WelcomE FROM NETBALL NEW ZEALAND CEO The 2017 international season is poised to be an exciting one with the Gold Cost Commonwealth Games just around the corner. Netball New Zealand is pleased to welcome the Australian Diamonds, England Roses and South Africa’s SPAR Proteas to our shores for the Netball Quad Series, Taini Jamison Trophy and Constellation Cup. Netball, as New Zealand’s pre-eminent sport for women and girls, plays a vital role in helping shape lives and has reached beyond the sporting arena in its influence across many key areas of society. Netball is a fundamental part of New Zealand’s rich sporting legacy; it promotes confident, strong and talented leaders both on and off the court, and provides a platform for women to become influential leaders in many facets of life. Young netballers across the country dream of wearing the Black Dress – the next Maria Tutaia, Shannon Francois or Katrina Grant. Earlier generations have grown up watching Dame Lois Muir, Sandra Edge, Waimarama Taumaunu, Lesley Rumball, Irene van Dyk and Casey Kopua. Netball is a sport full of positive, healthy role models that youngsters can aspire to; while the popularity and numbers playing the sport at the grassroots continues to highlight and promote the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. On behalf of the New Zealand Netball community, I would like to acknowledge the tremendous support we receive from the media and our stable of partners – we are hugely appreciative of all you do for our game. There’s a feast of Netball coming your way in August, September and October and we can’t wait to showcase some of the world’s best in stadiums around the country!

Jennie Wyllie // NNZ Chief Executive

How the trophy is decided Win: 2 points Draw: 1 point* Loss: 0 points *only if match is unable to be completed

All matches must play to an outright result. If teams are tied on points at the end of the Series, the winner is decided by the greater goal percentage (calculated to two decimal places). Goal % = total goals scored / total goals scored against x 100 If the teams are still tied, then goal difference will decide their ranking. Goal difference = goals for – goals against (from all matches played) After goal difference, the highest number of goals scored for will determine the winner of the Netball Quad Series. In the event that both teams scored an equal number of goals, the series will be declared a draw.

TAINI JAMISON TROPHY

VS

TAINI JAMISON TROPHY Taini Jamison is an icon in New Zealand Netball - the first woman to coach a New Zealand team to victory in a World Cup, in 1967. So it’s only fitting that a trophy fought for by the best in international Netball bears her name. The Taini Jamison Trophy was introduced in 2008, to be contested when any netballing nation – other than Australia – plays the Silver Ferns at home. A Mango Pare (hammerhead shark) pattern features around the top and base of the trophy, signifying strength, tenacity, perseverance, stealth, keen senses and cunning – all the assets of a champion team. Taini Jamison’s Rotorua Netball Maori motif is front and centre, honouring an exceptional Netball personality and the perfect example of someone who gives back to the sport she loves.

TAINI JAMISON TROPHY

TAINI JAMISON TROPHY The Taini Jamison Trophy was created by Netball New Zealand in 2008 for competition between the Silver Ferns and touring international teams other than Australia.

The Constellation Cup is the perpetual symbol of intense rivalry between New Zealand and Australia, who have battled each other for Netball supremacy since 1938. Commissioned by the two national sporting organisations in 2010, the Constellation Cup captures the aspirations of each nation on the Netball court. Fashioned as a diamond encrusted, silver champagne chalice, the Cup stands for achievement, optimism and timelessness. The series to determine who holds the Constellation Cup is contested annually between the trans-Tasman rivals, with three to five matches played across both countries. The trophy was designed and manufactured by Australian Michael Wilson. The Constellation Cup is comprised of Sterling Silver, 101 white and champagne brilliant-cut diamonds and 5000-year-old ebonised ancient Murray River Red Gum. The display case was designed and crafted by Vic Matthews of New Zealand and is made of Black Maire, New Zealand’s hardest wood.

How the trophy is decided The Constellation Cup is a best of four series, played in October, with all matches requiring an outright result. If the Test Series is level with an equal number of wins to each country, the winner of the Series will be decided by the greater goal percentage (to two decimal places). Goal % = total goals scored / total goals scored against x 100 If the teams continue to be tied following the calculation of goal percentage, goal difference will be applied. If goal difference is not able to separate the teams, the highest number of goals scored for will be taken into account to ascertain the winner of the Constellation Cup.
