Wardens target parents A zero tolerance approach to illegal parking outside Nelson’s St Josephs School has seen a number of parking tickets being handed out to parents and caregivers – but it hasn’t been initiated by the school. Nelson City Council have employed a camera-armed parking warden to patrol outside the school on Manuka St at drop off and pick up times - where double-parking, stopping in traffic lanes and congestion have become a major issue. The school’s principal Mike Burton says he has welcomed the council’s involvement in keeping the school’s parking problems at bay. “It seems to be a practical and reasonable thing to do. Central schools, it becomes very congested when schools come out at the end of the day,” he explains. “We haven’t asked for it or initiated it at all – the council just do it and we are happy for them to continue. When the wardens are not there we do see bad parking habits creep in again.” A spokesperson from Nelson City Council says they introduced parking wardens on Manuka St after they received complaints from residents about illegal parking near the school. “The stopping and parking restrictions around schools are

points were accumulated so that the club champion for each age group can be determined at the end of the season. Run by the Nelson Surf Life Saving Club, the Nippers programme is for children aged 7-13 and teaches them valuable skills including swimming and board skills, how to read the water and other water safety

principles. The Nelson Nippers programme involves 50 children, with around 40 of them competing on Sunday. The skills they learn, including high knees running into the water and dolphin diving under the waves, are also used by the surf life-saving team, where the Nippers can progress to as they get older.

Yellow lines outside a busy St Josephs school. Parking wardens have been patrolling the area recently. Photo: Kate Russell. Another parent describes the parking as “awful,” with another saying his younger daughter nearly got hit by a car when he came to collect his older son last month. “It’s a circus - it gets pretty frantic.” The school have also introduced a ‘drop and drive’ initiative, where parents are able to quickly drop off younger children at the gate where they are met by a senior student who takes them to their classroom. Mike

says this has helped with some of the congestion and freed up more parking spaces. Mike also says that when the council get around to creating a full length footpath outside the school in Bronte St, the Manuka St situation may improve as parents will be able to safely use this area for pickups. “The council’s parking restrictions are probably the best that can be achieved in this situation and, if they are adhered to, children will be safe.”

designed primarily for the safety of students, to ensure they are able to see and be seen by moving traffic. We encourage parents to choose safe parking over convenience at all times. This approach is generally welcomed and supported by all schools council works with.” The school is also encouraging parents to adhere to the parking regulations for the safety of children, and Mike also says it would be helpful if parents from both schools parked further from the schools and walked to pick up their children if they were too young to walk alone. One parent from the school says they have to leave home well ahead of drop off and pick up times to find a park, and sees “lots” of people who overstay their welcome in the parking spaces by the main gate. “I can see why people are doing it as the parking is not good, but I can also see the need to issue fines if safety is compromised.”

$5000 winner picked from 100,000 entries Simon Bloomberg Appleby’s Jim Matthews has been buying his petrol and “the occasional sneaky pie and sausage roll” from Waimea Motors for years, but this month he made a purchase that he will never forget. Jim, who owns the popular Richmond bike shop Village Cycles, won the top prize of $5000 cash in this year’s Shop ‘n’ Win promotion after buying petrol and filling out his entry form at Waimea Motors. Jim’s big win was also a bonus for Waimea Motors manager Barry Milne who received $2000 for submitting the winning entry. A record 98,000 entries were received for this year’s Shop ‘n Win promotion which was run by the Waimea Weekly and Richmond Mall. Six weekly prizes of $500 of Richmond Mall vouchers were also handed out leading up to last Friday’s final draw for the top prize of $5000. “I’ve been buying petrol here forever and I must have put in half a dozen Shop ‘n’ Win entries here over the last month,” Jim says. “But I was really surprised to win - I think the only thing I’ve ever won

Southern Link tops MP survey

Nelsonians want the Southern Link to proceed, are against raising the country’s refugee quota and support GST being added to music and films bought online. That’s according to Nick Smith’s annual survey, which was only completed by 712 people. The results of Nelson MP’s annual residents’ survey showed that the Southern Link project was a clear favourite when asked what they thought Nelson needed to be more attractive and competitive Nick Smith. with other regions. “I am not hugely surprised by this because it tallies with what I regularly hear during my constituency work,’’ Nick says. The survey also showed 68 per cent opposed increasing the refugee quota. Nick says he was surprised by the large number of people who opposed raising the quota. Other findings were that 71 per cent supported the establishment of a publiclyfunded Fisheries Museum and Marine Education Centre and that 68 per cent support GST being added to all products purchased internationally via the internet.

Councillors plan to sack colleague Andrew Board

“ “ “ “

Mike Ward: On this issue she [Rachel Reese] just hasn’t lived up to her own standards. This council has been remarkable for the lack of friction around the table. But on this occasion… Pete Rainey: You can’t divorce your position as a councillor or a mayor from anything. Once you are a mayor, or the chair of the RTC, you are in that role. Luke Acland: I can’t, knowing what I know, pretend that this hasn’t happened. You can’t say this a good way to operate a democracy, where we’re all elected to represent our community. Matt Lawery: Nelson City Council was represented on that focus group, but without council’s knowledge or the wider public’s knowledge and on the most controversial issue that has faced the city in probably 30 years.

for Eric but he still believes that he deserves to be removed from his role. “I’m sure Eric was doing it, thinking he was doing the right thing. But process requires that the ends must justify the means so you can’t say 'I’m not involved' in the process while you are.” Luke says the mayor’s reasoning

that she and Eric weren’t acting on behalf of council doesn’t hold weight. “The mayor was invited because she is the mayor of the city and the chair of the RTC was invited because that person is the chair of the RTC. I’ve spoken to NZTA and they were invited for that reason because they are the

two most appropriate roles for people to be included for roading projects, representing NCC.” He says the Notice of Motion is directed at Eric and not Rachel, because he was the one who told them that he wasn't involved in the process. Eric declined to comment to the Weekly ahead of the vote. Rachel says she has not seen any evidence that points to Eric outright saying he wasn’t involved in the process and admitted she would be upset if he had. She says his comments from the regional transport committee minutes were referring to the committee itself. “I don’t have any information that says that Eric has said to another councillor that [he’s] not involved in the strategic case. I don’t have anything like that. Now they [councillors] might have had that conversation but I have no information to support that allegation. “If that is what has happened then absolutely I will share their [the councillors] concern and would have asked serious questions of Eric.” For an update on the vote on Thursday, visit nelsonlive.co.nz

The five Nelson City councillors who are gunning for Eric Davy to be removed as chair of the regional transport committee are standing by the move and say it’s a matter of principal. As revealed in last week’s Nelson Weekly, Luke Acland, Matt Lawrey, Pete Rainey, Mike Ward and Brian McGurk all signed a Notice of Motion to have Eric Davy removed from the role after an “abuse of process”. The Notice of Motion will be voted on at this Thursday’s full council meeting. The five councillors say they were repeatedly told that the council, or anyone from council, was not involved in the New Zealand Transport Agency’s first stage investigation into the need for a southern arterial road. But earlier this month when the findings of the first stage were released, it revealed that mayor Rachel Reese and Eric Davy were, in fact, members of the NZTA focus group. Last week, Rachel told Nelson Weekly that she and Eric were not representing the council views but were consulted because of their vast knowledge of local roads

“and that is entirely appropriate”. She said the Notice of Motion was akin to a “political tantrum”. But the NZTA report indicates that Rachel and Eric were on the focus group representing Nelson City Council. It read: “Nelson City Council (NCC), represented by mayor and regional transport committee member, Rachel Reese and works and infrastructure committee chair and regional transport committee chair, Eric Davy.” Luke, who initiated the Notice of Motion, says Eric repeatedly told fellow councillors that neither he, nor anyone else from council, was having anything to do with the NZTA investigation. According to the received, yet unconfirmed, minutes of the Regional Transport Committee meeting of October 16, Eric said: “The committee had not been involved in any discussions or provided any input into the New Zealand Transport Agency regarding the Nelson Southern Link." All five councillors who signed the Notice of Motion say they stand by that decision, despite its outcome of removing a colleague from his position. Luke says he has some sympathy

Trade Me's billionth listing from Nelson Locally Owned and Operated

Trade Me is due for its billionth listing this week, but the auction website already knows who the listing will belong to – Nelson man Alfred Traxler. After a “nail-biting” half an hour late last month, Alfred won the auction Trade Me had set up to determine who would be their one billionth lister. His winning bid was $755, with all proceeds going to charity. Originally from Austria, Alfred and his New Zealand wife Rena settled in Nelson, but when Rena was diagnosed with cancer, Alfred turned from baker into full time carer for both her and their son Audi, who has a heart condition. “Then my wife said ‘Alfred, when I’ve passed away, please start up a business called Junkstyle and look after our son,' and that’s what I did. Since then I’ve worked and worked and worked, so now we’re here with this business,” he says.

Being an avid collector of anything and everything, Alfred had no lack of items to list to top up the family's income, and what started out as a useful hobby soon became a business. Alfred has been a full time seller on Trade Me since 2011 and he doesn’t just have buyers, he has fans, thanks to the way Junkstyle sells a story as well as an item. English is not Alfred's first language so he expresses himself through the photos that accompany his listings on Trademe. A classic example of Junkstyle humour being his listing for a number of manequins, however, if you looked very hard you may have seen the actual nude person standing amongst the plastic bodies. “I feel overwhelmed, I never dreamed I could do this, it was my wife’s wish and for that reason I made it work,”

Everything Junkstyle lists is sourced locally, from second-hand shops to collectors, including the item that has become the one billionth listing on Trade Me, a collectable Meadow Gold ice cream sign from the 1960s. Alfred can’t pin down a favourite listing but says he never keeps any of the items he sources anymore. “It all goes, the only thing I’ve kept was my wife’s last painting. If my wife was still alive, we

Wakefield’s Denise Shellock always wanted to be a teacher, it’s just taken her a little longer than usual to achieve her goal. Denise was one of 13 pre-school and primary teachers to receive their full teachers certificates at a ceremony at Seifried Estate on Friday. But unlike most of the new teachers attending the ceremony, Denise took almost 30 years to gain her qualification after being sidetracked by a career in the dairy industry, raising five children and working as a teacher aide. Denise, aged 45, worked as a dairy technician at Brightwater when she left school before taking time out to raise her five children. She spent seven years as a teacher aide at Waimea Intermediate School, completing a degree in teaching and learning part-time and extramurally through Canterbury University before getting her first teaching job at Garin College in 2011. “It took four years to finish my degree. I studied extramurally and part-time so I had to juggle

it around family, work and everything else – it was quite hard finding the right balance.” Denise got a full-time job teaching at Wakefield School in term one in 2013, before securing her first permanent teaching position at Tapawera Area School last year. She has now completed the two years of teaching under a mentoring teacher at Tapawera required to complete her full teacher’s certificate. “It took me eight years from start to finish but it’s been worth the effort. I love working with kids and seeing them grow and develop and having a little input into their lives.” Full teachers certificates were also presented to Briar McKenzie, Bronwyn Gentry, Judy Heath, Libby MacGregor, Loui Harvey, Vanessa Jane Oldham, Andrew Matheson, Isaac Misinale, Emily Cahill, Abbey Trewavas, Melissa Clough and Lisa Watkins.

The couple are also in charge of ringing around businesses for food donations and discounts, and Alison says the response this year has been great. Berries, trifle sponges, salmon and vegetables – just to name a few – are all being donated by local businesses. They have also organised extra decorations for the hall and a “fun” Father Christmas. Christmas Eve will be spent preparing food, and then it will be 'all hands on deck' on Christmas day. Alison says last year she was really thrown in the deep end in the kitchen. “The chef didn’t show up on Christmas Eve to prepare the food, but I took control and made sure all 30 chickens were cooked and ready for the next day.” Mayors’ Christmas Dinner, 25 December at Nelson College Dining Hall. Doors open 11am. Tickets are $15 and available until December 18 from Nelson City Council, Stoke Library and Tasman District Council.

While most people will be spending Christmas day with their family, one Stoke couple will be spending it preparing Christmas dinner for an anticipated 200 senior citizens. Alison and Malcolm Ross have been volunteers for the annual Mayors’ Christmas Dinner for the past two years and say it’s a “very rewarding” way to spend the day. The community dinner, which is held at the Nelson College dining hall, is for senior citizens who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone. Alison says it’s something she and Malcolm just got “drawn into”. “I went along to a Rotary meeting about two years ago and they were asking for volunteers for the dinner. I thought it would be quite good to do that, so I called up to see what I could do.” She says councillor Brian McGurk, who organises the dinner, was very happy to hear from her and they then took on the massive task of

Irrigators show ‘good support’ for dam proposal Waimea Community Dam Limited’s project director Nick Patterson is optimistic that land owners and water permit holders will provide “the necessary support to go ahead” with the proposed $73.5million dam, after two meetings at Seifried Estate near Richmond last week. WCDL is proposing to form a joint-venture with the Tasman District Council to construct a dam in the Lee Valley to store water for irrigation and urban water users on the Waimea Plains. It held two meetings to present plans for funding the dam to land owners and water permit holders on Monday and received “a largely positive response from the majority” of the 200 people who attended. “We had good support,” Nick says. “There were one or two people speaking against it but it was largely a reasonably positive response from the majority.” Nick says the next step is to collate the results of a survey aimed at getting an indication of the level of financial commitment to the project. It was sent to all water permit holders and land owners who own more than one hectare of land on the Waimea Plains and asks, ‘based on the indicative capital and operating costs, how many hectares of irrigation rights would you purchase in the WCDL proposal?’ The proposal estimates that it would cost landowners $4500 per hectare to purchase irrigation shares as well as around $450 per hectare per year to pay for operating costs and debt funding. Although Nick says WCDL’s proposal “is reasonable”, he accepts that the TDC has some concerns with it and there is still a long way to go before anything is approved. “There are still a lot of things to be ticked off before the project can go ahead and I’m sure there will be a lot of changes.”

Having a conversation with the retailer is real life. Seeing people in the local shops is awesome. It's a shame commercial rent is so high. Andrea Grocott. Wow, sounds like a great way to lose more customers. Move with the times or get left behind. Setting up your online store should have been done years ago. Then again, if prices are not competitive, clearly people will shop elsewhere. Personally I don't buy clothes or shoes online. Would also prefer to buy local. But if someone was going to charge me "fitting" I would be sure to not buy from that store. They would also lose recommendations from genuine customers like me. If a business does not have a strong online presence, chances are I won't shop there because I like to look from my couch then

go into the appropriate shop. This goes for everything from clothes to car repairs. Mat Krahagen. Councillors at war: My home is right beside the proposed southern link. I will be fighting against it. The council must be up front and honest about everything. As far as I am concerned, it's worth fighting against it. I am in Dubai at the moment and I have to say Nelson has never seen traffic jams and busy roads like it. And not just at peak times, but constantly. Nelson is a beautiful place and the last thing it needs it's a horrible motorway right through the middle of it. There are plenty of other solutions. Kay Williams. It's pathetic. This is supposed to be a positive move - something to get Nelsonians talking about what we need to do to move forward into the future and how to make Nelson a progressive place instead we've got a bunch of babies throwing their toys out of the cot ... what hope do we have...? It looked like a boat launch gone horribly wrong, but it actually went swimmingly on Tuesday with the hull of a new inshore trawler now afloat in Port Nelson ready to be fitted out. The newly-constructed hull entered the water upside down before being flipped upright by a tug in what was a first for the Nelson boat building industry. The boat is being constructed by Port Nelson engineering company Aimex Service Group and chief executive Steve Sullivan says the upside down launch was “the easiest and safest” way to get the hull in the water. “We usually lift it up by crane and flip it in the air, but didn’t really want 80 tonnes in the air so we put it in upside down. It was all sealed and then the tug righted it.”

Steve says the boat is expected to be completed and ready for delivery by July next year. It is the first of six inshore boats Aimex is building for the country’s biggest iwi-owned fisheries company, Aotearoa Fisheries. It was designed by Australian company Ocean Tech with guidance from Nelson-based Westfleet chief executive Craig Boote. Aotearoa Fisheries chief executive Carl Carrington says the six boats will be completed over the next few years at a total cost of $25-30million. He says the new boats will provide a much-needed boost to the country’s ageing inshore fishing fleet which has an average vessel age of 40.

Brightwater carols not a complete wash out A little bit of water wasn’t going to stop the people of Brightwater over the weekend. The annual Carols by Glo-light at Snowden’s Bush was ambushed by heavy rain on Saturday, so organisers moved the event to the Brightwater Hall. Over 100 people brought their picnic baskets and blankets and crammed into the hall, filling it with food, families, tinsel, music, carols and a wee visit from Santa.

Wedding Album

Brightwater School student Rihanna Churchill was on stage with the school choir and decked out with glo-sticks. “I really liked dancing and singing on the stage, my favourite part was when we sang ‘One Call Away’.” Local Kay Stratford has been coming to the event with her grandchildren for years. “It’s a great night, it really makes you feel like it’s Christmas,” says Kay.

Summer tour started from Mall Chat a YouTube clip and a beer

• Good news, the construction work is now completed at Pak ‘n Save and the car park has been repainted with new and additional trolley bays installed.

Andrew Board Paul McCartney first heard John Lennon sing at a church fair. Jimmy Page first heard Robert Plant sing at a gig at a teachers training college. But typical for 2015, Josiah Samuel first heard Murk Aukema sing on Youtube. While Murk and Josiah’s new band may not have reached the heights of the Beatles or Led Zeppelin just yet, their chance meeting is good news for Nelsonians as they prepare for their first summer tour around the region. The day the band formed, Josiah was watching a Youtube clip at a Nelson backpackers with a friend when the voice in the video jumped up behind him. “I was watching the video of Murk and then he walked passed, so I asked him if he wanted to jam.” He did and they connected instantly. “We play totally different styles of music,” says Josiah. “But it feels good… go with it… yeah, it works well.” Later that night, while having a few beers at the Sprig & Fern on Hardy St, the pair played a couple of songs on stage. While most of the punters were happy to clap, Justine Jamieson wanted to help. “They were so good and after I met them I just wanted to help them so we decided to try to make them famous in Nelson,” says Justine, a local advertising rep and fashion writer who was enjoying a night out with her friends before running into the pair. The following day, after the Dutch

The speed of the band coming together and the number of tour dates confirmed has shocked all three. “When I came up [to Nelson] I was busking, coz I left Dunedin with a bag of clothes and a guitar,” says Josiah. “Now this has happened, it’s a bit better than busking.” Murk, travelling in New Zealand from Holland, says forming this band has given him belief to make a living out

Bridget Budget answers your questions

Q: I have been asked to be a

guarantor for my son’s first mortgage. Is there any real risk for me?

A: If a bank has asked for a guarantee, it may

indicate that they consider the loan to be risky. If you are a guarantor, you will be required to pay all the debt if your son fails to pay. Firstly, I recommend that you get independent legal advice. Guarantor agreements are complex and include important clauses that you should fully understand the meaning of. Common clauses include:  The guarantor’s assets (eg. a house) are used as security for the debt. If the debt is not paid, the bank can sell the guarantor’s assets to recover the money owed.  Guarantors are also liable for any future borrowing, such as penalties, interest or over-drafts in relation to the original debt or even new loans.  Guarantors may be called upon to immediately pay the outstanding debt in full.  Guarantors are not entitled to know anything about the lenders dealings with the bank, even if they are behind in their payments. If you decide to go ahead with the guarantee, ask your lawyer how you can minimise your risk. You could say ‘no’ to being a guarantor and consider other ways that you might help your son.

A new material arts club has formed in Nelson, encompassing a bit of Judo, Karate, boxing and even street fighting. Fuji Ryu Jiu-Jitsu was founded last month and is operating out of the old Tahuna Town Hall on Tahunanui Drive. High school students top university papers Nayland College students Gerry Toft and James MacKay have achieved top grades in a 100-level mathematics paper studied through the University of Canterbury. Both students have received A+ results, with Gerry scoring 95 out of 95 possible marks in his final exam. The UC course, delivered online with Skype tutorial sessions, was offered to the pair in 2015 as an opportunity to continue study in a subject they are both passionate about. Gerry and James had completed Level 3 NCEA mathematics a year ahead of their peer group, with Gerry earning NCEA Scholarship results in calculus and physics and James earning an NCEA Scholarship in Physics. Transitioning to university study was the obvious next step for both students.

Mark finishes top two in Mr Universe Andrew Board Eight years after winning the Mr Universe bodybuilding crown, Nelson’s Mark Anderson is still at it – finishing runner-up at the latest competition in the UK. Competing in the over 40 category, Mark strutted his stuff in front of some impressed judges who handed the personal trainer second place at the prestigious competition. Not bad for someone who only arrived in the country two days earlier, after 26 hours of travelling and with two torn biceps. “I tore my right one in 2007 and then about a year later I tore my other one just lifting weight equipment off a trailer, at least they are both torn now, but that sort of thing holds me back a bit with symmetry and that’s probably one of the main reasons why I didn’t win. But my condition this year was probably the best it’s ever been.”

Mark has been competing in international competitions since the mid-90s, the highlight winning the Mr Universe competition in Spain in 2007. In the lead up to a competition, Mark trains six or seven days a week, and each day involves a cardio workout in the morning before weight training later in the day. But the worst part of the build-up to a major competition is the diet, says Mark. “From about 20 weeks out I really drop all sugars out of the diet, really ultra-low fat apart from fish oils, and high protein. I eat about every two and a half hours just to keep my metabolic rate up, plus you’ve still got to hold down your normal job and everything else. The 20 weeks either makes or breaks it for you, there are a lot of people who compete, but unless you’re really dieting it’s just not going to happen.” He even has special meals on the

All that work leaves Mark with a body fat percentage of between 1 and 2 per cent on the eve of the competition. He says it’s tough, but worth it. “Some years you wonder, you get half way through

“I’m really, really pleased to stand up on the world stage like that, although in the back of your mind you always thinking 'oh, that elusive first place would be nice, so I’m definitely going again.” In the meantime, Mark is already preparing to organise the sixth annual Nelson Bodybuilding competition at the Theatre Royal next winter.

your diet and you think ‘god what am I doing?’ But afterwards it’s all worth it when you stand up on stage. It’s a great feeling.” After the competition, Mark says he celebrated with a steak and icecream before heading to Thailand for a two week holiday. Now back in Nelson, Mark is preparing for next year’s competition where he hopes to go one better.

Hundred swimmers take to ocean 100% The distance may have been longer but nothing else changed in Sunday's sea swim, with Thomas Heaton and Hayden Squance finishing one-two in the men's race and the fastest woman, Talya Harwood, finishing third. Thomas, Hayden and Talya have been dominating the shorter races in the Port Nelson Sea Swim series on Thursday nights and continued that form in the first race of the Cle-

ments Windows and Doors Endurance series on Sunday. Thomas completed the 2km swim from Tahuna Beach to the Nelson Yacht Club in 24min 58sec with Hayden second in 26min 38sec and Talya third in 27min 48sec. Men's 40-49 swimmer Terry Bone was fourth in 28min 6sec and 30-39 swimmer Matt Hansen fifth in 28min 8sec. Jodie Lovell won the

women's 30-39 race and was the second fastest woman in 32min 1sec. Finella Gibbs-Beal won the 600m short-course in 8min 16 sec with Zara Aydon second in 8min 26sec. Tough track for mountainbike series Henry Jaine had to repel a challenge from Christchurch rider Mathew Waghorn and negotiate deteriorating track conditions before winning race six of the Nelson Mountainbike Club's cross-country series held in the Codgers Mountainbike Park on Sunday. The two pacesetters raced clear at the start up Fireball Road before descending at top speed down Firball and Turners tracks to post the only two sub-18 minute laps of the day. Henry eventually managed to shake off Matt and handle a sudden rainstorm and slippery second lap to win the race and series . Master 1 rider Blenheim’s Sarnim Dean was next to leave the gravel road onto the steep single track ahead of the aggressive riding of Warren Burgess and Jake Stow. Zoe King, always a good climber, showed a clean pair of cleats to the rest of the women. Sandy Vincent was the second strongest female, closely followed by Brenda Clapp. Most classes had their own separate battles with Hannah Feely edging out Katie Roddis in senior women. Kiel Boynton relished the change in track conditions to keep clear of Joel Scott to win Masters 1 while Liv Bishop won the under-17 ahead of Emma Bateup. Derek Milne completed a series clean-sweep to take the Master 3 series while Warren Algie won the over 60 race and series. Henri Hufflett showed promise to negotiate the challenging course to win the under-15 race although Ari Scott had enough points to win the series.

Pre-Christmas Cemetery Mowing Nelmac wishes to advise family and visitors tending lawn graves at Marsden Valley Cemetery and the ashes lawn at Wakapuaka Cemetery, that all flowers will be removed from graves on Tuesday 22nd December to enable these areas to be mown prior to Christmas. Flowers can again be placed on graves from Thursday 24th December. Nelmac thanks families for their understanding in this matter.

We need you to help us grow and maintain our plants (a wide variety of young fruit trees.) The work will be at either our Nursery on Golden Hills Road in Appleby, Richmond, or at one of our open ground field blocks.

Do you have: - an interest in horticulture and enjoy working in a team environment. - a work history that demonstrates that you have a strong work ethic and know how important it is to turn up for work every day. You will need to be physically fit (bending is a big aspect of the role), live in the Nelson/Tasman Bay area and have your own reliable transport. To find out more about Waimea Nurseries go to www.waimeanurseries.co.nz and then select Employment at the bottom left hand side of the home page to apply online. Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the number of applications received, applicants will only be contacted if successful in proceeding to the interview process.
