Wooden Wonders

This workshop provides an introduction to the traditional craft of woodcarving. During the day you will learn some simple techniques in shallow relief carving that will enable you to produce your own hand carved chopping board. The workshop is suitable for absolute beginners, tools and wood provided.

Funk up your Furniture Salvage NI offer furniture upcycling workshops across Northern Ireland. Have you browsed through interiors magazines, watched all the DIY programmes on TV and thought I’d love to be more creative? With a bit of vision, something that one person has discarded can be a real treasure to another. The techniques covered will include distressing, crackling, decoupage and

recovering seats. All materials are provided but participants should bring along a small item of furniture. Please note this workshop is held over two nights. Blues Guitar Masterclass with Ronnie Greer Blues guitar legend Ronnie Greer has been at the centre of the blues music scene in Ireland now for over 40 years, having shared the stage with some of the leading names in the genre, including Dr John, Lowell Fulson and Memphis Slim, to name but a few. The workshop is suitable for those with some experience of guitar playing and with

Pastel, Oils and Acrylics with Cora Harrington

Cora loves the immediacy and vibrancy of working in pastel, producing not only beautiful traditional landscapes and portraits but also pushing the medium as far as she can by working on heavily textured and collaged surfaces. Cora sometimes incorporates gold leaf and other unusual substances in her contemporary pastel and mixed media pieces and was awarded the Silver Medal by

In this workshop with Sam Mercer you will learn to re-work items of clothing that have been sitting at the back of the wardrobe! Halloween Spooktacular Fireworks Display Banbridge District Council and The OUTLET are delighted to once again host the annual Halloween event and fireworks display on Friday 1st November.

Perfecting your poems

When you have your creative ideas down on paper, what are the skills you then need to make your poem the best it can be? This workshop will look at the self-editing process. Participants should bring along several copies of one or two poems which will then be work-shopped in a supportive atmosphere.

Telling your stories through poetry

“Write as you know” is advice often given to writers. What better place to begin than with your own stories? Throughout this relaxed and enjoyable workshop Denise will use prompts to trigger ideas that the Workplace may become poems. You will be surprised at the stories that appear during the workshop.

Using the five senses

If you’ve always wanted to write a poem but didn’t know how to start, this is the workshop for you. During this fun and easy going session you’ll use your five senses to write a poem and you’ll go home with a tried and tested technique that you can use for future writing. After the workshop there will be an open session from 2.30pm 4pm offering all participants the opportunity to listen to readings and ask the poets questions.

Hassardous Material

Colin Hassard is an award-winning poet and musician from Banbridge. Exploring the theme of ‘home’, Colin will mix poetry, music, and story-telling to perform a show that will entertain and inspire, and prove that poetry can be more than you might imagine. Since 2010, Colin has been Belfast Book Festival Poetry Champion and is the reigning Culture Night Belfast Poetry Slam Champion. Memoir Writing Workshop The John Hewitt Society presents a memoir writing workshop by Malachi O’Doherty.

A freelance journalist and broadcaster, Malachi has recently been BBC Writer in Residence at QUB. He has written six published books of non-fiction, the most recent of which include “Under His Roof”, a memoir of his late father, and “On My Own Two Wheels”, an entertaining account of his return to cycling at the age of sixty to recover his health and fitness!

A Night of Opera with Gemma Prince and Gail Evans Gemma has recently completed a year as a Young Artist with NI Opera and currently studies with Mary Plazas. Gemma has sung in masterclasses with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. Gail is a full-time accompanist and plays for Belfast Philharmonic Society, NI Opera, the University of Ulster choir and TOSINI (Teachers of Singing in Ireland), to mention a few. Funky Flamenco Flamenco NI is dedicated to increasing awareness of flamenco across Northern Ireland by providing classes in dance, guitar and singing by bringing authentic flamenco teachers and performers to the area.

Storytelling and Song

“The Mountains, the Stories and the People” Celebrate the heritage of the Mourne area with Storytelling and Music. Renowned Storyteller Steve Lally and Singer-Songwriter Brendan Devlin, “The Tall Men”, will be performing a unique and captivating show featuring songs, poetry and stories from the Mournes and County Down. A Night of Music Tonight will be full of music, storytelling and humour with Ivan Black, Crawford Bell and the Banbridge Ladies Community Choir. There will be music from The Beatles, Abba, Rock ‘n’ Roll, some Country and Irish music along with songs from the West End shows including Les Miserables.

Friday Night Jazz with Linley Hamilton

Linley has been part of the Irish music scene for over twenty years and since then he has juggled a career as a trumpet player with being a BBC Jazz Broadcaster and as educator with Making Music Workshop. There have been many career highlights in the past with significant performances or recordings with Paul Brady, Van Morrison, Foy Vance,

Eleanor McEvoy, Jacqui Dankworth and Gareth Dunlop to name a few, but he is working just as hard as ever these days and is celebrating success with his own recent album “Taylor Made”. Tapestry of Colours is an emotive feature length documentary produced and directed by artist and filmmaker Zhenia MahdiNau, which explores the fusion of cultures in Northern Ireland and reveals the truth behind modern immigration in Northern Ireland and the impact on a society which has undergone radical demographic changes in recent years. Craft Fair

Saturday 26 October

Craft in the Park Creativity comes to the fore with the annual Craft Fair which will include exhibitors from across Northern Ireland and further afield. They will showcase jewellery, furniture, ceramics, glassware and more. Craft demonstrations of traditional instruments will be taking place throughout the day. There will be children’s entertainment and live music throughout the fair. There will also be the education vehicle from the Southern Waste Management Partnership with children’s drop-in workshops. Come along and make some spooky Halloween creation or design your own weird and wonderful monsters!

Analysing Cubism - A Celebration of Irish Art Analysing Cubism is a wonderful celebration of Irish art, looking at the work of pioneering Irish artists who travelled to France and the Workplace further afield to study modern art. The exhibition seeks to place these artists in context, examining the influence of their teachers, as well as exploring the work of some of the leading international exponents of Cubism. This very popular exhibition,
