Cutting edge potato slicing technology
Potato processing is a constantly changing market. As this market evolves, so must the processing equipment. New cutting technologies have been developed and they are meeting industry’s demand for higher capacities, larger throughputs, and new and different potato shapes.
The Urschel Model CC Potato Chip Slicer is the industry standard slicer for potato chips. The innovative design of this equipment uses centrifugal force to hold product against cutting stations located inside the machine. As the product passes each cutting station, it produces slices, shreds or strips. Motor sizes range from 2, 5 or 10 HP (1.5, 3.7 or 7.5kW) and in addition to potatoes, various other foods can be sliced such as cheese, vegetables or nuts.
The CC Slicer is popular for its interchangeable cutting heads, which can produce a huge variety of cuts. Potato processors can easily create a range of different product styles with a single machine. The CC slicer can be used to produce flat slices, full, flat-V, reduced flat-V, oval, reduced oval (crescent), strips, julienne, and even, grating options.
The Model CC Slicer is just one example of equipment that has been updated to meet the changing needs of the potato chip industry. Urschel is well known for listening actively to customer feedback and invests strongly in the infrastructure needed to support food industry’s demands.
The Model CC Slicer now producesan even broader spectrum of sliceshapes, including crinkle, V, flat-V, and Z.Development of SH-14 (shredding) andSL-14 (slicing) micro-adjustable heads hassignificantly increased the capacity of themachine to 14 cutting stations, surpassingthe previous standard of 8. This reducesoperator interaction and results in longerrun times between knife changes.
The new cutting heads are designed to bemore user-friendly and Urschel continues toexpand the 14-station line of cutting heads. For example, the SlideLocc.212V slice headoffers three simple steps of slide, lock inplace, and tighten.
MEET THE OTHER MEMBER OF THE CC SERIES
The Model CCL Lattice Potato Chip Slicer is another member of the CC series of slicers.Potato processors use this model to create a unique appearance for their speciality potato products. A popular application for this slicer is to produce lattice style potato chips and thicker potato waffle fries.
The CCL Slicer produces a unique lattice appearance in the potato that results in both sides of the slice having interlaced crinkles that run at 90° to each other. Urschel customers have shown a strong interest in expanding the capabilities of the Model CCL Lattice Potato Chip Slicer, so it is likely that model will also be upgraded in the future.
For customers already using Urschel Model CC Slicers, this equipment can be converted into a CCL Lattice Slicer.
TALK TO US ABOUT THE APPLICATION
A thorough evaluation of the product and its application should be completed before purchasing any size reduction equipment. Urschel is represented exclusively by Heat and Control in South Africa and test cutting can be scheduled with a local Urschel representative. •
