Uxbridge 150 Years Ago

CELEBRATING CANADA AS A COMMUNITY

Having lived in Canada for over 35 years - first as a foreign student, then as an immigrant - Canada is dear to my heart. I grew up in Hong Kong when it was still a British Colony, so I’ve been influenced by eastern and western multiculturalism, as well as by an economy driven by entrepreneurs and small businesses, and founded by many immigrants, including my parents.

In 1980, when I had the opportunity to go abroad to pursue higher education, I decided on Canada. Their world acclaimed peacekeeping missions, diversity, and quality of education made it my uncontested country of choice. By 1989, I was a proud Canadian citizen.

As Canada celebrates 150 years of Confederation, we dedicate this issue of our magazine to showcasing Uxbridge’s anticipated events and activities. Festivities like the Rotary Club’s Big Band Dinner and Dance, The Great Canadian Uxperience, a euphony of performances by Uxbridge’s award winning choirs, the annual Canada Day party in Elgin Park – which features the first ever parade – as well as the Canada-themed Uxbridge Fall Fair will make our town a hub of activity for residents and visitors.

In addition to these events, initiatives like the Active 150 and tree planting challenge serve to enrich our planet and bodies, and the Scugog Island Pow Wow reminds us that there were people who called this land their home for thousands of years before Confederation.

Take the time to celebrate living in this exceptional country with our remarkable community.

Sincerely,
