In collaboration with Òran Mór where the plays will begin, leading new writing company Paines Plough has commissioned new 45 minute plays that will tour to Edinburgh, Newcastle, Dublin and Belfast. Ali Muriel
Winner of Soho Theatre’s Westminster Prize in 2006 and Channel 4’s 4Talent Award for dramatic writing in 2008 Ali has had work performed at venues including the Globe Theatre, Soho Theatre, Glasgow’s Òran Mór and Live Theatre. His full length play ASHES won him a place on the Paines Plough/Channel 4 Future Perfect ‘08 scheme for emerging writers. Worried that, because of his life-long political convictions, he hasn’t got anything to leave to his sons and grandchildren. So, by joining the property owning democracy, Harry thinks he’s helping everyone out. Then the economic downturn gets in the way. Inheritance is a timely, comic and poignant exploration of how a worldwide recession impacts on the lives of ordinary people. This premiere production is the first for Live Theatre from this artistic team: Mike Packer is the writer of the hit comedy The Dysfunckshonalz (soon to be a feature film and set to open shortly in the West End). Lisa Goldman is the former Artistic Director of The Soho Theatre and new writing company The Red Room, which she co-founded. ‘I’m really pleased to introduce two new creative associates to Live Theatre: writer Mike Packer and director Lisa Goldman. The Live Theatre/National Theatre co-production opens at the Samuel J Friedman Theatre on Broadway, produced by the Manhattan Theatre Club by special arrangement with Bob Boyett. The play opens on Thursday 30 September and stars the original cast who have been with the production since it premiered at Live Theatre in 2007.
Following its run at Live Theatre this production is heading straight to the Citizens Theatre Glasgow, before returning to South Africa for a final run at the Market Theatre, Johannesburg.

Studio Theatre
A Night Less Ordinary
There is a car park in the Trinity Gardens complex 50 metres up the road from the Theatre, which can be accessed from City Road and Trinity Gardens. This is a secure 24 hour car park and costs 70p per hour and 25p per hour after 6pm. There is limited on street parking on Broad Chare and additional car parks nearby.
Live’s intimate Studio Theatre is located on the third floor and provides a flexible space ideal for rehearsed readings and acoustic music.
Live Theatre has joined forces with Northern Stage and the Theatre Royal to offer free tickets to help encourage more young people into theatre. To find out more visit:
Live Theatre is a 10 minute walk from Central Station, Monument and Manors Metro Stations. The Quay Link bus service runs every 10 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes during the evening until midnight providing a safe and easy way of getting to and from the Theatre. Seating Information Seats in the cabaret section of the Main House and all seats in the Studio Theatre can be pre-booked, but are unreserved and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Ticket numbers do not refer to a particular seat.
