Assisi, Umbria

This wonderful holiday is based in the traditional Adriatic resort of Pesaro, a lively, colourful, but low-key seaside town, where café life is centred on the elegant Piazza del Popolo. The beach awaits sun-worshippers and the most energetic past time might be strolling the seafront promenade, gelato in hand, or joining the evening passeggiata. Famed as the birthplace of William Tell Overture composer Gioachino Rossini, the town pays homage to its famous son with a museum at his birthplace, and a theatre named in his honour.

From this delightful base, journey through the unspoiled countryside of Le Marché region, to the exquisite university seat of Urbino and its famed UNESCO-listed Ducal Palace, home to the 15thcentury court of Federico da Montefeltro, one of the great Renaissance figures. Take in Ravenna, home to some of the world’s finest Byzantine mosaics, and visit the tiny, hilltop Serene Republic of San Marino, the world’s fifth-smallest country, enjoying spectacular views from its ancient Città. The Umbrian cities of Perugia, with its elegant centre and Assisi, with its great Basilica, both surrounded by idyllic countryside, and the chance to visit pilgrimage shrine Loreto, complete the memorable tour.
