chinatown re creation c enter william fox

The given site for this recreation center sits at the edge of the Chinatown neighborhood in Boston. It mediates different scales. It addresses the smaller scale of the street it faces, and the larger scale of the larger infrastructural network it looks out upon and that looks upon the site. This approach uses different material logics to define different experiences in the project. The first level of the street is stereotomic, while the main swimming pool uses is tectonic and sits above the lower levels. Bridging these two is an intermediating level that has its own language and transitions the user from one experience to the other. The addition of a running track into this intermediate system acts as a belt, that holds the project together, as many of the different parts attempt to gain dominance in the project.
