Business Administration

Business administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike; from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector. The role may involve working independently or as part of a team, developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. Business administrators develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression.

The business administrator is expected to deliver their responsibilities efficiently and with integrity. The role involves demonstrating strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and adopting a proactive approach to developing skills. The business administrator is also expected to show initiative, managing priorities and own time, problem-solving skills, decision-making and the potential for people management responsibilities through mentoring or coaching others. The apprenticeship includes:

Skills - IT, record and document production, decision making, interpersonal skills, communications, quality, project management, planning and organisation.

Knowledge - the organisation, value of their skills, stakeholders, relevant regulation, policies, business fundamentals, processes and external environment factors.

Behaviours - professionalism, personal qualities, managing performance, adaptability and responsibility.

Length

The apprenticeship will take 15-18 months to complete depending on experience. Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or comparable qualification) in English and maths. Please note, you will also be required to undertake an initial assessment prior to enrolment in order to assess your current level of English and maths. Your interviewer will discuss with you what minimum level you will need to achieve at initial assessment.

Whilst your technical skills and knowledge will develop over the course of your apprenticeship you will also need to demonstrate to potential employers that you possess the relevant skills and personal qualities and are willing to work and learn.

Progression

The administration role may be a gateway to further career opportunities, such as management or senior support roles.
