On January 5th 2017 the Nevada FFA chapter sent 27 students to the Southwest District Greenhand Motivational Conference held in Springfield Missouri at the MSU campus. The event is put on by the 2016-17 Missouri State officers from the Southwest District. Over 4500 first year FFA members from more than 320 Missouri High Schools had the opportunity to learn about being positive role models, learning to get involved, making sound choices, becoming active team members and making a positive difference in their lives, school and community at the annual Greenhand Motivational Conferences. Through interactive workshops and skits the State FFA Officers encouraged first-year FFA members to explore their talents and reach outside their comfort zone for the opportunities provided through FFA membership. They helped the new agriculture students set goals for their education, careers, and FFA experience.

From the classroom to the farm to the boardroom, women in agriculture are helping to pave the way for a better future. As leaders, it is our responsibility to make sure the next generation of women are educated, encouraged and empowered to take on the challenges of meeting the world’s growing food, fuel and fiber needs. To help women in the United States connect with other women leaders in agriculture all across the country, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has established a women in ag mentoring network. HAVE AN AWESOME FFA WEEK!

National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana was so much fun! We took 15 kids this year on a tour bus with 4 other schools. With a total of about 50 kids! We learned a lot about Leadership and Agriculture from speakers such as Diana Nyad and Mike Pence. We also visited a Dairy farm and Career Show.

FFA helped out with the 2nd annual Heroes for Hunger 4k walk/run. There FFA volunteering at the customer appreciation day for Mid was over 20 participants. We raised over $700 for the local food pantry. It was not only a 4k run but, it was also the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Missouri Bank new sidewalk.

come the Mountain”. We met during the summer at our summer meeting to start things off. In August at the Back to School Social we got to know the incoming freshman. We discussed the many upcoming events and had many members, parents, and alumni in attendance. In October, we attended National Convention in Indianapolis with four other schools. We attended many leadership sessions, the American Degree Ceremony, and the Career Show. Our chapter has done two activities, our Annual 4k and Christmas Baskets to support and feed our local community. The chapter is super busy with lots of contests coming up. As the Spring gets started, we hope to have success with contests, state degrees, and proficiency awards. Stay tuned for more news from the El Dorado Springs FFA.

Northeast Vernon County FFA Week

FFA Week Dress-Up Days Monday - No School Tuesday - Patriotic Tuesday (The Flag) Wednesday - Down on the Farm or Camo Day (The Plow) Thursday - Throwback Thursday (The Owl) Friday - FFA Friday (Wear Blue and Gold or an FFA T-Shirt) & Muddy Truck and Tractor Day Each year, FFA chapters around the country celebrate National FFA Week. The week-long tradition began in 1947 when the National FFA Board of Directors designated the week of George Washington’s birthday as National FFA Week in recognition of his legacy as an agriculturist and farmer. The first National FFA Week was held in 1948. To kick off FFA Week, Northeast Vernon County will be hosting a Valentine’s Dance at Nevada Nursing and Rehab Friday, February 17th for the residents. They will be crowning a king and queen, as well as providing snacks. The following day the FFA Chapter will be going to Andy B’s in Springfield with the Wheatland FFA Chapter to enjoy a night out bowling, playing arcade games, and mingling with others. On Sunday of FFA Week, Northeast Vernon County FFA members will be attending Living Hope Ministries in Walker to rejoice together and show their pride in the FFA Organization. On Wednesday, February 22th, NEVC FFA Chapter will be hosting a Community Breakfast in the agriculture room. Beginning at 7:00 a.m. and lasting until 8:15 a.m., waffles, sausage, fruit, and beverages will be served to show appreciation for the support that the FFA Chapter has and continues to receive. On Friday, the FFA Chapter will host an assembly at school to educate other students about the organization and agriculture industry. National FFA Week is an opportunity for FFA members, alumni, and sponsors to advocate for agricultural education and FFA. It’s a time to share with local, state and national audiences what FFA is and the impact it has on members every day.
