There is something about fried chicken that is very comforting. This is a great dish for a summer day. Serve it with a fresh watermelon salad or some mac n cheese and no one will be talking because everyone will be eating! Ingredients: 1 whole chicken, broken down into 10 pieces 3 cups flour 2 cups buttermilk 4 tablespoons onion powder 4 tablespoons garlic powder 3 tablespoons kosher salt 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper 1 tablespoon black pepper Hot sauce, we like Tabasco Peanut Oil 1. Place the chicken in a shallow baking dish and cover with buttermilk and a few liberal dashes of your favorite hot sauce. Season with a big pinch of salt and pepper. 2. Allow the chicken to sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. 3. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl. 4. Heat peanut oil to 350° C. 5. Remove chicken from the marinade and dredge into flour mixture. Coat it evenly and all over. NOTE: Thicker pieces lend to more crunch. 6. Gently place chicken into hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. 7. Place chicken on rack to rest before serving.

A Message from Bryan Richard, Director of Golf Season is right around the corner and as we anxiously await the arrivals of our northern members to return we would like to thank all of our year round members for their support in our summer tournament season. This summer was filled with great events with fun and enjoyment for all…..just ask Jim and Lois Filby. They were the summer winners of the Jackpot Joker event which is a part of Nine & Dine festivities. Join us for our next events which are set and scheduled for September 13th, October 4th & 25th. Beginning on September 1st, the USGA has moved all GHIN operations to an internet based system. With the system being moved to internet based, you will find that there is a slight delay as the webpage begins to load and process all of the information. You will notice on the lower left hand side a popup box that shows the system is working and gathering all necessary data. We are looking at adding more posting stations in the next couple of weeks to help with the potential delays this new system might cause with the returning members. Members are also able to post their scores from the internet through ghin.com or by downloading the GHIN Applications from their Apple devices. This process with require your GHIN number, which anyone within the Golf Shop is able to assist you with gathering. Our 2014 Golf Event calendar is completed and will be available in the Golf Shop for everyone to pick up. We will also be posting a link on our Black Diamond website. For 2014 we have designated a number of events so that all members are made aware of not just Major tournaments but also other tournaments that take place during the year. You may have noticed recently that our GHIN Handicap posting stations have a different look and feel to them. This is the new GHIN internet posting system that the FSGA is beginning to equip their member clubs with. This new, internet-based system should provide a more stable platform, and can be accessed from anywhere that has an internet connection. To help you adjust to the new system, we would like to point out a few differences from the old interface. When you begin posting a score, you will need to press the “Club Member Score Posting” button to start, rather than the center of the screen. One thing you will notice is a slight delay between screens after you press one of the buttons. This is normal and the next screen will load. As this is an internet-based system, the webpage does need a moment to load. Another difference you will see is that the course selection screen now only lists the names of the courses at Black Diamond, and does not include the tees. Once you find the course you played, select it by pressing it on the screen. Then you will be given the option to select your tee. This offers a much cleaner course selection screen, and should help you find the correct course quicker. After you post your score, if you want to check your course handicaps, there is a new button at the bottom of the player overview screen labeled “Course Handicaps”. By pressing this, you are given an option to select any Black Diamond course to view your handicap on, from all sets of tees. As before, you are still able to look-up handicaps and print handicap labels. We hope you enjoy this new system. If you have any questions on how to navigate through the pages, the Golf Shop staff would be happy to assist you.

Foretees Foretees is by far the most useful tool that we have in the Golf Shop for starting times and information for both members and staff. With the foretees system we are able to better assist with customer service and member starting when group leaders monitor their active rosters more frequently. Please attempt to make sure that all of the players listed on foretees are the active players that you expect to play during that day. Thank you for your support in this situation.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! BDLGA SEPTEMBER LADIES’ DAY GAMES (Some games may be switched to different days because of course selection)

A Note from... Jane Smart, President It happens so quickly, a season ends and we are watching some birds begin their migratory trip South. Different species, following their instincts, head south for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is to find a warmer climate. In the North, our “snowbird” friends are beginning to feel the cold nights and their body clocks are telling them that the seasons are changing and it is time to plan for their return to Black Diamond. They look forward to reconnecting and being with friends, meeting new people, BDLGA on Tuesdays, great food and playing golf on our wonderful Black Diamond courses. For Black Diamond’s year round residents, preparation is underway for the influx of returning “snowbirds” after a quiet enjoyable summer. This seasonal change brings renewed friendships, a greater demand for tee times, more golf cart traffic on the roads, more people at trivia night and larger clubhouse gatherings. All of us live in continued awe of how quickly the season’s pass and thus have an accompanying appreciation for our wonderful Black Diamond friends and the community we share.
