MANIFESTO Integrated design is best understood as a way to tap into the characteristic functions of a combination of strategies. The design must use each material optimally, using its natural attributes to serve as many needs as possible. The design must be adapted to the site, using daylight, weather, wind, urban setting, and exterior spaces, not just preventatively, not just for aesthetics, but equally as tools to augment the functionality and experience of the design. The design must find synergies between structure and partition, interior and exterior, enduring and ephemeral, between the traditional and the unexpected.

FUTURE SCENARIOS + STRATEGIES FUTURE SCENARIOS + STRATEGIES
1: COMFORT ZONES
2. SINGULARITY
3. INSULAR WORLD
4. LEVELED LIFE
Deterioration of climate, unconditioned spaces are now uninhabitable; Life is lived exclusively indoors
Technological advancement renders interior conditioning systems obsolete; government funded climate conditioning of vast areas is the norm
Technology grows rapidly, and machines now think and act autonomously; systems need to be replaced constantly and life revolves around advancement
Society responds to a harsh, deteriorating world by turning inward; all aspects of life go digital and all inhabitants are largely self-sufficient
Capitalism ceases to exist and universal wealth, healthcare, and housing become standard; higher education becomes a central fixture of society
Interstitial zone becomes a more conditioned, closed, and vital occupiable space; building inhabitants will stay nearly exclusively inside
Interstitial zone stays open, deconditioned; building inhabitants expected to be more transient, building fenestrations can regularly remain open
Building floor plans expected to be more open, with larger shells containing rotating systems and program; systems within CLT floor panels frequently replaced
Inhabitants of building expected to remain indoors; building will likely need to accomodate multiple uses
Buildings may form a kind of microcampus with mixed residential and educational uses present in plan

CONNECTED LIFE: As a result of the overthrow of capitalism, higher education becomes a universal, central fixture of society.
