The Big Soup Share is a national intitiative from the RHS campaign for school gardening to avoid food waste and promote healthy home cooking. Students from all over the UK will be offering soup for sale made from surplus veg donated by local gardeners. In Newent, allotmenteers will be among the donors, and volunteers from Newent in Bloom will help cook the soup with help from young people from the Chill-Out Zone, most of whom are students at Newent Community school. A spokesperson from Newent in Bloom says “We will cook the soup at the Chill-Out Community Café and serve it warm on the morning of Saturday 12th October under the Market House. To allay any fears the soup cups used will be recyclable, thanks to a donation from Colin’s Italian Kitchen, so there’ll be zero waste. Please come along
