In Europe around the end of October beginning of November, the ancients believed that the vale between the after life and this one was at the thinnest. They used this time to give thanks too and recognize the wisdom of their ancestors. Later the Church adopted this day to honor the saints and Halloween was born. Masonry has always give honor to those that have come before. Masonry and its history mean many things to many different brothers, regardless of our own personal beliefs or opinions we can agree that there has been a great many men, that have called themselves brother. Among them the writers of the the Declaration of Independence (at least on that committee) and the document that saw that Declaration to fruition, the Constitution of the United States.
Scott Keiser Worshipful Master 2012
I know, it reads like I'm rambling. What's the connection? To be consciously aware of what we owe to those that came before us!. To actively give honor to those that came before us. And to actively make our words a reality. We can do this together but we should also do this individually. By acknowledging and recognizing the sacrifices those men made can again make what they have done - sacred. So, let us use this month honor our ancestors and re-affirm their sacrifices.
God Bless Scott W.M.

Brothers, The 50th Anniversary of Nellis 46 is just on the horizon, there will be several special events scheduled for next year. Please help us to stay in contact with you, I have been reviewing the lodge roster and have seen several instances were addresses are wrong, phone numbers are missing Senior Warden and there was no e-mail address a for a Brother. W. Bro. Jeff Byrne, P.M. This information being correct is vital to our ability to reach you; we do not want anyone to miss any of the excitement of our 50th year because we could not reach them. Also we will be trying to send the Trestle Board to all of the members via e-mail. Sending the Trestle Board by e-mail will save the Lodge a tremendous amount of money by not having to use paper, print or buy postage. Please send an e-mail with your present address and phone number to W Bro Jim at secretary@nellislodge46.org so we can update your contact info. I would like to take a moment to say how proud I am of several of the newly made Master Masons as they are starting to give back what they have learned by participating in Openings, Closings and Degrees. A job well done to; “Michael Ritano, Jason Cunningham and Michael Griffin” for their hard work. Please remember that anyone may participate in degree work, you just need to have the willingness to learn a part. We still have Practice on Monday Nights for anyone who needs help with a part or wants to “Tune Up” their floor work. Fraternally, Jeff 6
I consider myself to be a more competent, confident and capable man than I used to be, and I credit a great deal of that to our Masonic Customs. What Freemasonry in general and Masonic Customs in particular has done for me, and for countless others, is to make it possible for us to step out of our comfort zone in an environment of support and encouragement. And by doing so it enables us to become more the man we want to be. So, are our customs relevant in today’s society? Do they have social applicability? I don’t think there has ever been a time when they were more Junior Warden relevant than they are today. Harold Scalzo, Jr. Funny thing about relevance, though. Its part of the big picture, the grand scheme, and often times we don’t recognize something as being relevant to us as an individual until we have gained the perspective of looking back on it across time. For instance, way back when I first became a Mason had the Brethren come to me and said, “If you do this it will help you to overcome your fear of public speaking.” “This is the way it was done by generations past. We strongly encourage you to do it this way, and this is how we can help you to do it.” And then I said, “I can do that.” That’s one beauty of Masonry. It gives us the tools we need, sometimes without our even knowing we need them, to become more than we are. Our customs are tools just like the many other tools we have in Masonry for teaching, learning, and understanding ourselves and our fellowman. By The Plumb Fraternally, Harold Junior Warden
