When you have a session with me, plan to laugh and show me your “life.” Whether your “life” is just you, a significant other or your family. I want to bring that out in these images. I capture the emotion of you in my images. When I capture your loved one laughing, I want you to hear that familiar laugh when you look back at the image.

My sessions generally involve a few posed shots and the remainder is very organic and playful. Although these moments I am helping you create seem reactive on my part, I assure you they are well thought out. Don’t worry if you think you are unphotogenic or awkward, I have a way of making individuals relax and open up to show me their “life.”

Tips for a fabulous wardrobe •
Where to start? Start with just one outfit and then build from there. When dressing my family for a shoot I start with a patterned dress of some sort for one of my daughters and then pull colors from there for the rest of us.

Look around your home, particularly the rooms you plan to hang these beautiful images. What colors would match these rooms? That is always a great place to start. Primary colors or versions of them are always a good starting point too. For example: Sky Blue, Burgundy or Pinks and Mustard yellow are versions of primary colors that build richness to your images. I prefer not having a medley of just blues and greens too as it tends to blend into the summer and give a “cool” vs “warm” effect to your images

Be Comfortable. If you are uncomfortable during your shoot, it may be conveyed with awkwardness in your images as well. Being comfortable doesn’t mean wearing jammies to your shoot, but don’t try to wear shoes that you would never wear and can’t walk in or that aren’t your style. Clothing that is too tight that you can’t move around in is not a solid choice either

Shy away from matching. It’s always tempting to put your kids in the same outfits, but for your photoshoot try to find something that is corresponding and NOT matching. It will help to separate each person
•
Think TIMELESS when choosing your wardrobe
•
Please avoid Neons or Graphic Tees. Graphic Tees take away the “timeless” aspect of your images and Neons can sometimes reflect color onto your face
•
Layers always look good and add another dimension to your outfit. A Layer could be as simple as leg warmers/boot socks, a scarf or bubble necklace to a vest or suspenders/bow tie. Layers can also be helpful when dealing with unpredictable weather. If you have shorts or dresses picked out for your children and the day of the shoot is too chilly, then a sweater, scarf or tights and boots will tie in perfectly. On that same note, you may not want to put your family in long sleeves or sweaters in the summer and have them sweating through the shoot

Wear clothes that fit. As a mother of 3 growing girls, I know how tempting it is to buy a size up so that it will last a whole season. For a photoshoot there is nothing worse than a dress falling off a little girl’s shoulders or pants that don’t stay up whatsoever on your son. When purchasing an item for your session, choose the size that fits perfectly now. For parents, consider a size smaller for jackets, cardigans or blazers to help compliment your shape and give a tailored look to your outfit

SHOES. Don’t stop once you have the outfits picked out. You’re forgetting the shoes! Shoes complete an outfit and can be a statement piece or cater to someone’s personality. It’s not a good look when your kid is looking amazing in kickin skinny jeans with suspenders and a great cardigan with elbow patches and then white socks and dirty old tennis shoes. It needs to be fluent

Session Duration: MOST Sessions generally last 60-90 minutes WITH THE EXCEPTION OF Engagement and Boudoir sessions, WHICH could take up to 2 hours. what does the Session fee cover: Session Fees secure your appointment and include the time and talent of Nessa Hendriksen. Sessions also include 5 Web-Sharing images (for posting only) and a proofing gallery featuring your images for print ordering. Sessions generate about 30 images. Color and a Custom Black & White are included in your online veiwing gallery. Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes. Engagement and Boudoir typically last about 2 hours additional fees: if you or the location of the session is more than 15 miles from my home in St. Charles, IL, an additional $25 Travel fee will be charged additionally. all Chicago Sessions will be charged A $40 travel fee.
