WHAT GIRLS ARE MADE OF Presented by RAW MATERIAL & TRAVERSE THEATRE COMPANY in association with REGULAR MUSIC Written & Performed by CORA BISSETT Directed by ORLA O’LOUGHLIN
‘ Life-changing litany of pure joy… Believe the hype.’
Based on Cora Bissett’s teenage diaries, 2018 Edinburgh Fringe hit What Girls Are Made Of charts the true story of her rollercoaster journey from 90s indie-kid hopeful to wised-up woman. Touring with Radiohead, partying with Blur, she was living the dream. Until she wasn’t. Cora celebrates life’s euphoric highs and epic lows, asking what wisdom we should pass to the next generation, and which glorious mistakes we should let them make. Performed with a live backing band, What Girls Are Made Of features a killer setlist studded with songs by 90s indie legends and inspirational female artists – from Nirvana to Dolly Parton to Patti Smith.

Voted one of the top theatre shows of 2018 by readers of The Guardian, hit production of Clear White Light returns to Live Theatre after a sellout run last year. ‘ powerful and quite extraordinary theatre’ THE CHRONICLE
‘a gem’
THE GUARDIAN
Clear White Light follows Alison, a student mental health nurse, on her first night shift on an all-male, locked ward. As she joins Rod’s hard pressed nursing team and the patients that they are there to look after, it becomes a night shift to remember. Alison soon learns the first rule: don’t wish out loud for a quiet shift... Set in the atmospheric surroundings of St. Nicholas’ Hospital in Gosforth, the play features the songs of Alan Hull of Lindisfarne – some of which were written at St Nick’s when Alan was working as a nurse there. The music is played and sung live by the actors, including former members of Lindisfarne, Ray Laidlaw and Billy Mitchell. Another chance to see this acclaimed Live Theatre production of a modern gothic drama, with Charlie Hardwick and Joe Caffrey reprising their roles.

TERROR FROM THE SKIES Written & Performed by MATTHEW BELLWOOD
It’s a warm summer’s day in the local graveyard. Hassan and Jake are skipping school and shooting the breeze, while Sheila and Joanne are tracing a shared history among the headstones. The trees are in leaf and the wild flowers bloom, while in the distance a light aircraft draws ever closer through the clouds. Unknown to all of them, terror is lurking in the sky. A new show about society, friendship and the things we hold dear about the places where we live. Told through storytelling – Terror From The Skies is thoughtful, intriguing and filled with warmth and humour, asking important questions about how much those in power know, or care, about our communities. The 1612 trial of Agostino Tassi for the rape of baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi is restaged by Fringe First and The Stage Edinburgh Award winning company Breach Theatre. ‘A soul-searching inquest into race, class and machismo… Beautifully told’ THE GUARDIAN (on SparkPlug)
Mike and Paul are mates. They drink, they smoke, they crack jokes. They kill time. Spanning half a lifetime, Under Three Moons takes place on three nights across three decades of two friends’ lives. From a school trip to France as teenagers, to a surf shack in their twenties, to Christmas in their thirties, Mike and Paul meet up and talk into the night. From boyhood to manhood to fatherhood, these are the nights they share. A new play about friendship and growing up, from the company that brought SparkPlug to Live Theatre, Under Three Moons explores how men relate to each other today. Who we are and how we live. Singer-songwriter Rod Picott whose music incorporates elements of Americana, alternative country, and folk, tours to support his new album Out Past The Wires. The twenty-two songs on the album range from whispery ballads to guitar driven rockers and every musical spot between. Rod is also releasing a book of short stories of the same name in which characters from the songs on the album find their stories expanded.
Americana folk band Birds of Chicago is led by husband and wife, JT Nero and Allison Russell (formerly of Canadian roots group Po’ Girl) whose music mixes moments of hushed attention with wild rock and soul abandon. Their new album Love in Wartime also confirms their rock and roll status evoking sounds of the 60’s and 70’s.

ERIN RAE AND THE MEANWHILES + SUPPORT
KIM RICHEY + JIMI MACK
Erin Rae and her band return to Newcastle as part of her European tour. Erin fuses musical genres to craft songs that feel fresh and wholly her own with influences that include traditional folk and indiecountry rock. She is stepping out into the spotlight with her second album Putting On Airs, a deeply personal record that reflects her own experience and upbringing in Tennessee.
Kim Richey is an American troubadour whose alt-country and even pop-leaning albums, have garnered critical acclaim and a worldwide audience. While she spends much of her time touring, as well as collaborating with writers and producers all over the globe, Kim dreams up fetching melodies that arc and bend in unexpected ways, with fresh angles from which to articulate matters of the heart.

MIKE FARRIS & HIS BAND + SUPPORT
SAM LEWIS + SUPPORT
A rare chance to see Grammy winning blues / soul / gospel / Americana star Mike Farris in concert for some selected UK band shows for the first time. Mike will fly in directly from the USA to perform a short UK tour and Jumpin’ Hot Club in Live Theatre, is luckily, one of them.
Nashville based Sam Lewis’ style meets at a juncture of many different genres with his rich soulful vocals, well-crafted songs, roots country and blue-eyed soul. However there’s something indescribably different and with his most recent works, Loversity, in which he’s discovered what most musicians spend lifetimes working for – the place where feel-good music meets vital social commentary.
