FROM THE EDITOR
POWERED BY NORTHEAST.GOLF
Thank You Golf for my love of the game BY TIMOTHY BRANCO Golf is by far one of the most complicated, passionate, encapsulating and intriguing sports in the world today. For some strange unexplained reason, we are all at some point ultimately captured inside the magic and mystery of the game. From your first date to your ultimate marriage with golf, it will leave you wanting for more; it is endless love and the essence of passion. How do you describe golf love, an anonymous author once said, When I die, bury me on a beautiful golf course so my love will visit. Golf is a game played on beautiful park-like grounds, manicured with fresh cut grass it would be the ultimate final destination in any life. The most important word I can use to describe golf is, thank you. Thank you for my family and friends for bringing golf to my life. Thank you to every course designer, every superintendent, every golf professional for bringing golf to all of us. Thank you for all the entrepreneurs who have invested in this great game with the vision and inspiration to make it spectacular. And also, to those who have brought innovation and technology to golf to help us play better and longer into life. In such a complex world with so many distractions, golf has stayed simple, sociable, and playable. It is my place to stretch my capabilities, share my frustrations and connect with my surroundings. Thank you golf for always being there, for the people and places I have played and enjoyed with friends, for the lifelong relationships and endless conversation with others, for my long walks and short putts. Thank you golf for a game that has made my life a very special journey!

Like a lot of people my age, I grew up in an era when private clubs were mysterious places hidden behind hedges—places where dads disappeared to chase golf balls, play cards, and not come home until they damn well felt like it. The world still turns this way at many Boston-area clubs. But not Renaissance. This enlightened enclave, located a stone’s throw from I-495 in Haverhill, is the polar-opposite of your typical Boston Brahmin snoozatorium. At Renaissance, club life is a family affair— and a thoroughly modern one. At first glance, you can see that Renaissance has all the requisite amenities of an upscale private club. Inside the stately clubhouse, the club’s grand ballroom, comfy grille room, fitness center, and massive locker rooms all bespeak an expected level of luxury. But venture up

2019
IS THE YEAR
OF EXOTICS
TOUR EDGE CONTINUES TO TAKE OFF AND THIS TIME IT’S LETTING ITS EXOTICS TOUR-WINNING LINE LEAD THE WAY Tour Edge followed up a banner year in 2018 in which they saw their best sales and best market share numbers in company history, their most wins on the PGA Tours in a year (7 wins), their driver winning the Women’s World Long Drive Championship for the 2nd time, their most aggressive advertising and consumer awareness to date and extreme growth with their top partners that led to a third straight year of handover-fist growth. These are no easy tasks for a company who has been at it for 33 years. So what’s in the water over at Tour Edge? And what do they have in store for 2019? Let’s take a closer look.
“It used to be that we would say that we were a Top 10 manufacturer in almost every club category, but our recent growth has led us to 46

leap-frog some long standing entities to where we can confidently say that we are a Top 6 or 7 golf club manufacturer,” said Tour Edge President David Glod. The new Exotics CBX 119 fairway woods and hybrids that Tour Edge launched in Orlando are considered to be the best of the best in metalwoods for better players seeking distance and low-spin. The Exotics EXS line that launched in November is what Tour Edge is calling ‘the Everyman’s Exotics.’ They consider this line of clubs to be pound for pound the best golf clubs in technology, performance, price, quality of materials and craftsmanship in the market place today. Tour Edge started off the 2019 season with a win by their staff player Tom Lehman. When Lehman opened up the 2019 PGA Tour Champions season with a victory at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, he did so with the brand new Exotics CBX 119 hybrid and a #2 Exotics CBX Iron-Wood by Tour Edge in the bag. Tour Edge announced that Lehman officially signed a deal to wear a Tour Edge Exotics logo on his chest, to carry an Exotics CBX 119 staff bag and to play their Exotics metalwoods just a few days before the season-opening win. Lehman will be joined by Scott McCarron, the #2 ranking player on the PGA Tour Champions in 2018, who signed a deal with Tour Edge to play Exotics and to have the Tour Edge Exotics
logo on his sleeve. Tour Edge has also signed Tim Petrovic and Duffy Waldorf to deals in 2019 to wear Tour Edge Exotics headwear and play their clubs.
their spin-killing properties even less spin. He was also able to raise the MOI on the both the fairway and the hybrid by widening the Speed Ramp Sole on the sole of the club by 15%.
All in all, Tour Edge attracted over 60 different players to play their equipment on the PGA Tours in 2018.
The other new Exotics, the Exotics EXS line, is loaded with technology and innovation at prices designed to be the best bang for your buck in golf in the ultra-premium sector.
Their Exotics CBX line of tour preferred fairway woods, hybrids and iron-woods received numerous national awards including the “Most Wanted Fairway Wood of 2018” by worldrenowned golf website My Golf Spy.
Now they have launched the new versions of CBX with the CBX 119 fairway woods and hybrid that Lehman recently won with. The new Exotics CBX 119 continues the CBX technology of a Titanium face combo brazed onto a stainless steel body in conjunction with a carbon fiber sole. This remains the only design to ever incorporate Titanium, steel and carbon and the hybrid remains the only Titanium faced version in golf. The new CBX 119 features new shapes based on tour player feedback like more compact heads with deeper faces and shorter heel to toe ratios. Master club designer and President of Tour Edge David Glod was able to save more weight through the use of more carbon fiber on the sole, giving these clubs already known for
For more information on Tour Edge and to find a local Tour Edge dealer, visit their website at www.touredge.com.
The EXS driver, fairway metal and hybrid all feature a myriad of game-enhancing innovations. For example, the loaded-with-technology EXS driver features a Flight Tuning System (FTS) that includes two interchangeable weights, an adjustable hosel that allows for plus two or minus two degrees in loft, Roll Face Technology for an expanded sweet spot, Dual Carbon Fiber placement for ideal weight distribution and a new and improved SlipStream™ Sole for faster clubhead speed. “This is the most technology we’ve ever been able to fit into a design and each one works in concert with one another to provide the best performing driver possible, said Tour Edge President, founder and Master Club Designer David Glod. “The shapes are beautiful and we utilized only the finest in materials and components. I believe that at the aggressive price point that we are offering, the EXS driver will have its highest impact on the driver market over any other previous Exotics release.” Their aggressive price points ($299.99 for the Exotics EXS driver, $229.99 for the EXS fairway metal and $199.99 for the EXS hybrid, all clubs that feature a genuine Mitsubishi Tensei shaft that retails for $140 on its own!) and Tour Edge is currently advertising the Exotics EXS line heavily on the Golf Channel and across the golf industry media to create even more brand awareness than it has ever received. All signs point to another banner year for Tour Edge, with their new Exotics products leading the way on the professional tours and in the marketplace. NORTHEAST. Callaway Epic Flash and Epic Flash Sub Zero: Not resting after the success of the 2017 Epic and 2018 Rogue, Callaway employed artificial intelligence and machine learning to come up with a unique wave pattern for the inside of the Epic Flash face to help produce more ball speed–thus the advertising slogan “Faster Than Humanly Possible.” Other key elements of the Flash design include a carbon fiber crown, Jailbreak rods, and 16 gram sliding sole weight. The Sub Zero model also has a fixed weight located near the front of the sole to lower spin. Priced at $530 contrasting with last year’s Rogue which sold for $500.
TaylorMade M5 and M6: The success of the Twist Face design (toe slightly open/added loft—heel slightly closed/less loft) in straightening out hooks and slices led TMaG to make the face even thinner> This raised rebound at impact higher than USGA allows and to lower it back to “legal” levels two ports, looking like old-time face screws, were added so resin could be injected behind the face…certainly a unique solution to the problem. The carbon crown and sole panels were enlarged to further reduce weight, the sole slot is also larger and the sole of the M5 has two 10-gram sliding weights in a T-track. Pricing of the M5 and M5 Tour is $550 while M6 and M6 D-Type are $500.

Lynx Golf has launched the Prowler VT Driver with Switch Face Technology, a revolutionary new design concept that uses interchangeable faces to provide golfers the ability to adjust the true loft of their club. Other adjustable drivers change loft by rotating the clubhead around the hosel, resulting in the face sitting open or closed relative to the target. Switch Face Technology allows golfers to change the true loft of the hitting surface while keeping the clubhead square to the ball. Prowler VT is designed with an entirely removable face that is secured to the clubhead via attachment screws. At launch, the company will offer faces in five lofts (8, 9, 10, 11 and 12) with varying open and closed settings (2-degrees closed, 1-degree closed, square, 1-degree open, 2-degrees open). This will give golfers 25 different loft and face angle options initially, with more planned to follow. The Lynx Prowler VT with Switch Face Technology will be sold initially with a FREE face of your choice from the range* and individual faces will be available to purchase separately.
Cobra KING F9 Speedback: To build a driver with the best distance potential two of the factors needed are heads with low aerodynamic drag and a low center of gravity in order to give the ball both a high launch angle and low spin. Low drag requires a high crown, but this also raises the CG and Cobra’s solution was to extend the carbon fiber crown of the Speedback ($449) to wrap entirely around the head raising the center of the crown as well as the skirt and tail. The leading edges of CNC milled face were also rounded plus the toe and heel sole areas were sharply tapered so 14-gram and 2-gram reversible weights could be added to the center section. KING F9 Speedback drivers have COBRA Connect Powered by Arccos at no additional charge.

Mizuno ST190: A redesigned Amplified Wave sole compliments a deeper clubface of HT1770 Maraging steel which according to Mizuno flexes more like a driver than a fairway wood to maximize ball speed for more distance. The carbon composite crown saved 4 grams of weight which was relocated deeper in the head to further help with launch and lower spin. For the new season additional optional shafts with no upcharge include the Atmos Blue 6R, Atmos Red 6S, Atmos Red 6R and Atmos Black TS 7S. The ST190 is $250 and an adjustable ST190 TS is $300.
PXG 0341X GEN2: Using some of the features of their new 0811 GEN2 drivers PXG’s new 0341X GEN2 fairway woods produce more clubhead speed and distance. The carbon fiber crown is a multi-thickness design to reduce the amount of flex at impact, so energy is concentrated more in the face. There are eight sole weights, four of tungsten and four of titanium that may be interchanged for added forgiveness and desired ball launch. The hosel is loft adjustable and an elastomer sole insert absorbs vibration. Retail price through club fitters only is $425.

Wilson D7: This new line includes RE•AKT technology. Carpetner Custom 455 Face features a premium maraging steel insert, creating a thin, hot surface for incredible feel and distance performance. The Superlight design means faster club head speeds with less effort and a new crown construction with thin cast pockets adds structure where it’s needed while minimizing weight where it’s not. The results are greatplaying, highly-versatile fairway woods. $200
Tour Edge CBX 119: Exotics has once again taken distance gains to the next level with the all-new CBX 119. Based off tour feedback the R & D team was able to design ultimate fairway metal shape resulting in 25% of the weight in the club head saved for CG manipulation. Plus, a 15% wider sole created a higher MOI and even higher CG reducing spin even more off the of the metalwoods already known as, “The Spin Killers.” $300

HYBRIDS By Ed Travis
Bridgestone Tour B JGR: Made to be played by mid to high handicap golfers these hybrids use Bridgestone’s Power Mill Face to give low spin and stabilize the ball at impact. The large size easy-to-hit design and has a pleasing to look at pear shape. The head has a draw bias and as with all the woods in this family the crown is a two-level design called Boost Wave. Price is $220.
Honma TW737 UT/UTc: Though classified as a utility club these good looking hybrids offer two options. The UT has the larger head and more face progression similar to a fairway wood while the UTc is more compact with more iron-like performance. Both have a thin crown and a high strength steel cup face. Retail price is $250.

PING G410: Incorporating loft/lie adjustability in a hybrid giving golfers a full range of trajectory tuning from 17 to 30 degress – including flatter lie angles which help combat the oft-maligned quick hook, which is a common criticism of hybrids from better players. However, to do so, PING wasn’t willing to concede ball speed, MOI or anything else. As such, the hybrids will feature the same thin maraging steel face as the fairway woods and high-density tungsten back-weighting, which better aligns CG with impact. Retail $289
XXIO Prime: Crafted exclusively for moderate swing speed players, new XXIO hybrids provide additional forgiveness and unmatched speed off the club face. The new forged maraging steel cup face greatly increases ball speed and distance performance thanks to a larger, hotter sweet spot. The new XXIO Prime SP-1000 Shaft, is extremely lightweight to help produce more ball speed and distance due to its smooth, easy-to-swing profile. Retail $380.
