TILES FOR NELSON MANDELA CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Union Tiles was privileged and honoured to be involved in this wonderful project. The vision that was so successfully depicted by the architect and board, was carried out and ended in a fairy tale of clean lines, yet welcoming and fresh.

Union Tiles supplied a ‘true’ Terrazzo tile 600x600mm in size and 20mm thick. The background was a soft light grey with beautiful almost luminescent white marble chips in, these were polished to a beautiful shine. Union Tiles’ product is absolutely unique and, has been recognised by the Green Building Council.

The Polished terrazzo is regarded as extremely favourable internationally and locally by architects due to its sustainable and stain resistant features. As with natural stone, after years of wear and tear terrazzo tiles can be rejuvenated by re-grinding, revealing a beautiful new surface. Now there is a lifetime of service!

The specific tile LG21HPSL, that was used allowed for designers to incorporate many fun aspects into the childrens’ wards. The colour and depth of this tile created a background and palette for all the other colours to look brighter, clearer and in many ways allowed for a gentler fun feeling.
