#Skyline #Sunset

Skyline and sunset was two factors which was mentioned quite often, so the proposal will be to take advantage of these properties.

Intergrating the museum into the skyline and to be able to take advantage of the sunset is the aim of the project. In order to this, the materiality of the facade is a key point. Right now, we have a heavy, opaque wall which interrupts the view which by making it transparent or translucent it creates a continuity to the view and gives a higher possiblity in attracting people who are close by walking.

Translucent facade allows the the view to come through the building and faintly out on the other side. Connecting the two sides of the river.

Complete transparancy of the building allows the building to be invisible as if it was inexisting.

The importance of transparency also is to emphasise on the natural beauty. By breaking down this solid wall, it allows the view of the other side of the Charles River where there are more green. Furthermore it will allow a great view of the sunset and sunrise from inside the building.

This is to site scale where we are incorporating a great part of the city into consideration yet to aim for the locals to enjoy a beautiful Massachusetts.

Reflective material as a facade can allow reflection of the view on one side, creating a larger panorama.

Museum of Science located on the edge of Boston and Cambridge, lies ontop of Charles River and adjacent to big roads and several parks. Working on a site which had poor access, poor visuals and simply unattractive was an easy starter for the project. Then being given a topic such as network and developing an idea through social media, specifying in instagram photograph helped me bring the project together to come up with one design. Focusing on the skyline and the identity of Boston brought me to this concept of blending the buildings into the skyline and allowing the museum to be a part of and a representation of Boston identity in culture. In order to do this the geometry needed some hierarchy hie to its height, so creating small scaled skyscrapers on a plynth was how it carried out. The plynth was extruded out of the bridges on site and the small towers were taken out from the existing skyscrapers. The intention was to bring people close to the site so it created a hotspot of people posting images of boston where the museum blended into the scenery. Not only that, how Boston was framed from inside the museum was also important too which is where the materiality plays a big role as well as the height. transparent from inside and sometimes reflective on the outside is what was needed to create this instagram moment.
