STATES OF BEING

“The fragmentation and reunification of the personality” is a broader project to apply for the PHD studies, which contains some small projects, realized during my research.

“States of Being” is building up from digital prints, studying the fragmented

compositional distribution of the visual experiences, the kaleidoscopic composition of fragmentation and reunification, the relationship of portraits and the structure of the surrounding space. Refers to the problem of duality, the search for the balance between the male and female parts of a personality, the fragmentation of personalities, like a contemporary problem.

Aims to strike the balance – the “equilibrium” – the symmetrical compositional

structure also serves the realization of a balanced state of being. The starting point is René Guenon’s philosophical view: „Man is no more than a temporary and contingent manifestation of the true existence.”

The project is constructed on the reinterpretation of the terminology used by

Carl G. Jung, the elements of the psyche, through the world of the visual experiences: the subconscious, the persona (like the ego, the conscious part), the anima (the unconscious part that takes the form of a female figure during the search of the personality).

The concept is the individualization of several major persons, with who I met, from

different mediums, representing parallel realities (spheres). The certain forms of fears are embodied, the barriers, that prevent the development of individuals.

The project is therapeutic, the self-discovery rises from the process of individu-

alization. The axially symmetrical composition serves for a representation of the multidimensional aspects of the individual. The use of strong and bright colors is essential for the visual experiences. The circular composition carries different meanings in the works by rotating them, the changing of the positioning – from horizontal to vertical position.

The 5 works are realized as a result of dominant psychedelic experiences, giving

an introduction of the different type of encounters with certain individuals: States of Being I.; States of Being II.; States of Being III.; States of Being IV.; States of Being V.

VORTEX

The concept of my project for the MA studies, “Vortex” (Örvény), is the evolution of my life, the succession of different stages during my life, which are closely related to my artistic creation.

The starting points are the esoteric conceptions about chakras. I’m expanding a

self-analysis on the seven main chakra points, showing seven stages characteristic of my life, considering the negative features of each one, which are representing physical and mental disorders, for each chakra point. “If you’re afraid of something, you can’t make a big deal”, in each case appears a form of fear, in a certain way, characteristic for the respective chakra point. Basically the name, “Vortex”, refers to a longer period, a travelling through the channel of a vortex, for self-knowledge. The travelling manifests both on physically plane (prints) and psychically plane (metal plates), where the most significant stages are based on different fears. The trip results the transformation of consciousness, across the “Rainbow Bridge”, connecting the spiritual and the material, the heaven and the earth, the mind and the body. The seven colours represent an alternative way for our black and white binary sense. Despite of the circularity the goal is not to get somewhere, but rather the elimination of barriers, for the purpose of self-treatment, to realize that we are already there. The viewer enters the “vortex”, where the colourful prints with clear-unclear shapes and the metal plates with the surrounding elements, creates a “wormhole”, where everyone must strive to find their own path to exit the vortex. The realization of the project includes 7+7 works – the final prints and the metal plates – in the framework of a larger wooden installation: The Root Chakra I.-II.; The Sacral Chakra I.-II.; The Solar Chakra I.-II.; The Throat Chakra I.-II.; The Third-Eye Chakra I.-II.; The Crown Chakra I.-II.

CASE 28TH DECEMBER ’90

The project for the BA studies thematically is self-portrait. The concept is the evolution of my life, the succession of different stages during my life, which are closely related to my artistic creation, a circular process, wrapped under a criminal investigation.

The starting point is Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophical interpretation of the Book

of Revelations in the Bible. Four periods varies cyclically during my life, which are parallel with the breaking of the first 4 seals in the Book of Revelations, with the appearance of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse: the first one is the balanced state, the second one is the state of depression, the third one is the state of passing through the unpleasant situations, the fourth state is the so-called- creative process.

DANTE’S INFERNO

The project’s theme is the illustration of Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy”, more specifically the representation of the “Hell”, highlighting the more characteristic moments of the postmodern, rigid reality, uplifting the work written hundreds of years ago to a contemporary level. Technically the illustrations are realized with different engraving techniques – combining etching with aquatint. The illustrations are realized passing through the different levels of hell. The overall look of the project is based on symmetry, the same number and size of illustrations are found in the first and second part of the “Hell”, with a large-scale illustration in the middle, dominating in size and in content the entire project. The different steps of the hell are represented with the multitude of scenes from the postmodern human environment. The starting points are the photographs made for criminal investigations about physical disorders, deaths, murders committed with cruelty and brutality. The illustrations are a little more restrained, but they still preserve the shameful deeds of humanity, the brutality and morbidity, by grotesque and irony, usually in a pessimistic way.
