A Message from Doug Egly, General Manager The season is upon us and Black Diamond is getting busier and busier with each passing week. Our welcome back party was a resounding success and it was a pleasure seeing everyone back at the club. We have an important event coming up on December 8th where the entire Black Diamond team will be discussing the vision for Black Diamond and future plans for the community. We will share our findings and preliminary plans and you will hear not only from us, but from the consultants we have retained. We are inviting every resident and member to the event as a way to bring the community together and share an informative and entertaining evening. We are erecting a large tent alongside the 14th hole of the Quarry that will accommodate all the residents and members we expect for the evening. Following the presentation, we will enjoy dinner and live entertainment. Break out your boots and best western wear for what will be an incredible evening. The logistics to successfully execute an event of this magnitude are substantial. We are planning for every contingency and solving for all of the logistics. We expect it to be a very special event. Additional information will be sent to you prior to the event with regards to transportation from the clubhouse to the event, golf cart parking and other logistical details. As I mentioned earlier, the season is truly upon us. The dining room is busier than ever and we have a full calendar of events for our members. Starting with the Couples Club Championship on December 3rd and 4th followed by the Chorale Concert on the 6th and 7th. The POA Annual Meeting is scheduled for 3 PM on the 7th with the Community meeting on the 8th. We then finish up the year with our annual New Year’s

Eve Party. Work continues on the courses, as well as the clubhouse. The overseeding project is behind us and we are enjoying the fruits of that labor. I am proud to announce that Black Diamond was once again named by GolfWeek magazine as one of the best residential golf communities in the country, and the top community in the State of Florida. This year, Black Diamond was named the 15th best residential community in the country. That is quite an honor considering the competition in our state as well as throughout the country. I would also like to take this opportunity to announce that 2012 dues will remain the same as this year. Our entire team is committed to making the membership experience at Black Diamond the best in the state and we want to accomplish this with sound financial discipline. Our efforts are allowing us to keep dues stabilized in this economy. We would like to thank our members for their commitment and passion for Black Diamond. We are all excited about the future of the club and the community. As always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to call or email me. See you all on December 8th!

Welcome

New Black Diamond Members

A Holiday riddle for you . . . What is good for you, doesn’t come in a package, can be enjoyed in a group or alone, is the same no matter where in the world you find it, and transcends culture, religion and economic status? If you weren’t reading this article in your golf clubs’ newsletter from the golf professional; would you have guessed the answer to be “golf”? During this holiday season when we take time to give thanks, reinforce bonds with family and friends, and reflect on what is good in our lives, not so good and what we are willing to do about it; the game of golf seems to be the perfect gift. Whether it is the beautiful surroundings of the course, the opportunity to share time with friends, the thrill of watching the golf ball soar through the air or drop in the bottom of the cup, or just the shear challenge of the game itself; we golfers are truly blessed to experience all the game has to offer. This January we’ll have the opportunity to share our gift of golf with junior golfers from across the country when we host the Future Collegians World Tour. On January 7th and 8th, 100 junior golfers age 15 to 18 will converge to test their skills on Black Diamond’s Quarry Course. If you would be willing to help, we are looking for housing, shuttle service between holes, course spotters and club liaisons to bring the Black Diamond golf experience to life for these young hopefuls. If you could offer your assistance in any of these functions, please let me know. Who knows maybe we’ll see the next golf phenom right here at Black Diamond and be able to say “remember when. . . !” Eventually famous or not, helping junior golfers enjoy the gift of golf is not just good for them, but good for the health of the game we love as well!

The game of golf however is a little awkward to wrap! So, if you’re looking for a gift you can place under the tree, I suggest you start with our Holiday Sale in the golf shop Friday December 9th. We’ll be offering “Season Savings” on a variety of items for soft goods through hardgoods. The sale will run all day and will feature some really great deals for the holiday. On the hot list for men this season is the Foot Joy Slide. This ultra comfortable sandal has a cushioned foot bed and neoprene upper that offers both casual styling and pure joy to wear. Also on the “gotta have” list for men this season is a beautiful merino wool ¼ zip sweater from Fairway and Green. With a silky smooth lining that is whisper quiet, you’ll enjoy a full range of motion without restriction. For the ladies, Joe Fit continues to be the “must have!” This line of modern golf wear features fabrics that will keep you cool on the course and comfortable at the cocktail party. And with the recent addition of slacks from Joe Fit, we’ll have you covered from July through January. If it’s a hostess gift you’re looking for, how about the always popular “Tervis Tumblers.” These double insulted beverage glasses with the Black Diamond logo are always a welcome addition to any kitchen cabinet. Now remember —

“Don’t play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty.” ˜ Harry Vardon.

Congratulations Hole-In-One Richard Carey on his Hole-In-One on #8 of the Ranch Course on Friday, October 21st. Witnessed by Steve Pritchard, David Price, and Tom Park. page 3

A Note from Marie-Anne Salvio, President

I am excited to be serving as the BDLGA president for the 2011-2012 season. Our organization has grown steadily over time. Last year we were 165 members strong and I hope to see that continue in the coming year. The new Board members and Committee Chairs are listed below. Our goal is to provide friendly competition and camaraderie on our beautiful BD courses. The Association is open to all lady golfers with playing privileges as BD and an established handicap. The annual dues of $60 covers all play. Checks may be made out to “BDLGA” and dropped off at the Pro Shop or bring them to the next Ladies’ Day.

We look forward to seeing you all!

Veteran's Day Celebration 11-11-11

Thank you to everyone that helped make our inaugural Veterans Day Celebration such a great success! $4000.00 was raised to directly benefit local veterans through the Citrus County Veterans Association. The fun day of golf and camaraderie at Diamond Dunes recognized the contributions our veterans and active duty service members have made on our behalf. The event was punctuated with the singing of the American, Canadian and British national anthems. Jerry Lingerfelt and the Wade Hampton Village golf group created a great day that not only makes you proud to be a member of Black Diamond but also glad that we could help the veterans in need. Thank you again to everyone that participated and made this day happen! Jerry wanted to give a special thanks to Jim Bryson, John Cushing, Doug Egly, Andrea Knox, Merideth Rossetti and Jay Mullen. Without whose help and quick response this celebration would not have happened. Thanks to all who contributed and played for our Veterans. page 5

Golf News JAY MULLEN

Director of Golf Course Operations

Thank you all for your patience as we completed our overseeding project on all the courses. I am very pleased with the results. There are still several high traffic areas and some thin spots where we will continue to put additional seed so that it is uniform throughout. This is a process called dusting that will be done throughout the winter. The Poa Trivialis on the Quarry and Highlands greens is maturing nicely. It is to the point now that we can continue to lower the mowing height and roll the greens to get speeds back to where we want them. The Ranch greens are slightly behind as they were the last to be overseeded and we were working against some challenging weather conditions which slowed the germination process. They are now improving daily which will allow us to lower the mowing height and start increasing the putting speed. We have also started to adjust our fertilizing plan for the winter to promote a healthy root structure so that next spring we will have healthy turf conditions tee to green. Thanks you for your patience during the overseeding project. I believe the end result is well worth the slight inconvenience. Black Diamond Ranch continues to receive a number of terrific accolades including the top residential golf community in Florida by GolfWeek and one of the top 50 greatest courses in the last 50 years. It is an honor to be a part of the club. Now that we are in full season I am looking forward to meeting many of you who were not here over the summer. If you see me on the course, please stop and say hello. I am very conscientious about not interrupting your game, but would love to say hello and introduce myself.

BALTUSROL VILLAGE GOLF OUTING A SUCCESS The Twelfth Annual Baltusrol Golf and Dinner event was a great success. The Village competed in a mixed scramble and the results are as follows:

FIRST PLACE: Kerry Rosselet, Dianne Buck, Bill Belford and Dave Ragaini SECOND PLACE: Ellie Goss, Brenda Belford and Randy Loos THIRD PLACE: Donna Rose, Dick Coleman and Kevin Conway The Closest to the Pin Contest winner for the women was Mary Bell and Jerry Schlater won for the men. Both were so close they almost had a Hole-in-One! At the Awards Banquet hosted by Dianne and George Buck, a Lecanto Trivia Challenge game was conducted. The team of Mary Bell, Michael Cummings, John Rose and Dick Goss won First Place.

Reading & Discussion Group

The first place winner’s names have been engraved on the special Baltusrol Village Championship plaque alongside the previous years’ winner’s names. The Champions share possession of the plaque throughout the year.

A good time was had by all!

Santa will soon be coming to town and the book club is reading his “The Autobiography of Santa Claus” as told to Jeff Guinn for its December 15th meeting. Santa shares his entire life history with readers for the very first time. This story combines historical fact with wondrous legends giving us an entertaining and educational holiday adventure. The book club meets the 3rd Thursday at 4 pm in the boardroom. Future reads include “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. Contact Faeth Houle for more information.
