Spirit Cleaning Sermon Series
Part 1. It’s Cluttered
You cannot find what you are not looking for; the proof of your desires is in your pursuits.
Philippians 3: 12 NIV
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
God must be pursued.
Psalm 63: 1 NIV
1You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
What God has purposed your life to be must be pursued
Matthew 6:33
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
If you pursue things, you will get things but if you pursue God, you will get everything.
1. We must have a desire to acknowledge and address the clutter in our lives; Stop ignoring the mess.
Luke 10:41 NIV
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
1Peter 5: 7 NLT
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
Worries and Cares create Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Clutter
Romans 14: 23 NIV
But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.
2. The Fearful attracts what is Feared.
Job 3:25 NIV
What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.
1Timothy 1: 7 NIV
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and selfdiscipline.
3. You have what you need; it’s in the clutter
God always leaves you with seed, roots or foundation as a prophetic sign to your come back.
1Kings 17: 12 NIV
“As surely as the LORD your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”
2Kings 4: 2 – 4 NIV
2Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you?
Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”
3Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
You overlooked what's in your closet because of the clutter
4. You won't find what you have lost until you start to clean
2Kings 22: 8 – 11 NIV
8Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the temple of the LORD.” He gave it to Shaphan, who read it. 9Then Shaphan the secretary went to the king and reported to him: “Your officials have paid out the money that was in the temple of the LORD and have entrusted it to the workers and supervisors at the temple.” 10Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king.
11When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes.
The Book of the Law (God’s Word) was lost in His temple.
The church can be the very place you lose the Word that God has promised you
Revelation 2: 4 NIV
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.
