Brethren, As you all well know February is George Washington Observance Month. We will be highlighting some of his exploits and celebrating one of our most cherished Brothers throughout the month. Beginning with this: On August 4, 1753, 21-year-old Virginian George Washington was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Washington, who belonged to Alexandria Lodge No. 22, had been initiated into the Masons at age 20 on November 4, 1752. The following year, on March 3, 1753, he passed as a "Fellow Craft." Five months later, Washington was raised to the rank of Master Mason.

Continued From Last Month-Bylaws Articles IV through VI

GRAND LODGE CODE N RESPECT TO BYLAWS ARTICLE IV Initiation and Membership SECTION I. All Petitions for initiation or affiliation must be signed by the petitioner and be recommended by two members of this Lodge. Every such petition shall be referred to a committee of three, whose duty it shall be to report thereon at the next Stated Communication, unless further time be granted by the Worshipful Master, when the applicant may be balloted for and received or rejected. SECTION II. If the applicant, elected to receive the Degrees in this Lodge, does not come forward to be initiated within three months thereafter, the fee shall be forfeited, unless the Lodge shall otherwise direct. SECTION III. Every person raised to the Degree of Master Mason in this Lodge or elected to be a member thereof, shall sign its bylaws. ARTICLE V Duties of the Treasurer SECTION I. The Treasurer shall receive all monies from the Secretary, and deposit same in the bank designated by the Lodge within seventy-two hours, shall keep an accurate and just account thereof and shall pay the same out only upon an order signed by the Master and countersigned by the Secretary. He shall at the Stated Communication in June and December of each year submit a report in full of the monetary transactions of the Lodge. The Lodge may also at any time when considered necessary cause him to present an account of the receipts and disbursements and of the amount of fund on hand. SECTION II. He shall execute a good and sufficient bond to the Master for the faithful performance of his duties.

In Memory of our dear friend and Brother Most Worshipful Dan I. Newman, and by order of the Grand Lodge of Nevada the Nellis Altar will be draped in his memory throughout the month of February.

ARTICLE VI Duties of the Secretary SECTION I. The Secretary shall keep a faithful record of all the proceedings to be written; shall transmit a copy of the same to the Grand Lodge when requested; shall keep a separate account for each member of the Lodge; shall report at the Stated Communication in June and December of each year the amount of money due by each; at the same time making a report in writing of all money received by the Lodge from all sources whatsoever and paid over to the Treasurer; shall receive all monies due the Lodge from any source whatsoever, keeping a detailed account thereof, and pay the same to the Treasurer within seventy-two hours and secure a receipt therefor from the Treasurer; and shall perform such other duties as may properly pertain to his office. SECTION II. The Secretary shall receive compensation for his services as the Lodge may direct. "Amended 1980 & Apri/2, 2013" SECTION III. He shall execute a good and sufficient bond to the Master for the faithful performance of his duties.

Section 4.260 Bylaws.

1. Each Lodge shall transmit to the Grand Secretary a copy of its bylaws as soon as adopted. 2. No such bylaws nor any subsequent amendment thereof are valid until approved by the Grand Lodge, though they may be acted under until the next Annual Communication if approved by the Grand Master. 3. The bylaws of each constituent Lodge must state the hour and the day for its stated communication.

4. A copy of the bylaws, printed, mimeographed or otherwise reproduced, shall be given to: (a) Each Master Mason at the time he signs the official bylaws of the Lodge. (b) Each Master Mason elected to membership by affiliation.

5. An amendment of a bylaw is not effective unless all members of a Lodge have been duly notified of such proposed bylaw amendment prior to the stated communication at which the ballot on the change is conducted. Publishing the proposed bylaw amendment in the trestleboard of the Lodge, mailed to each member, or a timely notice sent through the United States Postal Service, to each Lodge member, shall constitute proper notice. An arhendment of a bylaw is not effective until all members of the Lodge are duly notified of its adoption by trestleboard or United States mail as specified herein. As used in this subsection, "amendment" includes: (a) Changing an existing bylaw. (b) Addition of a new bylaw. (c) Repeal of an existing bylaw. (Amended 1978) (Dec. No. 45, 119, 129, 130, 167, 178,208,237,256,260,274,304, 314)
