Fernando Cordero



I am an architectural designer with experience in multiple design fields, including graphic design and media production. Throughout my career, I have collaborated with a diverse group of professionals to hone a expansive understanding of spatial design. My objective is to become a licensed architect who can contribute to the built environment in positive and interesting ways.


Dos Pinos Park

San Juan, Puerto Rico Design development for a park greening/ renovation initiative for an underserved community. The park incorporates a community center, playground areas, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts.

A series of terraces, sculptural canopies and trails create a layered landscape that interlocks green areas along a central promenade. The park experience is a sequence of exploration and discovery.


Casa FabrĂŠ

Guaynabo, Puerto Rico Design development and construction document production of private residence located in the outskirts of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Taking advantages of the views and terrain, the house sits on a slope and distributes itself along the natural topography of the site. The main structure

is divided in four pavilions which are joined by balconies, terraces, fountains and a pool. The house opens to the natural landscape maximizing the use of the natural resources for illumination and ventilation.


491 Fletcher Place New York, NY

Design development and production for apartment building with offices featuring convective heating and cooling with valences and domestic hot water generated from the air conditioning system. The building is continuously insulated on the exterior using various innovative

methods for maximum insulation performance. Planters are installed at the pop-outs on the long facade. Vines will grow to shade the street wall windows from western summer sun. A green roof garden welcomes tenants staff and visitors.



Faulkner Real Estate Offices Columbus, Ohio

Renovation of a neglected North High Street building into a working office space for a growing real estate business. Developed while at Neighborhood Design Assistance Center, a 501c(3) nonprofit

committed to assisting the development of disadvantaged neighborhoods. The client requested billboard like facade, meeting spaces and open offices.


Baruch College Early Learning Center New York, New York

Design for an expansion and rehabilitation of a child care center to accommodate 45 students. The philosophy and the curriculum of the program emphasizes an atmosphere of exploration for children and recognizes the primary importance of relationships

between children and the adults who care for them. For many children this is their first group social experience outside of their home and the Center seeks to make this transition as comfortable as possible.

299 & 228 East 3rd St New York, New York

Although not aesthetically innovative these East Village affordable apartment buildings were developed with passive house concepts. Units have air barriers, customized ventilation systems, continuous exterior insulation, rainwater management, room-by-room thermostatic

control and a heating system one fourth of the normal size. The innovations to these buildings were built for at no additional cost and set a new standard for health, safety, energy efficiency and durabilty.


Private Residence New York, New York

Residential renovation of unit in SOHO. Central organizing element developed to act as a datum for living functions.



Vanderbilt University Medical Center Nashville, Tennessee

Production for an addition to and renovation of Medical Research Building IV - Phase I and Phase II. The building houses state-of-the art laboratories for Vanderbilt’s medical research faculty.



ESPN

Bristol, Connecticut // Charlotte, North Carolina Set design, art direction and development work for ESPN broadcast programming: ESPNU Studio, ESPN Sportscenter, and

the statistics-oriented program Numbers Never Lie.


Academic

Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture Undergraduate senior thesis project. Developed and designed form generation based on genetic paradigms. The studio deployed computation as a generative engine to arrive at the construction of possible spatial experiences.
