ADDITIVE CLUSTER The concept behind the additive cluster is to arrange the performing arts disciplines so that they are both separated from and accessible to each other. The program clusters flow into the common/improvisation space. Grouping the performing arts spaces in this way also creates a sense of zoning.

Stacked performing arts spaces and other program serve to bound a central indoor courtyard. It reads as a subtractive concept because the courtyard and other discontinuities of the regular outer band appear to be carved out of an initial mass.

RESOURCES

COURTYARD/STACKED PROGRAM This scheme employs a “floating object” concept. Broken down program pieces are like islands on the expansive and uninhibited floor plate. Large program breaks through the floor plates and continues upward to become double-height.
