous legal advocacy through our litigating arm, AARP Foundation Litigation (AFL), which advocates on behalf of older workers for systemic change in federal and state courts across the nation.

AARP Foundation is proud to have Dara Smith on NELA’s Board of Directors and Laurie McCann as NELA’s Age Discrimination Practice Group Chair. We look forward to working together with NELA and its members to level the playing field for workers in the years to come.

In Memory of Douglas B. Huron Correia & Puth honors Doug Huron, a visionary advocate for the rights of employees who leveled the playing field for women and people of color. Doug won recognition of stereotyping as sex discrimination for Ann Hopkins at the U.S. Supreme Court and Vernell Sullivan at the DC Court of Appeals, a case that established perhaps the most expansive reading of actionable retaliation anywhere. Doug’s written and oral advocacy were unmatched, powerful, and incisive. He was also a great and thoughtful friend. We offer thanks for Doug, and sorrow for his passing, to his wife, Amy Wind, his children, and his partners at Heller Huron Chertkof and Salzman.

Correia & Puth represents employees in litigation involving discrimination and retaliation under federal and state law. We also represent sexual assault survivors and coaches and educators confronting retaliation in violation of Title IX, and transgender clients experiencing discrimination in health care and other settings.
