Several members of the Nevada FFA chapter this year participated in Missouri fall speaking contests. During the Prepared Public Speaking Leadership Development Event, students choose a current agriculture-related topic to write about and deliver to a panel of judges. The speech was to be six to eight minutes in length and memorized. Judges scored based on the speech’s content, composition, and delivery. The first destination for the Nevada FFA was the Area 9 contest in Miller Missouri. The top students from this contest went to the
district contest. They were Mason Forker (MO Pork Producers), Natalie Neil (MO Sheep Producers), Cole Birch (MO Cattlemens), Allison Balk (Forest Products), Wade Hartman ( Farm Bureau), and Mariska Buehler (Quarter Horses). These six members continued on to Springfield to compete against top speakers from each area of Missouri. Mason Forkner and Natalie Neil qualified for the final round and Natalie Neil placed first, while Mason placed at the top for Pork, but was just shy of making it to state. A few weeks later, Natalie Neil was
awarded a plaque and cash prize as she spoke against the best of the best at the Margaritaville Resort in Missouri, and won the Sheep Producers State Speaking Competition. Fall speaking is an excellent opportunity for these students to grow into young leaders and to become great public speakers. So much hard work was put into these speeches and it really showed this year for the Nevada FFA chapter!
From the fall of 2022 to the fall of 2023 Cole Burch, Mason Forkner, Arianna Franklin and I competed in the Livestock Judging CDE in FFA. Our team went to the Missouri FFA state contest and we were in second place by one point. With being second the team qualified to go to the historical National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado. In January of 2023, the team went to compete in the NWSS and placed 8th out of some of the team and most competitive teams in the nation.
FFA Reporter
Students from the Nevada FFA chapter traveled to Indianapolis Indiana for the National FFA Convention on the 25th of October and returned home on the 29th. The trip consisted of agricultural tours, shopping, good food, and leadership sessions at the National FFA Convention. Students toured the St. Louis Arch, Anheuser Busch factory, St. James winery and vineyard, and a plastics factory that made drainage tile for farm land all over the United States. They enjoyed listening to speakers and gaining new life experiences. This trip was a great opportunity for students to meet with other members from FFA chapters from across the United States. They gained friendships and exchanged knowledge about SAE projects and chapter activities.

FAMILY TRADITION
By: Tackett Arnold
I know for a fact that I have gained more real life knowledge in FFA than in any other classes. I have learned all about how to do books and how to run a business and keep it afloat. And how to write speeches to do job interviews to get you the job. And how to speak in front of people the correct way and to not bore them with whatever you are talking about. I know I have gained a lot of practical knowledge that will help me later on in life like, welding, wiring, plumbing and fabricating which I know I will use later. My Dad was very involved in FFA and was the chapter president, but my mom on the other hand was not in FFA at all. It is nice to be able to tell her what we are doing, and be able to explain something to her that she has never
done before. I always try my best to inform them about any activities that are coming up or trips that I am going on. Because I feel like it is important to keep your family involved in what you are doing for activities especially in FFA because there is a lot going on. It is just amazing to me all the skills that I have learned through the FFA, and all the things that it will help me with. Just like I have said before it is nice to tell my parents about all the activities that we have going on so that way they are never behind, and It is nice to talk about the things that Dad did when he was president vs. the things that we do now. It is kind of nice to be able to compare the things we do now vs. back when he was in school.
SOCIETY WITHOUT AGRICULTURE
By: Kade Fast
Agriculture is very important to my life and this world that we live in today. If there wasn’t agriculture then how would we live? The people that make all of the food for us go unrecognized and it is just sad. If it wasn’t for these people that work day in and day out, sometimes through the night, then there wouldn’t be food for the world to eat. These people are so important that they should have something done for them to recognize their work. It would be nice to at least invite a handful of your local farmers and throw them a party. I mean, after all, that is the least we could do for the people that keep us alive with the work that they do. So much just goes unseen on how food gets to our table. Most people probably don’t even know the process. A lot takes place
with the farmer, they have to work the ground and plant the seeds. They then have to maintain the crop until it is ready to harvest. After maintaining the crop they have a lot of long days of harvesting everything that they planted. They then take this to market and it gets put on trucks to be shipped to the processing plant. Once it is done there it has to be packaged and shipped to the stores. Then it sits there waiting for us to buy it. That is how food gets to the people. All along people just think that it just appears on the self, like magic happened or something. So if you think that agriculture is not important then maybe you should sit down for a minute and really think about it because once you do you will realize just how important it is.

JUST ONE ORGANIZATION
By: Hannah Klaiber
FFA has simply meant my past, present and future. In most cases that would seem to be an extremely generic answer, but that’s the best way I can possibly explain it. My entire life has revolved around agriculture. I think of the times as a little kid I carried baby goats inside to warm them up in the harsh winter, watching calves frolic through the pasture on cool spring mornings, racing my siblings across the tops of hay bales, and the many times I sat on Dad’s lap driving the tractor in the blazing summer heat.
My childhood memories are built upon agriculture.
I carry those memories with me to this day as I find myself asking questions and expanding my knowledge in 3 different Ag classes this year. I walk into the ag building where I find a place that I most definitely desire to be in. I find a sense of belonging and in a weird way, a
sense of home. This year, I have had the honor of holding an office for our FFA chapter. It has been a wonderful experience and has become a big part of who I am. The most joyous times I have had throughout my high school career have been held behind the ag building doors.
Being in FFA has also impacted my future decisions dramatically. The first time I walked into the ag building my 8th grade year, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to be an ag teacher. Before that moment I was clueless in what I wanted to do. Then going into my freshman year and fully being a part of FFA simply wrote my career path in stone. I plan to make agriculture a part of my everyday life, (just as I have been) for the rest of my life. Now I look to my future with solid goals and confidence, all because of the impact of one organization.
