It is based on author Margaret Atwood's 1996 historical true crime novel and written and produced by Sarah Polley and is directed by Mary Harron (American Psycho, I Shot Andy Warhol) and writer/producer Sarah Polley (Take this Waltz, Away from Her).

Further insight into the book it was published in 1996, Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace was awarded the Giller Prize and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize as well.

 The six hour miniseries revolves around Gadon’s character Grace Marks, an Irish immigrant and maid who was declared guilty along with stable hand James McDermott, of a double murder of their employers in 1843. Thomas Kinnear, and his housekeeper, Nancy Montgomery, in 1843.
The 29-year-old actress is well known for her work like A Dangerous Method, Cosmopolis, and Maps to the Stars films directed by Canadian David Cronenberg.
