Things to know Antitrust policy

When you get back

It is the policy of the Network of Executive Women (NEW) to strictly comply with all applicable antitrust laws. Some of the members of NEW work for competing companies. It is essential that competitors avoid any discussions that could violate antitrust laws. Examples of topics that cannot be discussed by competitors are: Prices; other terms of sale; market shares; labor, production or raw material costs; production levels or curtailing production; customer allocation; market allocation; boycotts of certain customers or suppliers; and “punishing” certain competitors for marketplace activities such as offering lower prices or stealing customers. In addition, there may be other industry-specific prohibited topics. Your company’s lawyers can provide more information. Do not allow yourself to be used as a conduit for prohibited discussions between competitors. Prohibited discussions should not take place anywhere — in meetings, social events, hallways, restrooms or elsewhere. If a competitor initiates a discussion of a prohibited topic, terminate the conversation immediately and blame “the lawyers” if necessary. If you are unsure about a particular conversation, terminate it and seek clarification from your company’s lawyers.

Leadership Lab III:

Peer coaching

Wednesday, July 24 | 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm Choose your own partner and location

The goal of this one-to-one session is to help you have an authentic and courageous conversation about your life and career and help you shape your leadership action plan during the Leadership Lab IV action planning session on Thursday at 10 a.m. Enter the conversation with courage and an open mind. Examine the choices you will need to make to be a bold and authentic leader. Use these tools to ensure a stimulating, two-way dialogue: Observation (active listening); interpretation and feedback (follow up to gain a deeper understanding); application (ask thought-provoking questions); and accountability (how motivated are you and what action steps will you take?).

Starter questions 1. Do you feel like you can bring your whole self to work? 2. Do you ever feel like an imposter? 3. What bold agenda would you advance if you had no fear? 4. Are you serving as a champion for the next generation of women? 5. Have you built strategic relationships that help you be bold and authentic in your career and life? 6. What advice would you give to a girl or young woman on how to be bold and authentic? 7. What does being bold and authentic mean to you? 8. When has being authentic at work helped you be a better leader? 9. What do you want to accomplish in your career? 10. What have you learned at the Forum that will help you be a better leader?

Opening keynote The Transformational Power of Believing in Yourself

Mindy Grossman, CEO and Director, HSN Inc. Mindy Grossman believes you can’t play it safe if you want to drive real change and make a lasting impact. Grossman knows what she’s talking about: She’s the dynamic, risk-taking head of the $3.2 billion HSN Inc. consumer brand empire and one of Forbes magazine’s World’s 100 Most Powerful Women. Grossman believes women leaders need to sacrifice the lure of short-term security to take risks, defy convention and fuel their real passion. In this powerful keynote, she’ll share the principles that have made her one of the most successful innovators in consumer retailing today. Wednesday, July 24 | 9:00 am – 9:45 am

Keynote address Stop Expecting Order: The Uncertain, Unpredictable, Uncomfortable Nature of Leadership

Laysha Ward, President, Community Relations, Target Corporation Who said things are more orderly (and less scary) at the top of the organizational ladder? In this inspirational keynote, Laysha Ward challenges our desire for order and predictability, and shares how her personal journey helped her embrace the uncertainty, opportunity and fear inherent in meaningful leadership. You’ll learn that resilience, adaptability and grit are as important as anything on your resume — and that letting go of your expectations is exactly when serious leadership starts becoming fun. Wednesday, July 24 | 3:45 pm – 4:30 pm

Evening at the Forum A Conversation with Muhtar Kent

Trudy Bourgeois, CEO and Founder, The Center for Workforce Excellence Muhtar Kent, Chairman and CEO, The Coca-Cola Company The greatest driver of retail business in the 21st century will not be China, India or another growing economy — it will be the world’s women, according to Forum guest of honor Muhtar Kent. Closing keynote The Power of Passion

Geena Davis, Actress and Founder, The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media She’s played a runaway housewife, a trailblazing female ballplayer and Commander in Chief. But the most important role played by Academy Awardwinner Geena Davis may be her role starting See Jane, a foundation devoted to gender equity in media. Leadership Circles Entering the C-Suite: Taking Your Seat at the Table

Brad J. Davidson, President, Kellogg North America and Senior Vice President, Kellogg Company Research shows that women tend to be mentored, while men are more often sponsored. While mentoring’s important, success at the senior level requires senior-level sponsorship. Do you know how to cultivate and maximize a senior-level sponsor, ask for what you want and leverage the credibility, clout and access that a sponsor can provide? This Leadership Circle will answer these questions and give you a blueprint for building strong and lasting strategic relationships. Point Vicente 1 How to Win Amid Chaos and Change

Janel Haugarth, Senior Vice President and President, Independent Business and Supply Chain Services, SUPERVALU Inc. Constant change is the new normal. Market disruption is a given. And organizational shakeups are a way of life. In this session, you’ll learn how to not just cope with change, but leverage it to create exciting new opportunities for yourself, your team and your organization. Led by an industry veteran who’s sailed through many business storms, this Leadership Circle will help you make chaos and change your ally. White’s Point 1 Navigating the C-Suite: Politics Is Not a Dirty Word

Suzan Kereere, Senior Vice President and General Manager, National Client Group, American Express Interpersonal dynamics at the c-suite level can be characterized by power plays, hidden agendas, conflict and manipulation. Small wonder that many leaders — especially women — avoid workplace politics. But in this Leadership Circle, you’ll learn to view workplace politics as a leadership opportunity. See how to draw on your talent for collaboration and inclusion to redefine politics in your organizations. And leave with insights on how to newonline.org

Sessions change the rules of the game and establish authentic interpersonal relationships. Point Vicente 3 Critical Capabilities for Today’s Leaders

Nina Leigh Krueger, President, Golden Products Division, Nestlé Purina PetCare Company Highly effective leaders share common traits: They are lifelong learners. They surround themselves with people who tell them the truth. They build teams they trust and empower them to act. Effective leaders remain open, humble, even vulnerable — and these trusting qualities are even more essential as a leader advances and must rely more and more on others. While some might view vulnerability as a sign of weakness, effective leaders know it is the key to success. This Leadership Circle will give you a new perspective on the leadership qualities you need to stay relevant in a changing business world. Point Vicente 2 Women Supporting Women: Forging Authentic Connections

Ancella Livers, Senior Faculty, Center for Creative Leadership Some female executives have been so busy trying to succeed in male-dominated leadership cultures they’ve forgotten to support other women. It’s time for women to come together and take greater responsibility for each other’s success, and this Leadership Circle will explain how. You’ll explore ways to forge authentic connections that evolve into meaningful partnerships and learn to mentor and sponsor other women, avoid the “queen bee” trap and lift and pull the next generation of female leaders. White’s Point 2 Using Your Power Authentically

Kim Rucker, Executive Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs, Kraft Foods Group Inc.

inclusion and long-term success. And you’ll leave knowing how to serve as an authentic ambassador of cultural change. Rocky Point 2

Starting from Nothing: What It Takes to Fulfill Your Destiny

Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Executive Vice President, Artistic Director, OPI Products Inc. Building a business isn’t about where you work, but how. In this Leadership Circle, you’ll learn how to be an entrepreneur inside your own organization — from fashion icon Suzi WeissFischmann, the famous “First Lady of Nails.” You’ll get the secret to thinking and acting like an entrepreneur and strategies that will help increase your influence and get your ideas accepted. If you have great ideas that are not getting traction in your organization, this session is for you. Rocky Point 1

In a world that often seems to reward conformity over courage and complacency over action, how do you stay true to what you stand for and still get ahead? In this Leadership Circle, you’ll learn how to stand firm to your convictions without sacrificing your self-interest or becoming an outsider in your organization. Crystal Cove | Morning session only Organization Transformation: Leading Cultural Change

Aidan Tracey, President, Acosta Mosaic Group, Acosta Sales & Marketing It’s hard to change yourself — it’s really hard to change your organization. In this Leadership Circle, you’ll hear why it’s critical to change the culture of your organization if you want to effect real change. You’ll learn proven strategies to overcome barriers and respond to naysayers. Hear why women leaders have a unique opportunity to shift the focus of your corporate culture from internal competition and short-term results to a culture of newonline.org
