Summer Camp Sun Protection Tips
Dressing Smart for the Sun
Dressing for the heat is actually less straightforward than you might think.
Tank tops and shorts?
In reality these can increase the damage from the sun's rays.
Wearing short clothing causes the sun to immediately evaporate the sweat on our skin.
The result is that we cool more slowly.
Sweat that pools in areas like our face can cause the sun's rays to magnify
intensifying a sunburn.
Ideally, your kids should be wearing hats whenever possible during the day‌
and light, long sleeved shirts.
Heat Exhaustion and Sunburn
Kids should know the signs and how to treat sunburn and heat exhaustion.
Heat exhaustion is very dangerous, and should be treated as such.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion may develop suddenly, or over time, especially with prolonged periods of exercise.
Possible heat exhaustion symptoms include: • Cool, moist skin with goose bumps when in the heat • Heavy sweating • Faintness • Dizziness
Possible heat exhaustion symptoms include: • Fatigue • Weak, rapid pulse • Low blood pressure upon standing • Muscle cramps
Possible heat exhaustion symptoms include: • Nausea • Headache
It should be immediately treated by getting the person indoors and giving them cool, but not ice cold, water.
Take an hour to teach them these important sun tips‌
and they will be free from time lost due to sunburn or heat exhaustion.
