Volunteers clean up coast line A big community effort has cleared 7.5 tonnes of rubbish from Tasman Bay beaches. Around 540 people took part in the second annual Tasman Bay Big Beach Clean-up held on Saturday. They collected rubbish from 295 kilometres of coast from Abel Tasman National Park to Cable Bay, including an old catamaran. Nelson Weekly paddled out to Haulashore Island in one of five Waka ama, as 16 members of the Maitahi
Outrigger Canoe Club spent about an hour picking up a mixture of bottles, plastic rubbish, old clothing and a car tyre. Returning to the Island for the second consecutive year, the club members were delighted to find the Island comparatively trash-free. “We found much less rubbish on the Island this year compared to last year’s litter pick,” says Pete Bywater, club president. That trend was echoed in the over-
all figures around the rest of Tasman Bay. “Beach-cleaning volunteers found less rubbish than last year, when 10.4 tonnes was collected, but still found plenty of litter on coast alongside main roads,” says Rudy Tetteroo the Department of Conservation community relations programme manager. The organisers say they had a fantastic response from the community

“It’s important that we have a multi-cultural society and that Maori people are represented on the council.”
“I’m not really in to politics but I can’t see it being a problem myself.”

again this year and the public were enthusiastically involved in the spring coastal clean-up. “It’s great to see so many people caring for our beautiful beaches,” says Rudy. Back on Haulashore Island, Pete noted that it is really important to look after what you use so it’s able to be enjoyed in years to come. “Haulashore Island is always a focal point for us when we are on the water, so it’s only right that as a club we do our bit,” he says. It is the most appropriate time of year to run the community-focused clean as cleaner beaches will make them more enjoyable for the thousands of locals and holidaymakers who will be making the most of sand, sea and sun this summer. Rubbish removed included plastic, bottles, bits of glass, old tyres, plastic bale wrap and the old catamaran. DOC thanks NELMAC Ltd for their help with traffic management plans for coastal sections.

Councillor hits out Nelson City Councillor Ian Barker has blasted his colleagues for voting to establish a separate Maori seat on council while he was away in Japan. Ian says he only knew about the contents of the meeting a couple of days prior, after it was left out of the original agenda. He was in Japan on a fact finding exercise into local government at the time. He says the move is undemocratic, and is promising to fight it. “I was disappointed and concerned when the council voted to set up a Maori ward when I was absent. The vote most certainly would not have been unanimous had I been present,” he said in a statement to Nelson Weekly. A petition circulating against the creation of a Maori ward only needs 1700 signatures to send the issue to a referendum, something that mayor Aldo Miccio is resigned to. “Central government has given councils the power to make the deci-
sion but set a really low threshold for a petition. If we said no to it, we would have to wait five years before we could look at it again. Because we said yes we put it in the hands of the people, if they didn’t like it a petition would easily get enough signatures and we would have a poll. Which it looks like will happen.” But Ian says he warned his fellow councillors against establishing the seat. “The day before the meeting in a face-to-face meeting, I warned the mayor and all councillors, except one who wasn’t present, that it would be a huge mistake to make such a decision based on a late report and on a recommendation that had not been consulted upon. My unheeded warnings of the likely outcomes have, it seems, been exactly as I predicted. There has obviously been a major back-lash from the community.” It is understood as of last night the petition had 600 signatures.

Eight year world mission complete Nelson’s Mark “Hap” Cameron works on every continent before 30th birthday Standing on the top of Africa’s highest peak last week, Mark “Hap” Cameron sucked in a big breath and smiled, it was over, he had worked the world. Nelson man Hap Cameron started his working the world quest in 2003. The goal was to work on every continent before his 30th birthday (on 11/11/11). Along the way Hap’s highlights include earning a black belt in Korea, tutoring a millionaire’s son in Spain, relying on a soup kitchen while homeless in Canada, watching Michael Campbell win the US Golf Open from a nearby tree in the United States, working at an orphanage in South America, in the mines in Western Australia, as a waiter on a five star cruise ship at Antarctica and, of course, being deported from the US. At the start of this year only one continent remained, Africa. Planning the final leg of his journey took Hap some months, he wanted a big bang to end it all. Cycling across Africa to meet a shipping container of disused Australia bikes and then setting up a bike shop not only gave him meaningful work in Africa, but gave him a big project to finish on top. Not big enough though. Hap wanted more and came up with the idea of scaling one of the world’s tallest mountains, Mt Kilimanjaro, and being on top of it on the day of his 30th birthday. Last Friday it was mission complete. Hap jokes he has few possessions but a
lifetime of memories and now the nomadic former Waimea College head boy will compile those memories for a book that is due for release next year, the rights have already been picked up by Australasia’s largest independent publisher and he is planning on returning home to Nelson this summer to get started on it. A documentary, following his journey in Africa, has also been filmed with editing to take place this summer. On Hap’s popular blog he wrote of his climb: “My god it was bloody tough. It was my first birthday where I haven’t had a beer and have been in bed before 7pm,” he joked. Finishing the eight-year mission is hard to contemplate says Hap. “It’s hard to believe that nearly a decade ago when I first started thinking about travelling the world, and then when I committed to this goal in early 2003, that I would be standing on Mt Kilimanjaro at age 30 having completed it. “Wow, 2003 seems like such a long time ago. Well I suppose it was. When I stepped onto that plane bound for Korea on April 7, 2003 I had never owned a cell phone and Facebook was just an idea floating around in some soon to be very rich pimply faced teenagers mind.” Hap says he is looking foward to getting back to Nelson, via Melbourne, and start writing his book, which is due to hit stores this time next year.

NEWS IN BRIEF BACK ON THE BEAT: Nelson’s Street Ambassadors are back on the late night streets spreading safety messages. The team in their distinctive orange vests will be on duty each weekend from 9.30pm till 4am as the summer party season warms up. Nelson City Council’s safe city adviser Ingrid Beach says Nelson City Council has been involved in delivering the service since 2004. “Our Street Ambassadors now have a very good rapport with the young people who are out partying over summer. Because of that, young people know there are people they can talk to if they are in need of help or advice throughout the night.” Feedback about the Street Ambassador service is that it plays an important role in reducing trouble on the streets over summer and keeping Nelson a safe place for everyone to enjoy. TOY RUN: It will soon be a sea of sound and colour on Nelson streets, as hundreds of motorcyclists take to the roads of Nelson on Saturday 3 December for the annual Ulysses Nelson Toy Run. Celebrating its 26th year of collection, motorcyclists from all over the top of the south and the West Coast are being asked to decorate themselves and their machines. The event consistently attracts motorbikes and scooters of all sizes decorated and adorned with various gifts for distribution to the region’s children by the local branch of the Salvation Army. For further information contact: Lorraine Lindsay on 545 1214. GRADUATE EXHIBITION: NMIT’s graduate show, BAM, is being held from this Saturday at the brand new NMIT Arts and Media building on Nile St. The exhibition runs for just three days and is open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday with a late night on Monday, open until 8pm. Artists floor talks on Saturday and Monday 2pm.

Social events on my calendar tend to be taken up with barbeques at friends’ houses, a trip to the movies or someone’s birthday. Every summer you can throw in a wedding or two in the mix and that’s about the only time I have the need for anything dressier than a pair of jeans and reasonably clean t-shirt. But last week, for the first time since I attended a high school ball, I was forced to rent a tux, have a clean shave and look somewhat respectable as we headed along to the black tie only Westpac Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

New quiz offers free beer Quiz nights are seeing a sudden surge in popularity around New Zealand and the reason is Nothing Trivial. The New Zealand-made television drama which just finished its first season is being credited with drawing more people to existing quiz nights and prompting some new ones to start. Including another in Nelson which kicks off this Wednesday night at the Nelson Hotel [formerly the Royal]. Nelson already has several successful quizzes running in Stoke, Tahunanui and Nelson that have seen a surge in demand since the start of the television show. But the new quiz aims to drag more people into the quiz night fun and is even offering teams free beer. In a special offer to Nelson Weekly readers, if you clip out the coupon at the bottom of this page you will get a free jug of Stoke beer - one per team of five or more people. “Nothing Trivial had quite a big effect in terms of it’s normalised it – we’re definitely seeing an in-

The newest quiz night in Nelson is at the Nelson Hotel which also runs the Believe it or not Quiz format. The quiz master is Classic Hits radio host Becky Morgan. Becky discovered quizzes after filling in for Murray Leaning at the Suburban Club and had such a good time that when the hosting for the Nelson Hotel came up she jumped at the chance. The Hotel was packed for the sports quiz they held for the South Island Masters Games. Nelson Hotel manager Sarah Edgley says the newly refurbished Nelson Hotel is “the perfect venue for a quiz night as there was lots of comfy couches, sifty areas for those who wanted a more intimate evening, lots of table settings and more brightly lit areas for those need to resort to reading glasses,” says Sarah.

Perfect weather finally shone over the A&P Show for the first time in a number of years. Show organisers are estimating a crowd of 12,000, which was similar to the past years. Although a final total will be calculated in the coming weeks. The animal nursery alongside a children’s area was the biggest highlight, says manager Liz Harvey. The amount of festival rides was down from past years but New Zealand pop/rock band Hello Sailor were a welcome addition. The New Zealand sheep racing team, the Baa Blacks, made the trip south after being involved in Rugby World Cup festival activities. The crowd was “certainly bigger on the Saturday,” says Liz. She says the weather was the best she had seen on show day in the four years she had been involved.

The Harbour Master’s
diary
• Six container ships, a tug from Taranaki, the regular cement ship, the big car carrier, 15 big fishing vessel movements along with several smaller ones, and a large fertiliser vessel rounded off a busy week for the port. • It was good to see a successful Search and Rescue exercise being conducted by the Police, Coastguard, Surf Rescue, and the Harbour Master’s staff. Many thanks to all those that took part in the trying conditions. Thanks also to the Talisman Cadet unit volunteers that came along as look outs. Your assistance was greatly appreciated. • It was business as usual for the various codes around the port. It is always good to see several different sports cooperating and enjoying the harbour resource. • Beware the wind against the tide phenomena. Waves are normally steeper and bigger in these conditions and many small boats can be caught unawares. Such conditions on Thursday night provided a challenge to the 150 odd swimmers who took part in the opening night of the summer sea swim series.

The world’s first purpose-built steep-slope logging harvester has already attracted international interest says its local manufacturer. The second prototype of the harvester built by Trinder Engineers was unveiled last week and is expected to extend the boundaries of traditional logging methods, providing a safer and more productive system for logging contractors and forest owners. The excavator-based harvester is the brainchild of Nigel Kelly of Kelly Logging. Nigel was concerned about the industries poor safety record when manually felling and recovering trees on steep slopes. Nigel worked closely with Trinder Engineers’ managing director Kerry Hill, and projects manager Mark Lindbom to develop an alternative mechanised system, and over the past four years they have built two prototype machines, the latest given public viewing last week. Previously, excavator-based felling machines and harvesters have been restricted to about 22 degree slopes. The latest prototype can operate on slopes up to 50 degrees, double the former limit, due to a unique winch system which assists traction when the machine climbs steep slopes. The harvester weighs 43 tonnes. It has a felling head attachment which allows the operator to cut down trees and stack them for extraction by cable or alternate ground based systems, doing the work of three men but in much safer conditions. “Volume and value recovery are also greatly improved using this system. Over the next 10-15 years there’s going to be more logging on steep country and we’ve now developed a system to harvest these trees, and safer too,” says Kerry. The first prototype was built in 2008 and
has clocked up over 4,700 hours of work. With the knowledge gained, a number of improvements were designed into the second prototype. The second prototype is now ready to be tested, and Kerry is confident that it could be just months before a commercial model is available. “Prototype one, from 20 metres looks like a normal excavator, but with this new one everybody can see it’s something quite different. “This is the largest development project we’ve been involved with. This is a world first. There’s nothing in the world like it.” Kerry says there will always be forestry too steep for machinery, but this is a huge step in the right direction. Kerry believes right now it would take five months to build another steep slope harvester, however they will not go to market until all testing is complete. Trinder’s has the capability to ramp up operations to meet future demand. Already a number of forest contractors have expressed great interest in the new harvester.

Who do you want to represent Nelson? With the general election just four days away we asked Nelson candidates for the two major parties why they should get your vote What in your mind is the biggest issue facing Nelson over the next 3 to 5 years? Maryan Street: Economic growth – equitably distributed. This region needs to step up a notch and develop more value-added products out of the fine primary produce for which we are famous already. This requires research and development and access to investment capital. Labour has a clear plan to deliver that to business, from reinstating an R&D tax credit, to building our savings and refocusing investment through a capital gains tax so that our clever producers can develop new products. This will mean more jobs, better jobs, more highly skilled workers and better pay. That will assist people with their housing costs because it is the combination of low wages and high house costs which will continue to stifle growth in Nelson if nothing changes. In turn, this will mean more money in circulation to support retailers and small businesses which make Nel-
son the diverse community it is. Nick Smith: The biggest issue for Nelson is the economy – jobs, keeping the cost of living under control, exports, and debt. National’s 120-point plan of balancing the books sooner, growing exports, investing in infrastructure, ensuring public services are efficient, ensuring skills training is relevant, and reducing red tape is the best hope for Nelson and New Zealand in these tough economic times. It is initiatives like expanding King Salmon and the Lee Valley Community Dam that will grow Nelson exports and create real wealth. What’s been the highlight of the election campaign for you? NS: My campaign highlight was our launch at Tahunanui Beach with Prime Minister John Key. So many Nelson families came out and the Prime Minister was in great form. It was warm, friendly and Nelson at its best. MS: The unexpected presentation to me at my campaign launch of a korowai (cloak) as a sign of respect from Labour supporters. What’s been the low point of the campaign so far? NS: The dirty tricks. The painting from artist Sam Mahon in Canterbury of an assassinated John Key was just crass, the deliberate and planned vandalism of National’s billboards by the Greens, and the taping of John Key’s private conversations. I think the media did themselves a disservice in demanding the tape be released. MS: Some of the graffiti on hoardings has been offensive. Candidates always say it goes with the territory, but when it gets obscene and personal as it has on occasion this time, it sometimes makes me wonder why I put myself up for this. How do you intend to celebrate if you win Nelson this Saturday? MS: Quietly and thoughtfully. NS: The Nelson National Party will be holding our election night party at HQ for our 200 odd election day volunteers.
It will be a nervous night – I’ve got a feeling it might be a bit like the Rugby World Cup final and a sense of relief rather than a big celebration. What are the top three goals you would like to achieve for Nelson over the next three years? NS: I’ve set out a twelve point plan for the next three years around three themes of: • Growing our exports and creating jobs which includes initiatives like aquaculture, the Lee Valley community dam, ultra-fast broadband and the Cawthron. • Improving our health and education services which includes the new after-hours GP clinic, Nelson teen parent unit, Nelson Trades Academy and the Richmond special needs unit; • Making our community safer and cleaner which includes reducing city violence, cleaning up Stoke’s streams, new cycleway along Rock’s Rd and the earthquake upgrade of the School of Music. MS: More and better paid jobs, lower housing costs, and economic growth and development.

LETTERS
TO THE EDITOR
Contradiction is when another person or group of peoples statements or actions are denied by another group of individuals. This in our usual life is seen as an argument or fight, which we all know, I hope, is very destructive to communities and relationships. Let’s give an example. In the latest Nelson Weekly there was an article advertising a biker group’s poker ride, “Bike club hosts poker run”. If the circumstances were not how they were at the present time I would have no problem with this event, it is just some fun, all good. The problem arises from the countries present situation. There are hundreds and thousands of families in Nelson and around New Zealand that are dysfunctional and abusive because they are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, pornography or gambling. This is not alright. This is why community groups like the Woman’s Refuge, Victory Community Centre and Child Support are working their butts off helping to stop these things from going on. It is going against the vision of a country to be free of poverty when people organise gambling, drinking or sexual events to take place. This has got to stop, or else we, Nelson as a city and New Zealand as a country, will not be able to survive as a community, especially if the financial situation gets any worse. Come on, change your lives around. If you don’t want to do it for yourself, do it for the youth, it’s their future. Mathew Buckingham (aged 17), Toi Toi, Nelson.

else if you are having trouble. Seek help and support. Most of the guys who are going on this poker run are businessman who have fun doing this and do it to relax. They then return to their industries, jobs and families a little more relaxed and focused. If we ban this type of thing Matthew and we can’t “play” who is it that pays the wages, creates and maintains industry and helps pay for the education system that trains all of the social workers and health professionals you talk about? As a community we do need to help each other so why stop us from enjoying ourselves? We don’t pour grog or drugs down anyone’s mouth, or hit random strangers or abuse anyone’s family. As for sexual........? We won’t be changing our lives we enjoy them just the way they are. Keep voicing your opinion Matthew for sure, but understand you may not be spot on all the time. Steve Page, Nelson Weekly Publisher and biker.
I take issue with Nelson mayor Aldo Miccio’s assertions (Nelson Weekly, letters, Nov. 15) about the absence of proper council consultation. The Trafalgar Park upgrade was overwhelmingly opposed by ratepayers and received a record number of submissions. Council simply ignored ratepayer concerns about the huge cost and the subsequent effect on rates. There is no comparison between that “consultation” and Nelson council’s dictatorial arrangements for a Maori Ward seat to replace one of the atlarge council seats. This is a fundamental constitutional change. Only fascist governance would envisage making such a change without public consultation. Council will be challenged for its inept and undemocratic decisions, which have destroyed any chance of amalgamation. Dan McGuire, Nelson.

Nelmac takes out enviro award Contributions to environmental awareness and practice were celebrated at the 2011 Environment Awards on Friday, with Nelmac Nursery taking home the award in the business section. “We live and breathe sustainability in our business,” says Mike Gafa, team leader at the Nursery. Nelmac Nursery have a strong record of sustainability including a major focus on water usage over the past year, managing to reduce the amount of water used while still increasing productivity. Purchase some of the plants at the nursery and you’ll notice all the packaging is either reusable or recyclable. Achieving sustainability requires both attention and innovation, with every contribution building towards the “sustainability culture” of a workplace. “Our staff come up with new ideas on a weekly basis, leading to changes in practice that all help to keep us in business,” says Robert Fryer, Parks
and Reserves manager at Nelmac. The awards celebrated contributions of many sizes from school and community groups to sustainable design and environmental leadership. A total of 59 entries were received this year and their quality provided a “challenge” for the judging panels. “This is a great way for us to celebrate all the creativity, innovation and hard work that is happening in our community. Many of these projects offer some valuable lessons and inspiration for us all,” says co-organiser Karen Lee. Other category winners were: Community Groups – Motueka Arts Council. Heritage sites – Fellworth House. Environmental Leadership – Julie McLintock. Heritage culture – Dramatix Theatre Development Trust. Schools – Mapua School Tane’s Ark. Sustainable Design – Judith Ritchie. Best Use of Renewable Energy – Solar Rosa Home. Rural – Lindy Kelly.

your questions Saving for Christmas
Q: Every year I plan to save for
Christmas, but don’t. I end up putting all my Christmas spending on my credit card and pay if off later instead. Have you got some suggestions for how I can be better prepared? A: Now is the time to start planning and saving for Christmas. Start putting aside money now for this Christmas Talk to your family about present expectations. Set a price limit. You could suggest one person to buy for one other Decide on a total amount to spend on presents, and food. Stick to it. Make presents, grow plants, buy second-hand presents or make vouchers in exchange for your time. Start planning now for next year. Pay weekly installments into a separate untouchable Christmas account at your bank. Buy Christmas food vouchers from your supermarket each week - they are usually worth more when you cash them in. If you join up to a Christmas buying scheme, know what you are getting for your money. It may well be cheaper to save up and buy your own food and presents The Christmas spirit is about people not things. Keep your celebrations simple. Remember your presence is more valuable than presents.

best Under-23 riders in the world and riding with guys like that really made you step up.” On December 3, George will join his new mates at an eight-day training camp in Calpe, Spain, before returning home for Christmas. First on the agenda for 2012 with be the RaboDirect Elite Cycling Nationals in Christchurch. RadioShack Nissan Trek has a service course in Belgium and the team is registered in Luxembourg, although the majority of the training camps are held in Spain. In two year’s time, George is targeting a spot in one of the three grand tours; Tour of Spain or Tour of Italy. “It won’t be the Tour de France, but eventually over five or six years I’d love to be part of the Tour de France. But with the roster that our team has, to get in the Tour de France team you have to be one of the best in the world.”
There was one birthday present that stood above the rest for Nelson’s George Bennett. The newly 21 year-old has signed a two-year professional contract with one of the world’s highest profile cycling teams, RadioShack Nissan Trek. George impressed nine-time Tour de France winning director Johan Bruyneel when he spent part of the year as a stagiare, or apprentice, with the old RadioShack squad. RadioShack Nissan Trek has already signed some of the world’s leading cyclists including Fabian Cancellara and the Schleck brothers, Andy and Frank. George, a former Waimea College student, likened being a stagiare to a “really big job interview.” He will also be joined by good friend and former Trek Livestrong Under-23 team-mate Dale Parker in the coming year. He says the two-year deal is customary for all new professionals, giving him time to work his way into the team’s culture. “I’ll start working [my way] up in the second year,” says George. “It’s such a huge step up, it’s just so fast. So it’s really important that in that first six months I adapt to living like a pro; being away and finding a house.” But George is keen to perform straight away. “I don’t want to get off on a bad start.” In 2009 George joined an amateur French team following a career in mountain biking. He worked his way on to a better team, before joining the Under-23 Trek Livestrong team in Boulder, Colorado. George says it was the most fun he’s had during his sporting career. “They were all real cool guys. Axel Merckx was awesome to have as your director, it was just fun the whole time. We had a lot of fun off the bike but as soon as we got on the bike our team was just Nelson’s George Bennett has been selected to ride with one of so powerful. learning opportunities for their children.” The centre also runs the Supporting Parents Alongside Childrens Education (SPACE) programme for first time parents and babies. The programme has 12 families enrolled and is designed to give parents a chance to relax and play with their children. It is a way they can spend time with the other parents in a supportive environment. The programme runs for 3-4 terms and parents meet once a week. Natural toys such as pine cones and wool are encouraged and as they get older play dough, paint and sand is introduced. They enjoy a range of activities including art, first aid, swimming, te reo, guest speakers, learning about baby nutrition, teething and other things associated with babies development.

Saxton Stadium is opening its doors to local families this Saturday from 11am to 3pm. The free family fun day is hosted by Sport Tasman with its resident sport codes giving families a taste of their code. There will be a whole host of free activities available, including basketball, netball, table tennis, volleyball, Way2Go Activities and bike trail, active movement trailer, fun inflatables, futsal, sausage sizzle and much, much more. During the day there will be a ‘Special Treasure Hunt’ and numerous fun activities for the

There is no obligation to take part in sport so feel free to just turn up and have a go at heaps of activities, have a go, enjoy the fun activities or just relax with some quality family time says Sport Tasman CEO Nigel Muir. “It will be a great opportunity for our local community to view the Stadium and take part in some activities at this fantastic facility,” he says. Nelson Dawnbreakers Fishing Club Tasman Bay snapper are still proving to be a bit elusive, but it is just a matter of time before they will be more consistent in numbers with the water temperature starting to rise. Last weekend a 17lb snapper was caught in Kenepuru but it is still hard work with a lot of sharks about. We also have word of some large cod being caught off Witts Rock and our Dawnbreaker divers sighted some kingfish at The Glen last week, which means they will start to move down the boulder bank in the coming weeks. Kayak Fishing is experiencing an amazing increase in popularity and is now recognised as one of the fastest growing water sports in New Zealand and certainly it’s making fishing far more accessible to all. Our kayak fishers have been hauling in some great sized gurnard, new season snapper and terakihi. Tip for kayak fishing and catching gurnard at Delaware Bay – paddle out on the outgoing tide or you’ll be paddling backwards!! Head out to around 50ft of water where the sand meets the mud, anchor up here (don’t drift) use a size 5 hook, 1 inch cube pilchards for bait and suspend your bait just off the ocean floor, sit back and smile!! This method has produced Gurnard up to 1.13kg!! The next Dawnbreakers social evening is 7pm Saturday, December 3 at the Nelson Suburban Club. Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome to come along and meet other mad keen fisherman.
The Nelson College junior boys volleyball team has been given a major confidence booster heading in to the South Island Secondary School Junior Championship in Christchurch in a week’s time, after it won the Tasman qualifying section. They are from left; Neil Anderson (coach), Tae Koo, Harry Fergusson, Raffie Darroch, James Anderson, Jack Malcolm, Matt Holyoake, Max Stevenson and Kim Anderson. Nelson College A defeated Waimea College A in two sets, in the boys final at Saxton Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Nelson won the first set 25-23 before easing to a 25-13 second set win. Waimea College A took out the girls final winning 25-17 and 25-21 against Nelson College for Girls A. Photo: Phillip Rollo.
