June is here! It seems the older I get the faster time goes by - a lesson that is hard sometimes to take. However, there is value in it, such as learning not to sweat the small stuff and to appreciate the moment, for they go by so quickly and there are not as many left. Some may fall into to despair, but really it is the circle of life. It's not morbid or even sad really - in fact it's mother nature from the beginning of time. I know it seems strange that I'm talking about mortality when wonderful summer is upon Scott Keiser us. Except that if we accept that we're mortal Worshipful we suddenly have a different perspective on life Master and this can have a dramatic effect on our personal relationships. For some it's a melancholy, for others a denial of the passage of time, but for those that see the truth its the greatest opportunity to be real and passionate about those things and people that matter most around us and not worry about the rest of it. Masonically, we talk a lot about brotherly love and affection, and the principals that bind us as a sacred band of brothers. But, without understanding that we are passing through time that none of us can escape, we devalue that which the Great Architect of the Universe has given to us. There is that old saying 'take time to stop and smell the roses' and I say before we break for the summer take time to connect with at least one brother before we part. Don't waste what can never be returned. Make that connection with a brother that you really haven't done so with before. I don't know how wise I am; I would like to think that at least while the Master of Nellis that the Great Architect imbues me with some wisdom to guide and aid the lodge in this present year. So please take my humble advice to seek out the personal friendship for the good of yourselves and the good of the Order.
God Bless Scot W.M.

I would like to thank all the Brothers that purchased tickets and donated to the Nellis Masonic Baseball Night with the 51’s. A total of over $300.00 plus was added to our Scholarship Fund. On to our next and largest Fund Raiser of the Year;

The Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Booth. Many aspects of the previous years will remain the same. We will have just one booth, located at Maryland Pkwy and Silverado Ranch. We will be representing Phantom Fireworks and we will be using our own trailer. Special thanks to our JW. Harold Scalzo for bring the booth to town from Pahrump already and to Bro. Allen Ashby for allowing us to store the trailer at his place in town. Sales of Fireworks will commence on Wednesday June 27 th and finish on Wednesday July 4th. You will note; one major difference from the last few years is that the Fourth will be on a Wednesday; this will make scheduling of Volunteers and Sales, a little more challenging since the Fourth falls in the middle of the week and not on a Friday through Monday. If you wish to Volunteer, please call me at (702) 525-4395 or e-mail at jeffbyrne@cox.com. The hours of operation for the booth will be 10am to 10pm or later depending on business volume. We will be trying to work at least two, if not three shifts per day, Morning, Evening and a Lunch or Relief Shift. Please leave a short message on the hours and days that you could work and of course a way to get back in touch with you, phone number or e-mail address. I will be passing a Sign Up Sheet at the Stated Meeting this month.

I wish all my brothers a safe and enjoyable summer. See you in September. Fraternally, Harold Junior Warden

Rainbow Lodge
What a strange place, Elgin Nevada. On a recent visit for the Nellis lodge 46 outdoor meeting at Rainbow Canyon, outside the lodge door, we found a blind man walking in the desert. Fortunately the weather was terrific, or otherwise he might have had a severe stroke. He seemed disoriented, had no money was wearing nothing but some kind of shawl and matching shorts. Now this guy, (let’s call him Mike) was wandering around seemingly clueless… lost, not knowing where he was or what was going on around him. Many of those in our party, by eye contact, agreed there was something strangely familiar about this fellow. The Worshipful Master must have had an opinion on this subject, because in a surprise move he invited Mike into our meeting. We were all amused by this, and assumed Mike fellow, well, to be one of our fellows. This was because when he did finally speak, some of the words were familiar to at least some of us. Lucky for Mike, one of our brother members was able to interpret what he was trying to say, and when we heard what that was, we more convinced that he was one of us. It is somewhat interesting to say that while this guy was allowed to participate in the meeting he really did not speak, unless he was asked a direct question. We still thought he was one of the fellows, but we learned later this was a big foopah! After a while we took a break and someone found this poor fellow some clothes. All we had for him were some items previously used by one of our lodge members; I think it was the Junior Warden. Maybe it was because of the shock hearing the WM’s voice, or something else that may have lit him up, but Mike reacted startlingly and all at once his eyes were able to respond to the light and then when it went on a little further, his blindness miraculously went away. Well, I’ll tell you, it must have been a really strange feeling for Mike, seeing us all for the first time, there in this remote place all dressed up in cowboy hats. As I said previously, we all assumed this Mike fellow to be one of our brothers. Now since he was doing so much better than before, and his speech was so much clearer, we were not opposed to having him again to sit in our meeting. Of course, this was mainly because we were having such a good time, we had also not yet had lunch yet, and we were not about to go home before the meeting was over.
8
At this late hour the Worshipful Master must have sensed something was wrong because the WM asked him a question, one he should have known the answer to, but he could not or would not give an answer. What an insult, after inviting him into our meeting, this guy would say anything, not even to give the WM the time of day! Now it was late and the WM seemed to be pretty upset and he really bit into this Mike fellow. Now I digress, we were having a great meeting but we would not have had the meeting if PM Jerry McCorkle had not brought the lodge door with him. It seems the Rainbow Canyon lodge did not have one. Someone should take care of this next time‌ it will probably be Jerry. Personally think this place, Elgin must be haunted because after lodge meeting was over, there were some frightening occurrences. Although I thought it to be a mistake, because of the dangerous animals around the camp (Wild Dogs), some of the group brought children and later I personally observed them dancing around a large fire and emitting blood curdling laughter. All the while their parents and the rest of those in attendance simply watched and did absolutely nothing to stop it, it was very strange, spooky and well, kind of fun. Ah, I forgot to mention, Mike turned out to be alright after all. As Harold tells it, Mike had bumped his head on something and after a little rest he was fine. Also, as it turns out, Mike really is a Master Mason and the Worshipful Master is not really angry at him. This is probably also true because it was obvious that Mike took to heart some of the lecture that PM Coco gave him after Coco heard what had gone on between the Worshipful Master and Mike after the break. You should have heard the lecture! Wow that Coco guy can really lay it on! And all the time, Mike did not say a word, he just sat there and took it all in. It seems that Mike has turned out to be a real stand up fellow after all. I was really proud of him. Now I am sorry to relate this strange story to you and hope you are not confused or frightened by it, but as a word of caution for those of you who could not make it, you can just thank your stars because the same thing could have happened to you had you been there. I for one cannot wait to get back to our regular Tuesday lodge meeting.

Upon a Mountain of Work This is not going to be guilt ridden story about how you should get up from the couch and get to work. This is really about what it takes to make our craft operate, who does it, why and how the work actually gets done. First we would have to agree that what we do has value. To prove this point we should probably compare what sacrifices are being made for the benefit of others by certain individuals in the lodge. The following is probably not going to be news to the Past Masters, because their participation in both numbers and per event, for the past several years has vastly overshadowed participation from the general population. Whenever there is a part to be filled there has always been a PM ready to help. There is no doubt in my mind that this will trend continue. This feature alone shows the dedication of our PMs and also shows what we need to do to strengthen our body. Other work is for the most part, is accomplished by volunteers from the general population. This begs the question; what is it that makes us do what we do? It must be that we see some virtue or some improvement in our lives or the lives of others. We would probably agree that it is totally beneficial for one person to help another. The person being helped is in a better condition because of the help received and the benefactor can be sublimely satisfied that he has accomplished something of great moral value. Each of us should, however, decide for ourselves, if it is it the satisfaction one gets for helping others which will prevail as the main reason for participation, or if it is the personal satisfaction one gets when he is given a promotion in position or an official title? I think we will agree on the answer. In our work it becomes necessary to advance in an official sense and when possible. For several good reasons there must be a progression and graduation of our lodge officers. Think of what would happen on degree night, if there were only one or two past masters to help out. As would be expected, at each advance the responsibilities of the respective office increases. There are some functional challenges for each degree meeting. We give one officer the duty of arranging the people who will participate in advance. If you have ever tried to do something like this you should understand that it is time consuming and sometimes difficult to obtain commitment from one person and more difficult for many persons.. Someone shows up on lodge night, early and prepares food. This person probably had to go shopping to buy the food and probably has to set up, tear down, clean up, wash down and resolve the bill.
18
Someone has to put the regalia out before lodge and pick it up after. We would all agree that our secretary and treasurer are completely weighted with the challenges of running the lodge finances and operational needs. The building committee participants must keep up with the wear and tear to the facility and be motivated to care for our future needs. Someone is keeping track of all of the brothers who help in clearing investigations, new initiates and advance’s as they progress. This, done properly results in a smooth transition from one degree to the next and reduces the potential for frustration an advancing brother may feel when he believes his efforts being ignored. Done at all, this requires a lot of time and effort. We have some, most devoted brothers, who will visit and attend to our aging and infirm brothers when they are not well, or in need. You all know who they are. We have a select group of dedicates who will attend the last rites of fallen brothers to make sure that the family of these honorable souls are not forgotten. To Orchestrate all of this, our Worshipful Master gives out assignments. Now this sounds quite simple, but let’s keep in mind that when degree work is not done well, the WM feels it the most. The pangs of responsibility are sharp. Especially when one realizes that failures in the lodge room are looked at as failures of the main office of the lodge. After looking at this partial list of functional issues, how can we then calculate the value or what effort it takes to do our work or does it matter? I would suggest that what really matters is what the rest of us can give to those who will do all of this work, and that would be thanks. On behalf of those brothers who for one reason or another cannot help as much they would like to. I would like to say thanks. Thank you my brothers, you know who you are, certainly the rest of us know. Thank you for picking up the slack. Thank you for looking out for us. Thank you for your goodness, your ethics, your energy, your honesty and your devotion to others.
