Welcome to our New Music Weekly Special Fall Hits Edition. With the final quarter of the year in full bloom all of the labels and artists are making their final push for 2021. It’s hard to believe that this year is almost over and that we are ever so near the holiday season like it or not that time is almost upon us. For the music industry they are all geared up for this time as well and on the hopes that they can turn 2021 into a profitable year. So far when looking back at last year, the numbers have vastly improved, and it looks like there may me some time to celebrate as much of the industry has gotten back on its feet. The major labels have pulled out all the stops via their signature artists to make a solid run to the finish line. From Justin Bieber, who has had a pretty big year in music, to the likes of the Jonas Brothers, Coldplay, BTS & others, there has been a huge push to pull the best numbers possible as they wrap up their business for the rest of this year and try to turn their biggest profits to date. They may not have the banner year that they had hoped for but then again it is far better than 2020 which found the industry in a tailspin. As the major labels try to break ground during this final quarter, the independent labels and artists have truly had a turnaround year at that. All you have to do is take a look at our radio charts from mainstream to country to see the artists and bands that are making huge strides in 2021. Many artists and bands again abandoned the major label machinery in favor of putting out their own music. Again, with the deals that the majors have been offering, taking your music independently has proven to be a winning combination. With this final quarter of the year now well underway, it’s that time once again to look towards the award show season. Our annual New Music Awards will once again honor artists, bands and record labels via nominations. We will also honor radio stations, programmers, public relation firms and industry professionals who have had a hand in making 2021 a little extra special. No doubt it will be a crowded field, but we expect so see a good solid showing of support from the music industry as we move towards that time. In the coming weeks we will begin speaking to radio stations, music and program directors about artists and bands that have had an impact on their own local charts. We will take the first step in finding out what really worked for them this year as we begin to plot out the nomination schedule. Also coming up in just a few weeks will be our annual open ballot for artists, bands and industry professionals. The general public, and all of you reading this will have a special hand in helping to choose the New Music Award nominees. We really encourage your participation in this process as it will make the nomination process run as smoothly as it can. Always a bit chaotic, it at least opens the process up to our subscribers and allows for the music fans to have a helping hand as well. The annual New Music Awards will once again feature formats from AC40, Country, Top40 to College giving the opportunity to shine a solid spotlight on all of the varies music types. After all, NMW provides weekly charts for all of the formats that truly matter and you will also see some solid crossover activity as well. Many artists this year especially made their music accessible to multi-formats. The record labels have come to realize that crossing formats brings a much bigger audience and that means a bigger financial reward for artists and bands on their roster. You can see those artists on our charts in this issue. Country radio especially has seen a huge move towards the mainstream. New Music Weekly will continue to once again offer the best “tools of the trade” when it comes to showcasing both the major and the independent music artists. Many have taken the time to participate in our special advertising program and we can see that by the special ads in this issue. Our STS tracking & Airplay Access are second to none in helping to service and chart artists from coast to coast. Let’s have a solid end to 2021.

Two-time ACM New Female Vocalist nominee RaeLynn continues to carve her unique lane in Country music with her gift for storytelling through songwriting, accented by a one-of-a-kind, electric personality. RaeLynn’s EP BAYTOWN – her first since signing to Round Here Records – released in 2020 and has surpassed 65 million streams, adding to her 840 million total career streams. Scoring high-profile features with People, American Songwriter, and Entertainment Tonight, she’s stacking acclaim for “a confident, joyous effort” (Billboard) that’s “equally tender-hearted and fiercely fun” (Tennessean). BAYTOWN follows her widely lauded debut WILDHORSE which arrived at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and was recognized among the best Country albums of 2017 by Rolling Stone, UPROXX and Stereogum. Most recently on Maren Morris’ GIRL: THE WORLD TOUR, she’s also joined Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, FGL, Kane Brown, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton on the road. With both GOLD (“Love Triangle”) and PLATINUM (“God Made Girls”) singles to her name and nearly 2.5 MILLION followers across her engaging online platforms, her star continues to rise after becoming the first Country face to represent the global beauty brand Too Faced and making her acting debut in Hallmark Channel’s A Nashville Christmas Carol. Justin Bieber keeps breaking hit after hit at the Top40 format. His new offering in “Ghost” (Def Jam) keeps his list of monster hits growing by leaps and bounds and this one is no exception. The pairing of Drake with Future and Young Thug has turned out to be quite the winner. “Way 2 Sexy” (OVO/300 Ent-Epic-Republic) is pulling in strong numbers at radio and our music and program directors are all over this one big time. Another pairing that is rocking the radio world comes from the always interesting Kanye West who has joined forces with The Weeknd & Lil Baby. Together they are taking it to the streets with “Hurricane” (Def Jam) and the results so far are “off the charts” so please join the party. Halsey is about as hot as they come in the female pop arena. She shows all of what she has with her latest in “I am not a woman, I’m a God” (Capitol). With a title like that you just know she means business. Best get on this one quick. Also doing as well as any band can these days on the radio charts, OneRepublic is showing everybody how its done as their new “Someday” (Interscope) takes flight. I really like this one a whole lot. Billie Eilish is thrilled about her career and expresses it very well in “Happier Than Ever” (Interscope). With a list of hits in her early career already a mile long, why would you not be happy? The Weeknd is taking no prisoners and keeping his quest for ruling the charts alive and well as his new “Take My Breath” (Republic) blasts off like a rocket. Seems after that big performance at the Super Bowl, this artist is truly at the top of his game. Lil Nas X is also on fire pushing songs out like hot cakes. “That’s What I Want” (Columbia) is a breakout hit and his pairing with Jack Harlow in “Industry Baby” (Columbia) is also already a Top10 at radio. You can’t keep this kid down for a minute or he’ll hurt you bad. The new and ever exciting Mercury Messiah are making huge moves at the format. “Sunlight Surfing” (Dovetail Entertainment) is the jam that everybody is raving about and for good reason, it’s just that good. Those fun loving Primadonna Reeds are also pulling in some rather impressive numbers. It’s all due to the single “Spur Of The Moment” (Cascades) that is helping to keep them at the top of the pack. Sofia Evangelina is also breaking strong from coast to coast. Her debut single “Endure” (Crescendo) has already reached #1 on our AC40 Indie chart but it’s also moving to the top at Top40 as well. Drake is taking Future & Young Thug along for a musical ride and it all appears to be working quite well. “Way 2 Sexy” (OVO/300 Ent-Epic-Republic) is the jam that I’m talking about and what a great mix this is indeed. I would jump on this right away and power it out. It’s a real red-hot hit! What’s with Walker Hayes? It’s not so bad that he’s breaking at Country with “Fancy Like” (Monument/RCA), he now pushing it at Top40 & Hot AC and the formats are loving it big time. All the Country cats are moving towards mainstream to get bigger and better royalty checks – can you blame them? Meg Berry & “Built To Lose” (Farm to Table Sounds) has been proven to be a solid winner for her. Love the track & so do our music and programmers. Tai Verdes is also off like a rocket at the format and what a splendid showing for “AO-K” (Arista) that is fast becoming a real pop music anthem. Bella Poarch is also building a very bright future with the single “Build A Bitch” (Warner) that seems to still be getting lots of play around the USA. Gramma Rikki has had quiet the run at the format for her “Closer” (OBCD) single that has done remarkably well. John Journey has taken his new “Everyday Angels” (Most Likely Music) to great heights as well & he continues to shine bright. Larry Pascale is living the dream just as his single “Living A Dream” takes off like a rocket. So many great artists to cover and such little space to actually to it all. I’ll have more for you next time in this very column as we pull clover to our New Music Award nominations. It’s that time already to be thinking annual awards and to put your best foot forward.

Ed Sheeran continues his very red-hot streak at Hot AC with the single “Shivers” (Atlantic). It’s the follow-up to his #1 “Bad Habits” & this one has all the makings of putting him back at #1 and in record time. Ed seems to be in a real groove these days and there is nothing getting in his way. Kacey Musgraves would like too but she has her own agenda. The plan is to take her new single “justified” (MCA Nashville/Interscope) to pop radio, leaving Country behind for a spell and she just may be on to something. She’s the definition of “cool” & that’s what pop radio is all about these days. Regardless of her story the song is really pulling in some rather bold and beautiful numbers, and it appears that Kacey has taken the Taylor Swift route while the time is just right. That little Doja Cat is about as hot as they come. “Need To Know” (Kemosabe/ RCA) has all of the kitties cooing and our panel of music and program directors just can’t seem to get enough. Moving right along side of the little kitty is Olivia Rodrigo. Her new track “Traitor” (Geffen/Interscope) is really quite something and the spins tell the tale. Actually at this writing she has three to four tracks on the charts at the same time and it appears that her wild and crazy plan of multiple single releases out is just what the doctor ordered. The new Elton John & Dua Lipa song is getting raves from coast to coast. The song called Cold Heart (Mercury/Warner-Interscope) got a verbal promotion from Ryan Seacrest on the Kelly & Ryan (ABC) national talk show when we professed to having it play over and over again while jogging. How about that for a plug. The numbers for the song are also staggering so Elton has to be pretty thrilled about being back on Top40 where he once spent decades. John Mayer has a new one that’s out and about that many are talking about. “Wild Blue” (Columbia) is the jam and I must admit that it’s a very strong offering that deserves your immediate attention. The Script were a pretty big deal not so long ago, but we really haven’t heard a lot from them as of late. That may be about to change with the release of “I Want It All” (Legacy Recordings). Hearing them now reminds us of why we liked them so much in the first place. Andy Grammer is back and that’s always a good thing. “Damn It Feels Good To Be Me” (S-Curve/Hollywood) is his latest and greatest and I really think that Andy has a real winner on his hands provided his record label makes it a big priority. I’m still head over heals for Tai Verdes and “A-O-K” (Arista) so what do I really know. I’m still spinning Camila Cabello’s “Don’t Go Yet” (Syco/Epic) in my room and it makes me cry every time. Newcomer Sofia Evangelina has found a world of early believers. It’s all due to her debut single “Endure” (Crescendo) that is really exceptional. Word has it that a new single is on the horizon that will take her to an even higher level. So far so good for this emerging new talent. While speaking of talent there is so much going for Garrett Young that I don’t know here to begin. His current “Your Fool” (West Coast Collective) is breaking in multiple formats from pop to Country and it seems that everywhere we turn he is getting support. Garrett is now set for some live shows and if you get the chance to see him check him out as his live performances are quite a treat to the eyes and ears. Chesney Claire is on the move at radio with her new fast moving single “Distracted” (Zeiss). She’s also so talented and her songwriting is getting better with each tune released. Chris Milo has a good thing gong as his “Memories” (Milo Music) single takes flight. Kailee Spark is also “on fire” with her amazing “Universe At Your Fingertips” (Kukuau Studio). Shytown are taking the pop world by storm as their debut “Survive” (Ni Music Group) moves past the rest. Tommy Rice and Patricia Barrett are making bold moves with “You Are My Life...”(Tommy Rice Music) that is nothing short of brilliant & Toni Land has reached greater heights with her “Hip Hip Hurray” (Stagework Music) that everybody raves about. I hope to have more for you next time right here.

Remember the last time you went to a chain restaurant to celebrate someone’s birthday and the restaurant’s staff substituted a restaurant’s unique hand clapping “happy birthday” song for the traditional song? Did you give any thought as to why they didn’t use the traditional song?

Well, consider one further fact: A reported $2,000,000 in licensing fees have been paid annually to Warner Music Group who claims copyright ownership since a 1988 acquisition of several musical holdings which included the well known 120 year old “Happy Birthday to You” song. However, many dispute Warner’s copyright claim, arguing that the song is in “public domain”, available to anyone to use a musician, at some point, the city of withoutIffeeyou’re payment. John & Yoko Ono Lennon’s Global Anthem, “Imagine,” Certified Triple Platinum

As John & Yoko Ono Lennon’s paean for peace, “Imagine,” continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the iconic song has just been certified triple platinum by the RIAA for selling 3 million units in the U.S. The achievement comes on the eve of what would have been John’s 81st birthday this Saturday, October 9th. “John and I were both artists and we were living together, so we inspired each other. The song ‘Imagine’ embodied what we believed together at the time. John and I met – he comes from the West and I come from the East – and still we are together. We have this oneness and ‘the whole world would eventually become one’ is the sense that we will all be very happy together. All these instructions are for people for how to spend eternity, because we have lots of time.”– Yoko Ono Lennon. “We are thrilled to present this award to Yoko for John & Yoko Ono Lennon’s ‘Imagine.’ One of the most important and universally recognized songs in music, this historic achievement coincides as we celebrate the song and album’s 50th anniversary,” said Bruce Resnikoff, President & CEO of UMe. “‘Imagine’ remains a timeless global anthem, and John & Yoko’s message of peace is just as relevant today as when it was first written.” In honor of Imagine’s golden anniversary and John Lennon’s birthday, Yoko Ono Lennon and the John Lennon Estate are celebrating the legendary songwriter, musician, and peace activist with a variety of events and releases throughout the weekend.

Jake Owen Drops Sun-Soaked Anthem “Drunk On A Boat” Big Loud Records’ MULTI-PLATINUM entertainer Jake Owen drops anchor on a good time with his new track “Drunk On A Boat,” letting worries float away today. Out now as a choose-happiness themed anthem, it’s all about riding the waves of a carefree day on the water – instead of a dull day back on land. Featuring a breezy melody and a weekend-anytime singalong, it’s the perfect vessel for Owen’s easy-going Country style. “When I heard this song for the first time, I knew it was right on-brand for me,” says Owen. “I wanted to release ’Drunk On A Boat’ as the sun sets on the season and give everyone a feel-good summer memory as we head into fall.” “Drunk On A Boat” was written by Rodney Clawson, Jake Mitchell and David Lee Murphy, and produced by Joey Moi. The new track follows last month’s release of Owen’s current single, “Best Thing Since Backroads,” which is nearing Top 20 at Country radio after becoming the #1 most-added week upon its arrival. Both of the new songs mark a new chapter from the Florida-born hitmaker, after 2019’s extremely successful GREETINGS FROM…JAKE album. That project featured three charttoppers (“I Was Jack (You Were Diane),” “Homemade,” “Made for You”) and a PLATINUM-certified smash (“Down to the Honkytonk”) – and just crossed ONE BILLION on-demand streams in August. Owen will finish out the month with an October 30 appearance at the star-studded iHeartCountry Festival in Austin, Texas.

For multi-Platinum entertainer Chase Rice, like so many people, the past year was a period of honest introspection as an unexpected break from touring led him to reflect on his decadeplus musical journey to date. The results of such vulnerable and personal reflection are on full display with brand-new single “If I Were Rock & Roll,” produced by Jay Joyce and available everywhere now, as Rice kicks off the next phase of his songwriting-driven career with the first major release he’s written completely independently. “As I sat down to write this song at my dining room table, with nothing but a guitar and the line ‘If I Were Jesus,’ inspired by Bruce Springsteen’s ‘If I Was the Priest,’ I wanted to incorporate all of the things that have been such a huge influence in my life into the lyrics,” notes Rice. “From Earnhardt to my military buddies, to Johnny Cash, to my grandpa… these are all people and memories who have shaped the man I am. It’s a very personal, real song to me and yet how the song ends, with the one that got away, makes it one that I think a lot of people will relate to.”

to Def Leppard. They also graced the stage at Mother of All Rock Festival as the only Mexican band and opened two sold-out Monterrey shows for The Killers and for Def Leppard in Mexico City and Guadalajara. Produced by the legendary David Beneath (Paramore, Bring Me The Horizon, Breaking Benjamin), MAYDAY is a white-knuckle audio ride that dives hard into topics that affect today’s younger generation from love, technology, dealing with generation gaps, anxiety, and the intense pressure to suppress emotions. “We grew a lot by working with David,” said Ale. “He really helped us refine the sound. We’ve matured, but our love for energy is still there!” The Warning moved into high gear earlier this year with the release of a stream of singles off of their album. They quickly racked up a million streams upon the release of “CHOKE,” the album’s first single. Meanwhile, “EVOLVE,” the second single, muses on the ever-present obsession with evolving and examines its dehumanizing impact. Recorded in the band’s native Spanish, “MARTIRIO” dives into the strength derived from acceptance of suffering. The EP kicks off with the fiery “DISCIPLE,” showcasing a band that has evolved and mastered the art of building tension, deftly moving through stunning signature changes, and exploding into compelling choruses that demand the listener to shout-sing along. The album also features the punktinged “ANIMOSITY,” which sends up a clear warning about feelings masked but not buried as well as “Z,” a rebellious song about Generation Z, youth, vices, virtues and the age in which we currently live. “We are so proud to present the first half of our album through the MAYDAY EP,” said the band. “It’s a blend of six wellbalanced songs that touch topics close to our personal experiences – something that hasn’t been the case in our previous works – brought together with newfound musical ways of expressing them!” The Warning has drawn wide acclaim from media including Loudwire, Rolling Stone and Rolling Stone Mexico, and Billboard Argentina. In addition, Pau was called out by Olivia Rodrigo and WILLOW for her stunning drum covers of their songs “brutal” and “transparentsoul” on TikTok.

Blondie to Release Yuletide Throwdown

As the summer months come to a close, one can’t help but look ahead and begin daydreaming about the holidays to come. And this year, legendary New York

rock band Blondie are bringing a little more fun to the holiday season with the release of their EP: Yuletide Throwdown. The 3-track EP, released digitally today, October 8th, and on 12” limited edition vinyl in both magenta and black, on November 5th (via UMe-Capitol/ Numero Group) features the ultra-rare 80’s Christmasinspired track “Yuletide Throwdown,” co-written and performed with Fab 5 Freddy, along with a new, exclusive remix of the song by Cut Chemist. The ultrarare 1981 holiday flexi-disc, now being reissued for the first time on 180gram vinyl, was originally given away by the U.K. magazine Flexipop and then rediscovered as the band was researching and reviewing material from their personal archive for their forthcoming box set, to be released in August of 2022 If it sounds familiar, here’s why: the track was actually the original recording for what would later become one of Blondie’s biggest hits, “Rapture.” After shelving this version because the tempo was recorded too slowly (it was later recut into what became the global hit song), Chris Stein decided to go back into the studio a year later with the original track to record Debbie Harry and Freddy’s “Throwdown” vocals for this cheeky, holiday masterpiece. “It has been an impossible amount of time since I believed in Santa Claus, but I could very well believe again if he was Freddy Brathwaite!! Some of my best times have been making music with Chris Stein and Freddy B,” notes Debbie Harry, with Chris Stein adding: “Freddy has done as much as any multi-platinum selling Hip-Hop star to promote rap culture.” Fab 5 Freddy expands: “In the beginning of my journey into pop culture, Chris & Debbie were among the first to take me and my ideas about hip hop culture seriously and were like mentors to me shining a light along the road and assisting my quest. I’m happy after all this time the world can now hear this fun holiday tune we did way back then! Flash forward 40 years - as the band sought to re-release the original recording, they engaged DJ and producer Cut Chemist (also known for his previous work as a member of both Ozmalti and Jurassic 5) to put his spin on the track, thus rounding out the Yuletide Throwdown EP project Cut Chemist (Lucas MacFadden) explains: “Blondie and Fab 5 Freddy are two giants in their respective cultures. “Yuletide Throwdown” is a perfect example of those worlds coming together. Chris Stein’s music and Debbie trading raps with Fab created something entirely new

Black Sheep is proud to welcome Janelle Arthur to their roster. The American Idol finalist and female vocal powerhouse recently premiered her poignant new video for her emotional self-penned song “Hand Me Downs” (featuring Dolly Parton). Throughout the years of touring, Janelle has traveled the U.S. and abroad performing thousands of shows including multiple appearances on country music’s most hallowed stage, The Grand Ole Opry. “The first time I heard Janelle’s duet ‘Hand Me Downs’ I knew she had a talent like no one I have ever heard. When I had the opportunity to see her perform live that just solidified my belief in her gift. Janelle is a superstar and we are so blessed to be sharing this journey with her,” says Susan Hobbs, CEO/ Black Sheep.

Natalie Hemby’s astounding career has been decades in the making — she has earned two GRAMMY Awards, written eight No. 1 singles, become a founding member of standout female supergroup The Highwomen alongside Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires, and her incomparable songwriting has caught the attention of artists like Sheryl Crow, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Miranda Lambert and many others who have recorded her songs. Sam Outlaw Focuses on Positive Side of Life in “Sun Ain’t Set”

Sam Outlaw’s new wave-inspired record ‘Popular Mechanics’ is due on November 12th, and today (10.8), he’s sharing another preview of what to expect from the ambitious project with the release of “Sun Ain’t Set.” Written solely by Outlaw and produced by Cheyenne Medders, the song is a prime example of Outlaw’s creative evolution. A folk-rooted tune with an aesthetic makeover, the track pairs fretless bass and subtle synths with an effortless, Lauperinspired hook that feels just as fresh as it is nostalgic. “This story is all about choice -- specifically, that each one of us can decide to linger in the pain of the past, or process it, learn from it, and step out into the new day,” Outlaw explains. “The lyrics took on new meaning during the seemingly endless ‘Groundhog Day’ effect of the COVID lockdown, and after reworking the track with Cheyenne [Medders], we ended up with a pop song that perfectly fits into the album’s ecosystem, while also staying true to my voice. “Sun Ain’t Set” is one of seven tracks written solely by the LA-turned-Nashville resident on his forthcoming album ‘Popular Mechanics,’ out Nov. 12th and available for pre-order today (10.8). The song follows in the footsteps of “For The Rest of Our Lives,” the project’s romantic debut.

Amanda Cooksey Released Retro Music Video for Her Latest Breakup Bop “Wish You Were Here”

Keeping with her signature 90’s throwback vibe, Amanda Cooksey is releasing a captivating music video for her latest single “Wish You Were Here.” From the TV set fish tank in the opening scene, to the oversized set of dice, this video is as entertaining visually as the track is musically. Directed by Kolby Copeland, viewers experience a day-inthe-life of someone just trying to make it through a breakup without leaving the house. However, if you lived in this house, why would you ever leave? “I think the ‘Wish You Were Here’ video was one of the most fun music videos I have ever shot. Kolby has directed a few of my other videos, and he always does such a great job capturing my vision. For this video, I wanted to create something fun that felt like the vibe of the song, and I think the location we shot at definitely helped bring that feel to life!” says Amanda Cooksey. Her willingness to take risks and carve out new areas of artistry places Amanda into a special category, among many of her genre-bending inspirations like Taylor Swift, Julia Michaels and Walker Hayes. She has seen success with recent releases, including “What’s His Name” and “In Denial,” both of which have garnished support from Spotify and will be on her debut concept album Him. Amanda is excited to unveil the connection each song has with the release of her album later this month.

Steve Holy’s ‘A Christmas To Remember’ Due Out Next Week

Steve Holy returns to the studio for the first time in nearly a decade to release ‘A Christmas To Remember,’ NMW - OCTOBER 15, 2021

available Fri., Oct. 22 via Thrill Hill Records. Known for his multi-week No.1 singles “Brand New Girlfriend” and “Good Morning Beautiful” -- a song released in 2000 that went on to become one of the decade’s most played songs on country radio -- the Texas native will ring in the holidays with a 10-track album chock-full of festive favorites and one yuletide original. “I haven’t been in the studio in almost 8 years,” says Holy. “And, I couldn’t be more excited to share new music with everyone and celebrate my favorite holiday!” Holy stamps his signature, southern spin on seasonal staples ranging from Bing Crosby’s poetic “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” to Elvis Presley’s merry classic “Santa Claus Is Back In Town” and “Bringing In A Brand New Year,” a ‘60s swing by Charles Brown. The album’s title track and sole original, written by Sam Hunter (who also played guitar on the album) and his father Joe, is a highlight on the project with its reminder to focus on the true reason for the season -- spending much-needed time with loved ones around the holidays -- which is something that won’t be taken for granted this year, as many will gather together in holiday celebration for the first time since 2019. “A lot of thought went into the way we sequenced this record. Starting with ‘A Christmas To Remember,’ about spending time with loved ones and ending with my all-time favorite holiday song, ‘If Every Day Was Like Christmas’ which is really an optimist’s prayer, were conscious decisions to remind all of us what is important this time of year.”

While Johnny Cash had covered Bob Dylan throughout the 1960s leading up to his 4/24/68 show at San Francisco’s Carousel Ballroom, his performance of “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright” from that evening takes on a special level of significance due to the show’s audio engineer: Grateful Dead sonic innovator and “Wall Of Sound” architect Owsley “Bear” Stanley. As Cash and his Tennessee Three infuse the folk anthem with signature “boom-chicka-boom” flair, Stanley’s recording is similarly rich in sonic experimentation and filled with the idiosyncrasies of his own corners of the musical universe. Sam Hunt is as hot as any country artist on the planet. He wears it well as he sends the song “23” (MCA Nashville) out for some radio spins. It’s actually one of his best to date with a chorus that I can’t seem to get out of my head. It appears that Sam is set for another top charter and in record time. If you wanna talk chart-topper, look no further than the great and powerful Eric Church. His new “Heart On Fire” (EMI Nashville) is actually “on-fire” and our music and programmers can’t get enough of it. Already spinning in heavy on many outlets, make sure to include Eric on your list of hot currents or suffer the consequences. At least I gave you a decent and fair warning right? Kane Brown is as hot as they come. His latest in “One Mississippi” (RCANashville) is blowing out the phones and social media is also helping to propel it to even greater heights. I truly believe that this is one of his best to date and don’t doubt me on it please. Also pulling in some rather record setting numbers is Keith Urban. He’s got his new single “Wild Hearts” (Capitol Nashville) in top form and stations are all over this one big time. In fact, there aren’t many stations out there that are not playing it as of this writing. Could be that Keith will take this one to #1 in record time and so far so very good for him. Is Walker Hayes hot or what? “Fancy Like” (Monument/RCA) is not only a super Country hit single, it is also crossing over to pop radio and they are loving it. It appears that this song is set to become a music anthem and make no mistake about that. Chris Young has teamed up with Tenpenny for a real solid winner. “At The End Of A Bar” (RCA Nashville) is the little jam that I’m talking about and watch the numbers on this one explode over the next few weeks. Also back in the saddle after a few missteps is Morgan Wallen. Country is finally putting his music back on radio where it belongs and that includes his latest offering in “Sand In My Boots” (Big Loud/Republic). This track is bringing him back big time. Look for some major news regarding his live dates as he gets set to get out there. Ryan Price is having quite the run for his debut single “Why We Drive Trucks” (Magenta). A great solid Country hit at that. Laci Kaye Booth is red hot and that’s a good thing for country music fans. The track “Shuffle” (19 Recordings/BMLG) is as good as anything out there so make sure to jump on it if you haven’t done so already. I must admit that I’ve been following Midland for a spell now and their new single “Sunrise Tells The Story” (Big Machine) is just what the career has ordered. It’s that good and a bag of chips make it a real party. Nate Barnes has also got a thang going on and you better believe it. “You Ain’t Pretty” (Quartz Hill) tells the tale and the chart numbers on this one seem to get better day by day. Tenille Arts is back where she belongs and that’s on the charts with “Back Then, Right Now” (19th & Grand). Lee Sims also deserves support for his new “Big On Little Things” (Adelphos) that is off like a rocket & what a terrific indie artist he is. Frank Ray is building fans by leaps and bounds. It’s all due to a little tune called “Country’d Look Good On You” (Stoney Creek). It’s one of those great story songs that make us realize just why we are driven to country music. Rob Georg is back on the charts and that’s always a good thing for all of us. “This Gift Called Life” (Coast) is some of his best work yet and we see some #1 action already on the works for this masterpiece. Also getting raves for new music is Eileen Carey. Her new “Leave It All Behind” (Rolley Coaster) is not only building huge numbers at Country, it’s also crossing over to pop radio where they are welcoming her with open arms. She’s always been one of our true favorites. The fabulous Zac Brown Band are back with “Same Boat” (Home Grown/Warner). Chloe Collins is pulling in raves and spins as her “Somebody Else’s” (Collins Music) moves past the pack. I’m also loving new Kevan Michaels called “Down Home Georgia” (Apache Road). I spun it on a little radio show I host called New Music Monday for WNHE radio and it blew up the phones. Kevan is the real-deal and this song deserves to get powered up on all Country radio playlists. Chris Stapleton also has a great song out and about called “You Should Probably Leave” (Mercury Nashville) that is so good. Is there anything this guy does that’s not great? Hey this has been fun so let’s do it again.

C arrie Underwood is no stranger to the word “reality.” After all, as the winner of the 2005 season of “American Idol,” she won the hearts of millions of viewers across the world. Now, the singer has entered into a promotion that is sure to please her fan following.

S ony Music Nashville and Aurasma, the world’s leading augmented reality platform, have partnered to launch an augmented reality promotional campaign for Underwood’s No. 1 album, “Blown Away,” which was released in May. U sing the free Aurasma Lite app for iPhones, iPads and Android devices available from the iTunes App Store and Google Play, fans can launch exclusive video of Underwood that is triggered by aiming the device at the cover image of Blown Away. The video leaps from the Blown Away image on the mobile device or tablet and provides a click-through gateway to the album at the iTunes store. The promotion was launched in Nashville recently at the CMA Music Festival. “ Carrie Underwood is always looking for ways to connect with her fans,” said Gary Overton, Sony Music Nashville chairman and chief executive officer. “We are excited to embrace a cutting-edge technology like augmented reality to help give fans something special and provide a cool, unique connection between the artist and audience. Sony Music Nashville is excited to watch this fun idea unfold and is eager to partner with Aurasma on other future campaigns.” U pon its release on May 1, “Blown Away” made history by debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country albums sales chart making Underwood only the second country artist in the 47 year history of the chart to have each of their first four albums debut at No. 1. “Blown Away” also debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart making Underwood only the second country artist in history to have three consecutive albums debut at No. 1. “Blown Away” became country’s best-selling digital album debut since 2010. “ Carrie Underwood is a proven superstar. We are thrilled to partner with Sony Music Nashville to help increase the momentum of her smash album Blown Away,” said Jennifer Rapp, general manager of Aurasma. “By leveraging augmented reality to bridge the physical and virtual worlds, Sony gives the fans something exclusive and special, helping to keep fans connected and Carrie in the spotlight.” T he free Aurasma app runs on iPhone 3GS (and above), iPad2 (and above), and high-powered Android devices. Y esterday, Underwood performed the first of four concerts on the Australian leg of her tour to promote “Blown Away.” She kicked things off in Melbourne, and will perform in Tamworth and Brisbane on Friday and Saturday, before finishing things in Sydney on Sunday. Also, Underwood has just released the title cut as the second single -- to follow up the chart-topping success of “Good Girl,” which became her fifteenth number one record.

Country Date To Remember: February 11, 1962 Somewhere, around Fenton, Mo, there are some students who can say that they had one of music’s sexiest performers as a teacher. Sheryl Crow - long before she hit it big in 1993 with “All I Wanna Do,” was actually a music teacher at Kellison Elementary School. Though her teaching days in school are long over, Crow - who turns an amazing 50 years old today has educated many of her fans about some of Country Music’s greatest performers, such as Loretta, Hank, and Johnny Cash. Happy Birthday to one of Rock’s top women! NMW - OCTOBER 15, 2021

Concert Crowdfunding: a Supplementary Way to

Fund Shows by Mary Ivanova (show4me.com Whether you are looking to get employed by a band, orchestra or music collective or are preparing for a solo career, putting on concerts can help you practice performing in public, build a great concert resume to help propel your career and even book the job of your dreams. You don’t have to be selling out stadiums or concert halls to be able to muster up an audience for a crowdfunded gig. Moreover, you can start a crowdfunding campaign for a private event for your friends only (a private show for 10-20 people) or an intimate show with under 50 people in attendance. This will both help you dip your toes in crowdfunding and putting together a show on your own.

Where to start? Begin the process with coming up with a topic for your event, approximate playlist, as well as lineup – is it going to be a solo night or will there be any guest artists? What about a host? Next, it’s important to be realistic about your budget. Write up all your costs: venue and staffing fees, equipment rent, promotion, travel/accommodation costs, stage decor and costumes, as well as your own fee and taxes. Be diligent in estimating show budget since you’ll have to set your ticket price and crowdfunding campaign goal based on that. Don’t just ballpark it. Do your research, contact the venue and all the companies/contractors you’ll be using for the event to get their current rates for your specific event. Important note: add 20% on top of your budget for unexpected expenses. Most projects run over budget and it’s better to be safe than sorry. Concert crowdfunding is designed to alleviate the financial risks of putting on a show. Running into red just because you made a miscalculation on the budget sheet would be a shame. Also remember to give some thought to the service you are going to use as your crowdfunding platform. The options can be narrowed down to two categories: general-purpose crowdfunding platforms, like Kickstarter or Indiegogo, or concert-specific services, like Show4me concert crowdfunding toolkit. We recommend the latter since it offers all the tools you might need to hold a professional concert, down to automatic ticket generation and distribution, as well as a free ticket scanner app. Fees on these platforms are success-based and only apply to winning campaigns.

How to promote it? Although crowdfunding music events have been slowly becoming more mainstream, many musicians shy away from them just because it seems weird to ask fans to pay their way into a show or a concert. Thing is, when promoting any event, you have to ask NMW - OCTOBER 15, 2021

your fans to buy your tickets, so any inconvenience you might feel about this is all in your head. It’s important to explain to your fans though that they need to buy tickets early since the show depends on their support. We’ve had artists who crowdfunded their events in Show4me refer to this model of funding as “alternative” or “experimental”. These seem to be fitting terms to describe concert crowdfunding. It’s an alternative to the traditional ticket sales and it’s experimental because the whole process turns into a fun journey where the end result is not guaranteed – the show either raises enough to be held or all contributions get fully refunded to the supporters. In order for an event to happen, you need to market it across your social media, your email list and your community (yes, we are talking calling up your friends, going door to door and printing up physical posters to plaster on local message boards). Exciting description of your upcoming show along with eyecatching promo visuals can significantly improve the chances of your event actually pre-selling enough tickets to happen! (Since all contributions to your crowdfunding campaign are listed as tickets, we consider it fitting to call such a campaign a ticket pre-sale as fans essentially pre-order a concert from you and once it reaches its minimum budget, the tickets get generated automatically and sent out to all backers on your behalf when you set the event date).

My event got funded, now what? So you launched your concert crowdfunding campaign, put your blood and sweat in promoting it and finally met your event budget! Congrats! Now, you need to contact your venue, set the show date, iron out all your event details and coordinate production duties with your team and supporting acts, and start producing your show. You do all of this after you arrange funds withdrawal from your crowdfunding site. As you are putting together your concert, you need to still be very active on your crowdfunding page, as well as social media. Post updates about the preparation process and behind-the-scenes photos and videos. Remember that raising the funds is only half the job, you also need to maintain your fans’ interest leading up to your show! Post updates even from behind the curtain as you are preparing to go on stage. Provide your fans with sneak peaks at the electric atmosphere both off and on stage at your shows and remember to thank everyone who helped you make the show happen: your team, fellow acts, crew, producers, and the fans. Don’t just thank the fans right after the show from the stage though. Take the time to send out thank you notes via email, post them across your social media, in your Show4me Artist club, and even think about using snail mail for notes to your most dedicated fans. Taylor Swift does it, why can’t you! 39
