ELEN FEINBERG

Anative of New York City, Elen Feinberg has lived and painted in New Mexico since 1978. Working primarily in oil, she uses subjects ranging from the landscapes of the desert Southwest to oceans, and from atmospheric events to interstellar phenomena. Although inspired and informed by the natural world, her paintings are not literal interpretations of the earth and sky, rather they are inventions intended to shift nature and the visual world from the concrete to the sublime.
Elen’s work is included in numerous museum and corporate collections in the US. She has held several artist-in-residence grants both here and abroad and she is the recipient of numerous awards from prestigious organizations such as the NEA, the Ingram Merrill Foundation, and the Fulbright Foundation.
Since her retirement as a Regent’s Professor at the University of New Mexico, where she taught drawing and painting for over 30 years, Elen has pursued the themes that have been at the center of her paintings for four decades: earth, water, sky, and our perception of light.
Elen received her BFA from Cornell University and her MFA from Indiana University. Feinberg & Galloway is her first show at New Concept Gallery.

WOODY GALLOWAY

Woody Galloway has made his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico since 1962. Galloway lives his life with the belief that we are surrounded by beauty, and that all life is sacred and unfolding. Perhaps as a direct result of this philosophy, Woody finds that his life is filled with beauty and wonder. With camera in hand, he has spent countless hours exploring the landscape of northern New Mexico, taking in the glory of the late afternoon sun on the cliffs overlooking Ghost Ranch, the wildness of the Chama River near Abiquiu, the tranquil silence of a crystalline winter morning on the shores of the Rio Grande near Pilar. Many of Galloway’s most iconic images reflect his willingness to venture forth into the storm at times when most of us would prefer to curl up by the fire with a cup of coffee and a good book. Woody learned to savor the beauty of the waters, trees and wind as a young boy growing up in the Ozark Mountains of northwestern Arkansas. There, Galloway was raised on a 400-acre playground in the company of 55 brothers and 38 sisters, his family at St. Joseph’s orphanage. It was here he first learned to see and feel the wonders of nature and people, to appreciate the profound impact of experiencing and sharing hope and joy.
For many, Woody Galloway’s photographs serve as treasured reminders of their time in New Mexico. His work is widely held in both public and private collections, has been featured on the cover of the Santa Fean magazine, and has been shown in the Governor’s Gallery at the New Mexico State Legislature. Galloway has been represented by New Concept Gallery since we opened in 2007.
