Day One – Fly to Munich and transfer to

Alpbach Upon arrival in the Bavarian capital, meet your tour manager and board the coach to make the scenic journey south into the Austrian Tyrol and on to beautiful Alpbach, in its glorious alpine setting. Check into your welcoming hotel, settle into your beautiful surroundings and enjoy a complimentary welcome drink before dinner.

Day Two – Day at leisure in Alpbach or included excursion into the Alpbach

mountains Following a hearty Tyrolean breakfast, get to know beautiful Alpbach, a picture-postcard-perfect alpine idyll set in a broad, sunny valley beneath the Gratlspitz mountain. Join your tour manager for a gentle introduction to the village and its stunning surroundings. Flower-decked, wooden buildings are backed by green pastures, crisscrossed by a network of hiking trails that lead to the heights above. A haven for walkers, mountain-bikers and lovers of the outdoor life, Alpbach and her neighbours, which boast several tennis courts and nearby golf courses, also provide plenty for the less energetic, with museums and ancient farmhouses to explore, and cable cars to lift you above the valley. An Alpbachtal card offers discounted fares and admissions to local attractions, and your tour manager and the hotel hosts will always be on hand to point you in the right direction. After a first wonderfully relaxed day, enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening.

Day Three – Included full-day tour of

Innsbruck After breakfast, board the coach for the scenic journey to Imperial Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital, with its historic old town, or Altstadt, and famous Maria-Theresien-Strasse, the elegant main street. Don’t miss the famous ‘Golden Roof’, the copper-tiled covering above the window from which the Kaiser would look down on the royal tournaments in the square below. Be sure to stop for ‘coffee and cake’ at one of the countless cafés in the Old Town, before returning to Alpbach in time for dinner.

Day Four – Included excursion to Achensee

Today’s hugely enjoyable included tour is to Achensee, the largest of the Tyrolean lakes. Take in picture-book Rattenburg, Austria’s smallest city, on the banks of the Inn River and perhaps sample yet more coffee and cake. Enjoy a memorable cruise across the still waters on a lake cruiser and complete a memorable day with a visit to Achenkirch, a charming, traditional village of wooden chalets, fringed by towering pines. Return to Alpbach this afternoon, to enjoy time in the village before dinner.

Day Five – Optional excursion to Mayrhofen and

the Hintertux Glacier Following a relaxed breakfast, you can choose to spend another wonderful day enjoying Alpbach and its surroundings, or to join your tour manger for a memorable day, first making the scenic journey to Mayrhofen, one of Austria’s premier year-round resorts. After a chance to explore the town, journey on to the frozen heights of the great Hintertux Glacier, an exhilarating day that includes a journey on the Tuxer Fernerhaus gondola, which transports you to the dizzy heights above and the mountain restaurant, from the sun terrace of which you can enjoy wonderful views of the Zillertal Alps and the snow-capped peaks beyond. You’ll then head make your scenic way back to Alpbach in time for dinner. Day Six – Included tour of Salzburg Today’s included excursion is to beautiful Salzburg, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, forever associated with the movie ‘The Sound of Music’ and lying huddled beneath the imposing Hohensalzburg Castle. Enjoy a walking tour of this treasure trove of Baroque architecture in the company of a local guide, after which you can explore the city at your own pace. Don’t miss the Castle, which towers 400 feet above the city, and offers predictably wonderful views, nor the exquisite Dom cathedral with its frescoes. Connections with Mozart are everywhere – from the Mozartplatz with its famous Glockenspiel clock, to the composer’s birthplace and his family home, both of which can be visited during the day (entrances payable locally).

Day Seven – Included tour to Zell am See, optional Salzburg Glacier tour and visit to

Kitzbuhel On your last full day, once again after breakfast board the coach to join your tour manager for a journey to yet another scenic Austrian corner, where the picturesque town of Zell am See is a delight. Explore the town, with its shops, cafés and onion-domed churches, or take the opportunity to make an optional trip to the nearby Salzburg Glacier. Some 20 minutes’ drive from Zell am See, the glacier is over three thousand metres above sea level and is reached via the Glacier Aerial Tramway. After you’ve reached the summit and taken in the spectacular view, you’ll return to collect the other guests in Zell and continue to fashionable Kitzbuhel, another alpine resort, set beneath the famous Hahnenkahm mountain, and boasting chic boutiques, cafés, and a grand medieval square. Enjoy a last chance to shop, before returning to Alpbach for your final evening and dinner. Day Eight – Return to the UK Check out of your hotel and make the two-hour transfer back to Munich and your flight back to the UK, at the end of a truly delightful Tyrolean interlude.
