Urban Site Plan
School Design The design consists of two interlocking volumes, one housing the service and repetitive program, and the other consisting of either public or visible spaces. The distinction between the two volumes is created by materiality, subtle misalignments and the use of voids. Punctured floor plates, variable heights, curtain walls and visual connections characterize the open volume. Its purpose is to create a dialogue with the two streets directly in contact with the site. The studio bar hovers over Summer Street, creating a threshold between two different urban fabrics; the auditorium bar pushes out making itself visible from the ground level; the central bar is a connector between all spaces, and houses the main entrance. On the other hand, the closed bar is characterized by a dense envelope with punctured windows, repetitive floor plates and smaller spaces. Its function is to wrap around the open bar and provide its service spaces, as well as hidden program.
