2. LINES They are the second element of art. Look around you. Look at the edge of objects. You are looking at lines. Lines are used all the time by artists to make shapes and symbols, or by writers to form letters and words. Lines are usually the first marks in a composition. There are many different: Thick and powerful, fine and delicate, zigzagged, etc., lines are unique. Each one has a specific look and the capacity to express emotion or describe form.
