Glenveagh Lake, County Donegal
Enjoy a feast of varied sights and stunning coastal and mountain scenery, as from your base in lively Letterkenny you visit County Antrim’s astonishing UNESCO-listed Giant’s Causeway, take in Donegal Town, the beautiful Glenveagh National Park and its castle, and spend a day on the remote, timeless Inishowen peninsula.
One of the most popular towns in Ireland’s north, bustling Letterkenny, a short distance from beautiful Lough Swilly, offers shops, restaurants, bars and cafés, and is a perfect base for the tour. The undoubted highlight will be the visit to the truly breathtaking Causeway, where extraordinary basalt columns act as stepping stones into the Atlantic waters – a simply unforgettable sight. Our visit will include entrance to the Visitor Centre. As well as enjoying the active interpretation area, you’ll be given a free audio guide to take to the stones. Although there is typically a minibus to take visitors to the causeway from the visitor centre (payable locally), the more energetic will be rewarded by walking across the cliff path, with its breathtaking views and invigorating sea air. Photo opportunities also abound at ruined Dunluce Castle in its cliff-top setting, and this popular break is completed with visits to lively Donegal Town with its Jacobean castle, verdant Glenveagh National Park with its rolling vistas, and unspoiled Inishowen, site of the poignant Doagh Island Famine Village. From here, travel through the beautiful, timeless landscape, remote peninsula town of Carndonagh to wild, windswept Malin, from where stupendous views stretch to the west of Scotland.
