Freedom is in Fashion Kasayahan at Kasuotang Pinoy sa Manhattan flaunts Pinoy pride in style
Keeping up with the times while staying true to Filipino heritage, Kasayahan at Kasuotang Pinoy sa Manhattan offers both a peek into the future and an homage to national traditions. Made possible through the partnership of Neocolors Productions and Advertising International Inc. and JC Events, it celebrates the 121st Philippine Independence in New York in a showcase of modern-Filipiniana masterpieces by seasoned fashion designers Albert Andrada and Cherry Veric. As the creator of the iconic dress worn by Miss Universe 2017 Pia Wurtzbach, it’s not surprising that Andrada’s inspiration hails from the empowered Filipina who dares to get noticed. Entitled Alembong, the collection features Jusi-infused with fabrics that update the traditional Filipiniana, with cuts and silhouettes echoing contemporary style. “I feel proud because we Filipinos are very artistic. We really explore. We can use anything under the sun—we can make it flourish and well-crafted,” the veteran creative says.
Cherry Veric, one of the country’s proficient style makers today, presents indigenous prints interspersed with shades reminiscent of vibrant Philippine festivals. Taking cues from foreign and local elements, his vision represents native artistry evident in pieces that are sophisticated yet wearable for the adventurous Filipina. Uplifting the Filipino spirit wouldn’t be possible without the support of brands kababayans can definitely be proud of. With over 102 years of trusted service, the Philippine National Bank continues to provide financial solutions toward better lives for Filipinos. Tanduay—officially the world’s number-one rum— further strengthens its presence in the United States East Coast to elevate Filipino craftsmanship in the international scene. Real-estate leaders Ayala Land, Inc. and Eton Properties Philippines have launched the 35-hectare Parklinks, their greenest urban estate to date— reinforcing their shared commitment to provide sustainable communities to valued customers. Meanwhile, Philippine Airlines, the country’s first and only 4-Star-rated airline, hits another historic milestone as the first to fly nonstop daily from New York to Manila with the new Airbus A350-900. Kasayahan at Kasuotang Pinoy sa Manhattan will be held on June 1, 2019 at Skylight Modern, known for staging the world’s most prestigious events such as the New York Fashion Week. Gracing the show will be top millennial artists—Bela Padilla, Sam Milby, and Kim Chiu—ready to entertain the Filipino audience with outstanding performances. The much-anticipated Philippine Independence Parade will take place on Madison Avenue on the next day. “It’s a conscious effort for young producers like JC Events and Neocolors Productions and Advertising International Inc. to really believe in our talent and invest in it,” Neocolors president and CEO Christine May Daguno-Canoy beams with pride.

Albert Andrada Designer
Having worked in the Middle East as the personal fashion designer to royalty at the Fujairah Ruler’s Palace for two decades, Albert has skillfully developed his own distinctive design aesthetics that blends elegance and an unmistakable hint of extravagance. In Manila, Albert is the designer of choice for the well-heeled women of high society. To date, his most memorable and popular design is the iconic royal blue gown which Pia Wurtzbach wore in the Miss Universe pageant. His collection highlights the modern day Filipina entitled “Alembong.” Yards and yards of jusi fabrics were used to create this modern Filipina collection.
