The region is well known for its many Artists and Makers and during the event visitors have the opportunity to view their work, purchase or commission a unique piece or try their hand in a workshop. Late Night Arts Tour Join us for an evening bus tour with a difference! Hop on the late-night Art Bus to visit some of our Creative Peninsula Open Studios for an insight into how local products are made. Enjoy nibbles or a glass of wine/craft beer at each location and an opportunity to chat to artists and makers and maybe even buy a unique hand-crafted gift.

Adele Pound 12-1pm Forest Baubles Adele Pound will be making handmade paper bird decorations. Rosy Ennis 12-1pm Collagraph (Making and Printing) Rosie Ennis will make a collagraph block using various paper textures glued to the surface. Wee Yarn Designs 1-2pm Dorset Button Making Debbie McCann will demonstrate the heritage craft of Dorset Button making with an opportunity to have a go. Ray Elwood 1-2pm Line and Wash Drawing and Watercolour Wash Ray Elwood will demonstrate that the drawing remains stronger than the colour. Jan Campbell 2-3pm Jan Campbell will show the entire process of silk painting from nude silk to finished piece, demonstrating a range of techniques as the piece progresses.
Wood Turning Alfresco Afternoons On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 August be inspired with our Alfresco Art programme featuring afternoon demonstrations.
The Irish Wood Turners’ Guild will carry out demonstrations in the picturesque courtyard and also guide individual artists and makers. There will be a range of free demonstrations throughout the afternoon of different techniques including lathe work and hand carving. Beautifully crafted items will be on display from bowls to sculptures and hand carved to machined.
Artists and Makers Take this unique opportunity to interact with Artists and Makers who will be providing free demonstrations throughout the afternoon. You can also explore the collection at North Down Museum, visit the Creative Peninsula exhibition and enjoy a coffee at Coffee Cure!
The beautiful location of the Courtyard at North Down Museum, Castle Park is the backdrop for two afternoons of hand crafted wood and art and craft demonstrations in many mediums.

11 PORTRAIT DRAWING WITH LOIS HELEN BELL Tue 7 Aug 1pm – 4pm Fee £15 In this portrait drawing workshop facilitated by Lois Helen Bell, participants will learn how to add life to a subject; including detailing composition, proportion and creating depth. Participants can either bring a table top mirror to draw a self-portrait, or can draw a fellow class participant sitting next to them. Suitable for improvers. Participants are required to bring materials in the medium of their choice, as well as paper or a sketch book and a table top mirror or photographs if drawing a self-portrait.

FRAMED PAPERCUT BIRD WITH PAULA BATT Sat 4 Aug 10.30am – 3.30pm Fee £40 – Materials included Come along to this relaxed and fun papercutting workshop where you will learn how to draw and hand cut your very own papercut bird using a scalpel to create a colourful framed piece for your home. You will have a choice of original designs by Paula Batt to choose from such as: Blue-tit, Kingfisher, Goldfinch, Robin or Song Thrush. Suitable for beginners. Please note that you will need good dexterity for scalpel use, due to the pressure needed to cut.
LANDSCAPE: FULL SKIES, LOW FOREGROUNDS WITH RAY ELWOOD Mon 6 Aug 10am – 4pm Fee £25 All types of compositions require light, especially landscape. Light creates contrast and harmony. This workshop will show the participants the beauty of warm and cool contrasts. Participants can work in any medium. Suitable for all levels. Photographs, prints and magazine cut outs will be provided for you to work from, however participants are required to bring materials in the medium of their choice, as well as paper or a sketch book.
Adele Pound will lead participants through a series of short drawing exercises designed to highlight the skills for sketching a moving object such as wildlife. In this fun taster workshop with Sharon Regan, you will create a little 3D portrait of your beloved pet or favourite animal in air drying clay. You will learn how to craft character and personality in your clay creation – creating a likeness is easier than you think! You will also find that working with clay is a wonderful way to relax and de-stress.
Learn how to make your very own drawing and colouring pencils from natural twigs which have been collected from local woodlands. They also make charming presents for friends and family. Easy to create with the right tools and instruction, and once you know how you can make as many as you want in the time available during the workshop.

Make a pretty little pair of copper wrens, each perched on their own large, wooden, door knob plinths.
This is an energetic workshop, designed to advance observational skills, and drawing confidence.
With an introduction to working with wire, participants will learn what tools to use, what wires are available and how to choose your wire. You will also learn how you can experiment with ingredients in your kitchen cupboard to create stunning patinas on copper.
Suited to both beginners and improvers, the day will progress from short poses and gestural warm-up exercises, to long poses allowing for more developed study of the female nude. Through guided exercises, participants will consider the formal concepts of figure drawing; proportion, tone and form, and composition and relational space.

Drink and Draw Drink and Draw makes a welcome return to this year’s Creative Peninsula. Drink and Draw found popularity in New York in recent years and now the trend has been imported to the UK. True to its name, this is an art class for both seasoned scribblers and clueless beginners – but in an unconventional setting and with a glass of your favourite tipple! Join professional artists and Seacourt Print Workshop members Clinton Kirkpatrick and Shauna McGowan for a fun, relaxed and social evening for those who love to draw. CRYSTAL TREES Sat 11 August 1pm – 4pm In this workshop we will be making a crystal tree which will then be attached to a beach stone. Once finished a salt and vinegar patina can be added that will turn the copper green creating a lovely effect. £22 including materials and refreshments

In this 3-week workshop we’ll knit an improvised jumper or cardi to explore ideas of independence, anticommercialism, and self-expression inspired by the punk movement. This is suitable for people with some knitting experience. You will get help with all the skills required to complete the project, but you will need to knit outside of class times to finish the project.
Explore the process of spinning using colourful fibres to produce your unique yarn. Learn the process of carding, drafting and spinning. Suitable for beginners or those wishing to improve their techniques.
