HOLIDAY SHOWS TO TAKE THE GRANDKIDS TO

PETER PAN ON ICE

The world’s premier theatrical ice skating company, The Imperial Ice Stars, returns to South Africa with a brand-new show, Peter Pan on Ice, this December. Take a journey to Neverland in this classic tale of magic and make-believe, spectacularly staged on real ice.

Showcasing 23 former World, European and National Championshiplevel skaters, the highly accomplished cast will astound and mesmerise audiences with their adrenaline-rich, dramatic performance. Collectively, the entire cast holds more than 250 competition medals and will bring their athletic and artistic talents to retell J M Barrie’s well-loved story of Peter Pan. Join Peter – the boy who never grows up – as he and Tinker Bell whisk Wendy and her brothers from their London home off on a magical journey to Neverland. Watch as they enjoy thrilling adventures with the Lost Boys, Tiger Lily and the Mermaids, encountering the evil Captain Hook, his pirates and a very hungry crocodile!

Set to an original score, the show features exquisite, innovative choreography as well as powerful storytelling created by Artistic Director Tony Mercer, widely regarded as the world’s leading creator of theatre-on-ice.

On at the Teatro At Montecasino from 06 December 2019 to 11 January 2020.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK

Acclaimed writer, director and South Africa’s queen of pantomime Janice Honeyman will once again tell the story of poor country boy Jack, the family cow, the magic beans, the enormous beanstalk, the unfriendly giant and the enchanted hen that lays the golden eggs. Adding the giant’s henchman – a truly evil panto villain – and the essential good fairy, Honeyman’s Jack and The Beanstalk will have audiences in awe at the show’s sheer spectacle and Jack the Joller’s madcap efforts to be its courageous hero. Not seen on The Mandela stage at Joburg Theatre since 2012, this everpopular pantomime story traditionally sets good against evil and is jam-packed full of Honeyman’s wit, double-entendres, charm and magic.

Making his pantomime debut as the villain is actor, comedian, writer, radio and TV host, director and painter Casper de Vries, and returning to the Joburg Theatre following her triumphant success in the role of Shug Avery in The Color Purple is Lelo Ramasimong as the good fairy. Lelo became a household name in SA when she made it to the Top 10 on Idols and her theatre career has also included featured roles in Dreamgirls, African Footprint and Burn the Floor. The role of Jack the Joller also brings actor Zolani Shangase back to the Joburg Theatre. Zolani enjoyed popularity in his recurring role on DSTV’s Moja Love in the telenovela Hope. His stage credits include a year in the West End of London with The Lion King and – in South Africa – Janice Honeyman’s Aladdin, The Rocky Horror Show, Show Boat, Orpheus in Africa and The Color Purple.

On at the Joburg Theatre from 2 November to 22 December 2019.
