Welcome to my colour guide for 2019. Inside this guide, you will find a lovlingly curated collection of colours, patterns and images relating to the pantone trends that will be most visible in 2019. Colour has become one of the most important elements of commercial design. It allows the designer complete freedom to express their unique artworks; by simply adding the right colours, the most original illustrations and patterns instantly become fashionable. As head of a busy surface art agency selling prints and patterns to companies all over the world, it is extremely important for me to develop pattern ranges that are true to the seasons colours. I invite you to see how designers at Nerida Hansenn Print and Textiles, as well as other admired designers from around the world, have gone about interpreting the 2019 pantone themes. With so many transeasonal highlights, this guide will ensure you can make savvy colour choices for your designs from the Northern Hemisphere winter months of 2018/19, through the Summer 2019, and on to to the following winter 2019/20. WISTFUL Pantone’ s Wistful theme is where gentle colours glow in the company of taupe and khaki shadows. If you are a pastel-addict like me, this colour theme will excite you, and you will be pleased to know it carries great weight across several seasons to come. Soft hues such as Pantone’s Cloud Dancer, Pastel Parchment and Xenon Blue force a feminine hand. But softness is not always the only option, as contrast colours of Crocodile and Brilliant White create a stark monochromatic look for summer fashion. At Nerida Hansen Print & Pattern Agency we dedicate this colour theme largely to our love of nature, with pretty florals and natural themes dictating our pattern design. 4

Stark crimsons, nightshades and greys that can be mistaken for sadness, are lifted by the soft contrast of pinks such as Pantone’s Orchid Sky and Orchid Ice. The resulting pallet is moody, beautiful and sophisticated. It can be used well as a transition out of and into winter. This theme evokes the use of textures such as engineerd lace & feathered surfaces, with motifs featuring oversize blooms, and patterns with a romantic and nostalgic feel. 8

TRANSPORTIVE Crisp, cool turquoises create a flowing cascade of watery colour within this fresh and clear transeasonal pallet. Incorporating Pantone’s Dazzling Blue with Celestial Blue and Blue Glow, the greens and yellows of Pantone’s ”ransportative theme evoke a joyful sense of movement and vibrancy. At Nerida Hansen Print & Textiles, we have interpreted this theme with creatures on the move, speckled tropicals and geometrics used boldly or with abstract brush. Mustard and lime give this theme a golden aura, providing warmth amongs the dynamic freshness, fluidity and energy. 3

SENSUAL Pantone’s Sensual theme is a perfect blend of masculinity and femininity, providing pink with a platform to escape its usual prettiness. Feminine becomes masculine with a merge of peach tones into deep Cameo Brown, sitting with hues of Grape and Licorice. This is where we play with geometrics on a grand scale, deepen our floral backgrounds and incorporate rich textures. The introduction of gold and almond shades further highlight the luxe appeal. 8

BUDDING Budding uses transeasonal tones of green and brown, just perfect for vegetal motifs. Birch and Light Fog soothe deep dark greens and coffee colours. Charlock (Lime), Dill and Parrot Green provide a jovial synergy with pops of soothing oranges and yellows. Budding is all about botanics & natural elements that can be intepreted realistically, or in abstract form through brush strokes or geometrics. It is certainly a strong statement theme that can be used all year round, depending on the assignment of complimentary colour. 2

Treasured is where brights meet brights, and simple combinations elicit a bold and fun approach to design. We have interpreted this theme with playfulness and with no particular end use in mind. Kids, Home & fashion are all fantastic categories for cut-out shapes, naive florals and story-book characters. Even though there are strong primary colours in play, they are complimented with irridescent sunset tones of Pantone’s Glacier, Cherry Blossom, Tumeric and Citrus. Purple and Navy play a masculine role in an exciting, vibrant pallet we ]]can all love. 4

The physical world drives Pantone’s Celebration�theme. Rich tones and earthy hues including Ghost Grey, Iris, Sunburn, Blue Mirage and Oil Green evoke a juxtiposition of earthiness and ethnicity, with the luxury of Gold accents. This deeply grounded pallet is more trans-seasonal than summery, but the lighter complimentary colours of Birch, Blanc de Blanc and Orchid Ice create a beautiful feminine vibe to compliment high summer & autumnal fashion. 3

Pantone’s Life Force is the happiest combination of colour. This bright, spring and summer theme evokes creativity with no bounds, which is visible in the presentation of our showcase here. Beautiful, cheery pinks of Pastel Lilac, Orchid and Ochid Ice sit prettily with soft taupe tones, whilst a more playful angle on this boisterous collection of colour is derived from brights of Jazzy, Custard and Pale Lime Yellow. VENERATION ”The Perfect Bridget Between Seasons” is how Pantone describe Veneration. It is a celebration of blues and complimentary splits of pink, the deep-spice tone of Andorra and silver. When curating our patterns for the Veneration them we were inspired by movement, sport, water, dynamic geometrics and fun designs for kids. As far as we are concerned, Veneration is an ever-green pallet, changing only slightly from season to season by it’s complimentary influences.
