CRISTINA DE ICAZA QUINONES ROBERTA MENDOZA GALLEGO SPRING 2020 ARCH 5220 PROF. DAVID FANNON

Today water poses the paradox of excess and scarcity. Using it as the main element this project celebrates, recycles and alleviates related issues. The ambition is to mitigate floods, infiltrate water into the aquifer and collect rainwater through landscape and building design. The building’s interiors are adaptable to various sizes, to be able to provide for different needs in the future; extreme scenarios were taken into account to be able to design this flexible framework.

SCENARIO I -THE NEW HOPEMUSEUM/ART SPACE

SCENARIO II -RELIANCEINSTRUCTIONAL

- Tight temperature and humidity control - Luxury building - Balance between water, greenery and path, - Public exterior spaces - Double height spaces allowed: around the landscape - Fertile soil and appropiate temperatures that allow food harvesting - Population increase - Ground transportation available - Development of local market and small businesses - Really strict eggress requirements - Economical growth: people invest in art - VAV system - People mainly walk, or drive tricycles - Extra ventilation will be needed as the heat pump

sons. No walking on the site during these seasons. - Plants drowning. Only survives the ones that are resistant to water - Public transportation only - Each classroom has to be acoustically isolated - Each classroom needs to have different adjustable light levles

-Seismic Resistence -A geo-exchange heat-pump system can use a pond as the heat source/heat sink receives the most direct sunlight. (A

-Extra waterproof shear walls - No local businesses. - Need to separate uses (Acoustic vs Fire) - Various zones can be conditioned by several individual heat pumps

SCENARIO III -SUNKRESIDENTIAL FORTRESS

- Need building - Only wealthy people can afford this - Socialization is limited to digital means - Individual control of heating, cooling and ventilating for each unit

- No transportation. It can be exited by boat only. No street access - Security to enter building, and extra to enter each unit. (They are completely digitalized and access will be thorugh face recognition) - VRF system
