In this medal filled summer why not aim for your own medal by joining a computing course in September? Good computer skills are now more important than ever, with computers now part of everyday life, be it job-hunting, socialising online or spending your money wisely. Learning in the company of others is much more fun than “doing it yourself” at home. We provide the computers, the teachers and the right atmosphere for you to set out on your own journey to that elusive gold medal. Just bring your determination to succeed and you will be on the right track.
What’s your goal? Set your target – go for gold! 4
You can be a complete novice, never having touched a computer or laptop before and wanting to know just how to get started, or someone already using computers but wanting to achieve qualifications in the typical workplace. We can offer you courses at a range of levels and with the option of progression from novice to a Full Level 3 Certificate.
“This course is excell ent”
You will develop your skills under the guidance of our experienced teachers, well skilled in supporting you as you learn the effective use of computers in a wide range of situations. Enjoy the experience and benefits of learning alongside a new group of friends. Learning in this way not only develops your computer skills but builds your own self-confidence. In a friendly environment, learning becomes an enjoyable activity and you will progress so much more quickly. Courses typically last from about five weeks to 48 weeks depending on course content and level.
All our main courses are now supported with online resources that assist you to extend your learning beyond the classroom sessions by giving you 24/7 access to course materials and discussion forums where you can pose questions and share the learning experience with your class peers. This also gives you a link to the course teacher so you don’t have to wait a week to get an answer to problems you hit between classes.

Progression to Level 1 and above Having achieved an Entry Level qualification, your option is to advance to the Level 1 course for which we offer ECDL Essentials. For Level 1 and above testing is a bit more formal and generally requires you to work without notes or handouts. Your teacher will discuss with you when you are ready to sit the tests so you can progress at your own pace within the hours available. ECDL Essentials Level 1 To help with the move into the more formal testing in ECDL, you will start with a six week “Preparing for ECDL” which are held at the same times as the full ECDL courses so there is no problem in switching days or times. Subject to agreement between you and your teacher you will then move into the formal course which lasts up to 65 hours. The “Preparing for…” course gives you a flying start to the formal course. Your progress can also be much faster if you choose to work using the online resources between class sessions. There are no set dates for testing as it is down to when you are ready. There are three units to be completed to gain the qualification. Details are on our website www.nelcls.ac.uk

Photo Editing Intro Award
These 10 week courses using Photoshop Elements were very popular last season and classes filled VERY quickly - so don’t delay or you may miss out! Courses are run at three levels, beginner, improver and introductory award. All the courses are based on Photoshop Elements software. In beginners you will become familiar with the basic tools of photo editing, applying them to a set of images which we provide. You will also have the opportunity to practice on some of your own images. The improvers’ course develops those skills further and offers the chance to be more creative in using multiple images and text. The introductory award extends that and works to an Entry Level 3 qualification. Details are on our website www.nelcls.ac.uk The courses in the table below are £25.* Course Picture Editing - Introductory Award Picture Editing - Improvers Picture Editing - Beginners Picture Editing - Beginners
