Innovation Incubator \ Patrick Scullion / Masters Thesis \ Spring 2017
Our research shows that individual makerspaces are used by unique demographics. Relevant demographic categories include age, economic status, education and experience level. Dissimilar demographics have dissimilar backgrounds, and knowledge bases. Innovative ideas may arise when these different demographics and perspectives interact. Architecture can encourage unexpected physical and visual interactions between people who wouldn’t otherwise meet. This project seeks to maximize these interactions to create a makerspace that will act as an incubator for innovation.
STEP 1: Invite a variety of demographics into the makerspace.
STEP 2: Employ an architecture that maximizes physical and visual interactions to create opportunities for innovation.
