Stated Meeting first Tuesday of the Month at 7:00 pm at the Masonic Memorial Temple 2200 West Mesquite Ave. (Rancho & US-95) Las Vegas, Nevada 89106 www.nellislodge46.org secretary@nellislodge46.org
The first part of the year is winding down but there’s still more to do. On June 3 at our stated Meeting we will be voting on the proposed Bylaw amendment to raise our initiation fees. Then, on June 10 is our annual Table Lodge. This year we are selling tickets for the event ahead of time at a reduced rate. These advance tickets are $15, but if you wait and pay at the door it will cost you $20. The firing cannons this year are unique and I’m sure will become a collector’s item. They will be the same type of glass as last year but the inscriptions will be etched into the glass! We’ve been so busy this year I’m afraid we will have to stay open on June 17. We have some Fellowcraft work to complete. Tickets are on sale for Nellis’ Baseball Night at the 51’s, on June 19 and then again on August 23. The June 19 game is $1.00 beer night and the August 23 game is free jersey night for the first 2500 people. As in the past, each ticket holder will receive a 51’s baseball cap. This has always been a great event not only for the Brethren but for the whole family. If you need any information or have questions, please let me know. Don’t forget the fireworks booth—June 28 through July 4th. If you want to help, contact Miguel me and we can get you a time. Also, don’t forget to buy your fireworks from Nellis! I would like to wish a Happy Birthday to all my brothers who are celebrating their birthday in June, July and August. Have a great summer see you September 2 for our stated meeting. Upon the square Harold Scalzo Jr. Worshipful Master

Brethren, As our Summer vacation approaches for our Lodge to go dark, our calendar is still full of events! Just because we are not going to be attending Lodge, does not mean our fellowship has to stop. One of our biggest fundraisers for the year (the fireworks booth) is a great time for a few things to happen. Helping your lodge earn money for the following year is truly needed and very important... But even more so, all of the great fellowship and brotherly love that is had while working the booth! We also have the 2 baseball nights for the 51's Games on the 19th of June and the 23rd of August! Tickets are available from any of the 3 Principal Officers. I hope everyone will be able to attend the games and help out as much as there Cable-tow will allow at the Fireworks booth.
The seven Liberal Arts are pivotal to the Fraternity. They are grammar, logic, rhetoric, arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy. Rhetoric is the art of persuasion, informing and motivation through the use of discourse. In our fraternity we make prudent and judicious use of one particular rhetorical device for informing and teaching. That device is allegory. Allegory is the use of symbolism to inculcate concepts and ideas. Allegory demonstrates vast power in communicating thoughts and ideas that may be complex but are more easily understood by the use of inherently perceived symbols. Simply put allegory teaches one thing through the use of another. For instance the fraternity teaches wisdom, strength and beauty through the allegory of columns. The Corinthian column is beautiful to behold, the Doric column is the essence of strength and the Ionic illustrates wisdom. One of the advantages of allegory, if done thoroughly, is its potential to continue to provide deeper and/or multiple meanings as the person studying becomes better acquainted with its ideas. I find myself continually awed by our fraternity not just by the sheer volume of symbols we use but the ever deeper meanings they possess and teach as I apply my mind in the pursuit of the lessons they espouse. Each time a lecture is given during the degrees is an opportunity for each Brother to further their understanding of the allegories as our Ancient Brethren have done who have gone this way before us.
Fraternally, Bro. Miguel
