IT’S DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS Directed by Becky Hope-Palmer
Hull. 1965. Five young women from Hull decide to start a girl band.
Within months they are touring the local pubs and clubs and are soon asked to play for the US Troops in Germany. Leaving behind their jobs as cleaners, dental assistants and waitresses, the teenagers embark on their journey to 'freedom'. However, it’s soon clear the troops are more interested in the length of their skirts and if these girls want success they will have to bite their tongues and learn to live with it.
It’s Different For Girls is a brand new musical inspired by Hull’s own 1960s girl band, Mandy & The Girlfriends, that documents the journey of five young women as they challenge the music industry and prove that they are not just ‘good for girls’.

ASSISTED PERFORMANCES
OUR FACILITIES
Live Theatre offers a range of assisted performances aimed at improving the theatre experience for all our audience members. These services are marked with the appropriate symbol on the What’s On Calendar on pages 42 & 43 and are offered at no extra cost for service users and should not affect the performance for other audience members. British Sign Language A BSL interpreter is positioned on or next to the stage to communicate in a non-verbal language. Captioned The words spoken by the performers are displayed as text on a screen, on or next to the stage, similar to television subtitles. Audio Described A live commentary of the action on stage is described through personal headphones, between words spoken by the characters. Touch Tours To complement an audio described show, this is a hands-on tour of the set, describing props, costumes, characters and the visual style of the show, especially for visitors with visual impairments. Touch Tours are a separate event and have to booked separately. They usually take place an hour before the main performance. Internal Hearing Aid Systems An induction hearing loop system is available for all shows in the theatre for use with a visitors own hearing aid. The Theatre can also provide in ear monitors and receiver to amplify the sound on stage.

Please let Box Office know when booking that you plan to use the assisted interpretation, so they can ensure that you are seated in the most appropriate place.
