BETTER, TOGETHER
Good Things Brewing: UNG Members Support for Worthy Durham Initiatives
Uxbridge Fall Fair fundraiser through Celebrity Server Event at Boston Pizza Uxbridge
Boston Pizza, Uxbridge, was proud to host the Uxbridge Fair Celebrity Server Day. The Fair has been a part of our community for a long time and we are honoured to be able to help fundraise for the event. Through our Celebrity Server program, we donate 10% of all our sales, from 11 am to 9 pm, to this great community cause.
With the Fair board team being the celebrities serving and seating patrons along with supporters we, as a team, were able to raise $1000 from revenue and an additional few hundred from raffles.
We look forward to working with the Uxbridge Fall Fair Board team in the future and continuing to support local community events.
100 Women Who Care Raise Almost $10,000 for the Uxbridge Public Library
The Uxbridge chapter of the 100 Women Who Care initiative has outdone themselves yet again! This time, they’ve raised $9,770 for the Uxbridge Public Library, who will use these funds to support a continuing robotic program for seniors that began with a one year grant from New Horizons. This training, known as STEM training, will teach seniors how to use coding to program robots to do simple movements. More than teaching robots to dance, the STEM program also provides a social outlet for seniors, while teaching them new skills that will support mental vitality and cognitive function. A worthwhile cause, to be sure! You can learn more about this program by dropping into the library or visiting the library website http://uxlib.com/programs.
UNG member Andrea Scowcroft of White Glove Virtual Assistant is one of the co-founders of 100 Women Who Care and on July 12th, she presented a cheque to Jennifer Thorson and Corrinne Morrison of Uxbridge Public Library. To date, Uxbridge’s 100 Women Who Care has raised over $281,000 for local charities. Learn more about 100 Women Who Care by visiting their website www.100womenuxbridge.com.
Uxbridge Pharmasave’s Sameer Remtulla Supports Durham’s Community
After vandals defaced Bomanville’s rainbow crosswalk, the Second Wedge Brewery and UNG member Sameer Remtulla and owner of Pharmasave Uxbridge Medical Pharmacy & Home Health Care Centre stepped up to stand against intolerance. He will be matching donations raised from sales of the brut IPA Love is Brutiful, made specially by Uxbridge’s Second Wedge Brewery in collaboration with Bowmanville brewing company Manantler as a show of support for the LGBTQ2 community. 50 cents from each bottle sold of this limited-edition beer will go towards the peer-to-peer PFLAG Canada Durham Region, a support organization for Canadians struggling with issues of sexual orientation. Sameer is a proud member of the Uxbridge community and has sponsored other events such as the Hike for Hospice, train rides for kids at the Uxbridge Canada Day festivities, a community Christmas skate night, and is a proud supporter of GRID’s mission to build a hospital in Ghana. To buy a bottle of Love is Brutiful, visit Second Wedge Brewery at 14 Victoria Street, and while you’re there, raise a glass to Sameer!
