Iris
LOCATION: Main Theatre DURATION: 2hrs, including interval
A Live Theatre Production: World Premiere Written by Alison Carr Directed by Max Roberts
SUITABILITY: 14+ PERFORMANCES: Tues to Sun
No one’s touched the buffet, there’s a big gap on the wall where a mirror’s fallen off and something is stinking the place out. Julie and Ruby are sisters coming to terms with the death of formidable matriarch Iris who still manages to control their lives from beyond the grave. On the night of the funeral, Julie gets off with Gerry, the crime scene cleaner. Maybe that’ll help. It doesn’t. When their mother’s unusual bequest unearths a story that leaves some indelible marks, something more than a deep clean is needed. Iris is a heady cocktail of caustic humour and tender pathos from the writer of the hit 2015 Edinburgh show The Soaking Of Vera Shrimp (“achingly beautiful and utterly compelling” ★★★★ The Telegraph) and Fat Alice (“Carr sustains the bold premise through the vividness of her writing” ★★★★ The Times). Alison Carr was a winner of the 2013 40th Anniversary Live Theatre Bursary and is a member of the Traverse 50 group of writers. Iris is her first full length commission for Live Theatre. Supported by the Friends of Live Theatre. See page 31 for more information. SATURDAY 9 APRIL (after the 2pm show)

WORK-IN-PROGRESS DOUBLE BILL Lists for the preggers End of the World Written and performed By fanSHEN
by Amy Golding
What would life look like if it were broken down into a series of lists? Bucket lists, to do lists, lists of lost loves and found friends, lists of things said and not said, of things inherited from parents and of things we’re still looking for…
Directed by Laura Lindow and Rachel Glover
Remade for each new location using material contributed by people who live locally, Lists for the End of the World is an attempt to look at the everyday as a way of understanding our own humanity.
Amy is planning on becoming pregnant. Amy is planning a new theatre show. So why not combine the two? In preggers, Amy Golding explores what it means to become a mother for women now and for women of previous generations. Playful, political and quite possibly pregnant, preggers explores the central, universal themes of motherhood and family.

WEDNESDAY 10 FEBRUARY, 8PM
Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys (USA) + This Little Bird (UK) Michigan’s Americana roots quartet Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys display scintillating musical prowess, swapping instruments and harmonising almost effortlessly. Whilst bluegrass and folk are the Flatbellys’ roots and anchors, they soar above and beyond any strictures, with Lindsay Lou’s own phenomenal voice their trump card, reminiscent in its oftenjoyous abandon, of Eddi Reader or Lake Street Dive’s Rachael Price. DATE: Wed 10 Feb, 8pm

SATURDAY 27 FEBRUARY, 8PM
Christopher Paul Sterling (USA) + Archie Brown & Pat Rafferty (UK)
Hannah Johnson and the Broken Hearts (UK) + The Kentucky Cowtippers (UK)
Christopher Paul Stelling’s intricate finger-picking guitar style is coupled with lyrics that are both dramatic, and intensely confessional. His perfect melodic fingerpicking style is influenced in large part by blues legends such as Skip James and Abner Jay, masters like John Fahey, and banjo greats Dock Boggs and Roscoe Holcomb.
A set of Honky Tonk, Western Swing, classic ‘Old Country’, Blues and self-penned originals from Hannah Johnson and the Broken Hearts, an exciting new band made up of Hannah and Stewart Johnson of Toy Hearts, joined by King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys’ guitarist Chris Shirley, and Simon Smith on the double bass.
Also on the bill are local heroes Archie Brown and Pat Rafferty singing songs from their new album Elysian Fields.

LIVE STAND-UP
THURSDAY 2 & FRIDAY 3 JUNE, 8PM
Mark Watson: I’m Not Here Mark Watson (multi-award-winning star of numerous TV shows including Dave’s Road to Rio, BBC’s We Need Answers, Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week and Have I Got News For You, and his own cult Radio 4 series Mark Watson Makes The World Substantially Better and Mark Watson Talks A Bit About Life) returns with the follow-up show to his highly celebrated and successful ‘Flaws’. A seemingly minor problem at an airport is the starting point for a spiralling examination of identity in the digital age and search for meaning in our lives. But with an enormous number of jokes, luckily, as well as Watson’s customary flailing, chaotic audience interactions and all sorts of other fun. In short: if you like comedy, but you don’t come and see this, you’re acting very oddly.
