welcome to

Chichester Cinema This is always a very exciting time of year in the Cinema world. Three of the main Awards Ceremonies follow one another to reveal the best films and performances of the year. The Golden Globes have already been announced (11 Jan), with the BAFTAs on the 8th February and finally the Academy Awards on the 22nd February. You can see how many nominations each film received on our website. On Saturday March 21st, we will be holding our Annual Film Quiz, A Mind for Movies, once again held at the Minerva Brasserie (see centre pages for full details). This is perhaps the most fun night of the New Park calendar, where teams of six (or less), come together to answer multiple choice questions on Cinema, which are presented in the form of image, video and audio clips. I will be joined by Film Lecturer Richard Cupidi to present the Quiz – Join us – and I guarantee you will want to return next year. This film quiz was started by a very special cinema trustee, Marielaine Church, who passed away in 2014. To commemorate Marielaine, her joyous spirit and all she has done for the cinema, we have programmed a one-off screening of ‘True Grit’ (pg33) starring her favourite actor, Jeff Bridges. Chichester Cinema at New Park will be making a donation to The Motor Neurone Disease Association after this screening.

Many of you will notice that two of the big Awards season films, ‘The Theory of Everything’ and ‘Boyhood’, are not included in this brochure. I can confirm that they will be screened at the beginning of our next programme, with the dates and times being confirmed by the end of January. Keep an eye out for updates in the Cinema Foyer, or better still, join our weekly email list (via our website: www.chichestercinema.org) to be made aware of the dates as soon as we put them on sale. See you at the Cinema

Charlie’s Country

David Gulpilil won the 2014 Cannes ‘Un Certain Regard’ Best Actor for his role as an Australian Aboriginal who returns to living in “the old way”. We follow Charlie (Gulpilil) as he makes his way through life on his reservation, finding solace and loneliness in the Bush, and following a dark path in the big city. A great mix of the comic and the sombre, the film rests almost entirely on the remarkable performance by Gulpilil. The film, to its credit, avoids coming across as pedantic or preachy, nor does it shy away from the very real hostilities and historical injustices that are endemic to Australian history. ‘Charlie’s Country’ comes across as far more than some tourist destination, we are invited into his land to experience the highs and lows of the life he has made there. De Heer has a proven record with films such as ‘The Tracker’ and ‘Ten Canoes’, and with the hypnotic Gulpilil in front of the camera, this is a film that will linger in the mind. An adaptation of Vera Brittain’s 1933 WW1 novel which focuses less on the trenches and more on the effect on those left at home. Spring 1914, and Vera (Alicia Vikander, a Swede displaying a faultless Brit accent), her brother Edward (Taron Egerton) and his friend Victor (Colin Morgan from BBC’s ‘Merlin’) prepare to go to Oxford, but her parents (Dominic West and Emily Watson) won’t let her go. But Vera has her heart set on it, doubly so when she meets the handsome Roland (Kit Harington, from ‘Game of Thrones’). Just as they’re set to start Oxford together, war breaks out, and the boys, feeling they have to do their duty, enlist. Feeling helpless with the boys in her life facing danger, Vera drops out of university to become a nurse, but in the face of so much carnage, do her beau, her brother, and her admirer stand anything close to a chance? Guys and Dolls

Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons star in this beautifully restored musical classic set in the 1950’s. Nathan Detroit (Sinatra), the fixer of New York’s longest established floating crap game, is feeling the heat on all sides. The cops are bearing down on him, his clientele have full wallets and itchy dice fingers, and his fiancée is demanding a wedding that’s been 14 years in the making. Desperate for cash to arrange his next game, Nathan makes a sucker bet with travelling high-roller Sky Masterson (Brando): woo the leader of the local save-a-soul mission, or lose $1000. Both gambler and fixer get more than they bargained for when love and the law start to close in on their games and the stakes start to rise heavenward. USA 1955 Joseph L. Mankiewicz 150m

British Artists and the Spanish Civil War To complement and support the exhibition at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, we present the following 2 films screening at Chichester Cinema at New Park.

The Guernica Children In the wake of the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, four thousand Basque refugee children were evacuated to Britain. This was the largest single contingent of refugees ever to arrive in this country. Seventy years on, we hear their extraordinary story and of the conflict between humanitarian need and political convenience that ensued. Mon 2 Feb 19:00 (In the Studio)

Ken Loach’s acclaimed 1936-set film about the Spanish Civil War stars Ian Hart as a disillusioned Liverpudlian who decides to follow his principles and join the fight against fascism in Spain. Taking up with a poorly armed Republican alliance, he soon becomes enmeshed in the desperate struggle to protect the country’s democratic government from General Franco’s advancing armies. David bonds deeply with his comrades, especially the beautiful Blanca (Rosana Pastor), but is dismayed as political infighting threatens to plunge the whole resistance movement into turmoil. Epic in scope and brilliantly acted, Land and Freedom is one of the most unique, powerful and moving war films ever made UK 1995 Ken Loach 109m We are showing this film in a rare 35mm print.

David McVicar directs a new production of Umberto Giordano’s passionate drama of liberty and love in the French Revolution, starring Jonas Kaufmann and Eva-Maria Westbroek and conducted by Antonio Pappano. A fictionalized account of the last years of the French poet Andrea Chénier, guillotined during the Reign of Terror in 1794. It is the greatest of Giordano’s operas, and shows why Puccini sometimes feared Giordano as a rival. Taking the starring role of Chénier, with its three marvellous arias, is Jonas Kaufmann, Dutch soprano EvaMaria Westbroek sings the role of Chénier’s beloved Maddalena (which includes the great aria ‘La mamma morta’, a favourite with Maria Callas) and Serbian baritone Zeljko Lucic stars as Carlo Grard - the servant-turnedrevolutionary who is Chénier’s rival for the love of Maddalena. 180m approx inc interval

This exciting new familyfriendly production of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic pirate adventure of murder, money and mutiny is brought to life in a thrilling new stage adaptation by Bryony Lavery, broadcast live from the vast Olivier stage at the National Theatre. It’s a dark, stormy night. The stars are out. Jim, the inn-keeper’s granddaughter, opens the door to a terrifying stranger. At the old sailor’s feet sits a huge sea-chest, full of secrets. Jim invites him in - and her dangerous voyage begins. It’s written by Bryony Lavery, whose family drama credits include adaptations of ‘The Hundred and One Dalmatians’ and ‘A Christmas Carol’, and her trademark is strong female characters. Here she puts a new spin on the story by re-casting Jim Hawkins (Patsy Ferran) as a girl. Directed by Polly Findlay, this show is suitable for 10 years and over. 180m including interval.

With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. Based on the contemplative Nick Hornby novel of the same name, where Cheryl Strayed (Golden Globe nominated Reese Witherspoon), a reckless young woman who’s reached the edge of a psychological cliff, embarks upon a 1,100-mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. The hike, through heat, cold, rain, snow, fog, isolation and the potential danger posed by wild animals and a few predatory humans she encounters along the way, isn’t just a gruelling physical trial. It’s a spiritual journey. Based on actual events, this is a gripping story of fragile men who pinned their hopes for love and redemption on a desperate obsession for greatness. Some men earn respect and some men buy it. ‘Foxcatcher’ is the weird and tragic story of wealthy eccentric John Du Pont’s (Steve Carell) obsession with the sport of Greco Roman Wrestling and how it lead him to recruit two of the USA’s greatest wrestlers, Mark and David Schultz (Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo), to form a new base of operations for American wrestling out of his Foxcatcher ranch. Like Bennet Miller’s earlier biopic ‘Capote’, this has the sense that that we’re treading through painful memories and every space feels ominous. The three leads are exquisite (Tatum nails his character’s neanderthal side; Carell is exquisite), but it is Ruffalo’s sublime performance that stands out the most. USA 2014 Bennett Miller 134m

Au Revoir Les Enfants (Goodbye, Children) Louis Malle’s classic WW2 drama – most agree his best film - is restored and reissued. During the Nazi occupation of France, a young Catholic boardingschool student witnesses the courage of his teachers as they defy the anti-Semitic policies, and quietly enrol Jewish children in their school using assumed names. Malle creates an authentic mood of unspoken suspicions and everyday secrecy, drawing upon performances, decor, even nature itself to paint a wintry portrait of childhood on the brink of horrific discovery. The great Louis Malle based this movie on his rueful recollection of an event that happened at his own school during WWII. (Subtitles) France 1987 Louis Malle 104m

From acclaimed director Ridley Scott comes the epic adventure of Moses - the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Scott (‘Gladiator’, ‘Prometheus’) brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues. The timeless aspects of sibling rivalry, racial enmity and being at the mercy of God or fate or the elements resonate powerfully, and there’s no question that this is meaty, masterfully crafted and decidedly entertaining. The first of our two Royal Shakespeare Company 2015 productions. Both share a setting of a splendid country house just before and after WW1. As part of the WW1 commemoration, Christopher Luscombe returns to the RSC to direct a single company of actors in a fresh pairing of two of Shakespeare’s most sparkling comedies. ‘Love’s Labour’s Lost’ and ‘Love’s Labour’s Won’ (‘Much Ado About Nothing’). Shakespeare’s comedy delights in championing and then unravelling an unrealistic vow, and mischievously suggesting that the study of the opposite sex is in fact the highest of all academic endeavours. Only at the end of the play is the merriment curtailed as the lovers agree to part, unaware that the world around them is about to be utterly transformed by the war to end all wars. Eastern Boys

Some films take a while to engage their audience. Campillo’s masterful ‘Eastern Boys‘, grips you from the first frame. Middle-aged Daniel (Olivier Rabourdin) meets much younger Marek (Kirill Emelyanov) – one of a gang of East European men – at Paris’ Gare du Nord and arranges a paid-for hook-up at Daniel’s place the next day. The two are interrupted by a gang who strip Daniel’s house bare during a superbly staged “party” sequence, with the camera cavorting to the soundtrack’s pounding electronica. But this is only the start of a story that takes another twist when Marek returns to keep his date with Daniel. (Subtitles) France 2013 Robin Campillo 128m

The day-to-day routines of employees at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Shot during the renovation of the museum’s Kunstkammer galleries, this film is as elegant as its subject, beautifully capturing the magnificent rooms that house paintings, sculpture, jewels, armour, clothing and all manner of historical artefacts, while also seeming to always be in just the right place, even down to the camera angle and lighting, to capture a small but telling moment. Shot with no off-screen commentary, interviews or background music, the film observes the various processes involved in creating a perfect setting for art. The Circle Der Kreis

The early days of gay rights are lovingly presented in this docudrama about Swiss gay magazine ‘The Circle’. At the heart of his touching film is a love story between two men now well into their eighties and happily married. Röbi and Ernst met at a Circle ball in 1956. Ernst was a shy teacher and Röbi an 18- year-old drag act and Greta Garbo-like beauty. In an interview, they (sweetly bickering about dates and the order of events) tell us about their relationship and ‘The Circle’, while actors recreate their story. Their story is that of many other gay couples - gay rights, disapproval and homophobia. “We are not criminals,” Ernst says - the knowledge to make the proclamation obviously hard-won indeed. What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than with this classic romantic comedy at New Park. Paul (George Peppard) is a lonely, struggling writer who becomes enchanted with his neighbour: the young and independent Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn at her most radiant) who strives to be a high-climbing socialite with a penchant for high-fashion and wild parties. But, soon he uncovers the vulnerability she has at heart. Romantic comedy is a difficult genre to perfect and it has rarely been done as well as it is here. Hepburn and Peppard create the kind of screen chemistry that comes along all too rarely. The humour and the Oscar-winning refrains of Henry Mancini’s score maintain the feelgood factor, and the result is a charming fable of love in big, bad New York. All this, and one of the best cats ever to grace the screen. USA 1961 Blake Edwards 115m

From director Clint Eastwood comes “American Sniper,” starring Bradley Cooper as the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history. In Iraq Chris Kyle is a deadly killer, known as the Legend and with a bounty on his head. Back home he is a husband and father. The contrast between these two personas is difficult for him to come to terms with, especially with his macho upbringing where asking for emotional or mental help is seen as a weakness. Cooper, who has gone from just a pretty face to genuine actor and movie star, clearly threw himself into the part. He bulked up considerably and speaks with a Texan accent. Eastwood directs the action packed scenes very well, but it is the quieter scenes behind the scope, where Kyle must choose life or death for those in his sights, that stay with you. It is undoubtedly the best jazz movie since Round Midnight and Bird. Andrew Neyman (Miles Teller) is an ambitious young jazz drummer, single-minded in his pursuit to rise to the top of his elite east coast music conservatory. Plagued by the failed writing career of his father, Andrew hungers day and night to become one of the greats. Terence Fletcher (Golden Globe nominated J.K. Fletcher discovers Andrew and transfers the aspiring drummer into his band, forever changing the young man’s life. The latest film from director J.C. Chandor is a rigorous crime drama which paints a knotty, nuanced portrait of the man who fuelled the 1980s. Set during the winter of 1981 - statistically one of the most crimeridden of NY’s history - we follow the lives of an immigrant (Oscar Isaac - last seen in the Coen brothers’ ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ - gives a commanding performance as the embattled entrepreneur) and his family (including Jessica Chastain as his wife) as they attempt to capitalize on the American Dream, while the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built. This bio-pic is an exploration of the last quarter century of the great, if eccentric, British painter J.M.W. Turner’s life. When his father dies, he travels to Margate to paint, and meets Sophia, who succumbs to the artist’s charms long before she finally discovers who he is, and why everyone else thinks he’s so damned important. Meanwhile, Turner mingles among the aristocracy and rules the roost at the Royal Academy. Adieu au Langage Watching this film is as close as we’ll get to being able to be Jean-Luc Godard, sitting there thinking, or dreaming. It’s a documentary of a restless mind. The idea is simple: a dog wanders from town to country, and over the seasons observes a married woman and a single man as they meet, love and argue. At 83, Godard works as a truly independent filmmaker, unencumbered by all concerns beyond the immediate: to create a work that embodies his own state of being in relation to time, light, colour and cinema itself. The artist’s beloved dog Roxy is the de facto “star” of this film - the only one to get a round of applause mid-screening at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the ‘Prix du Jury’. When they discover that the Duchess has secretly married and carries Antonio’s child, they exact a terrible revenge. Featuring Gemma Arterton in the title role, this is a thrilling combination of brilliant coups de théâtre, horrific set-pieces and vivid characters, all lit by Webster’s obsessional imagination. However such personality traits made him the perfect candidate for his top secret job of cracking the code for the machine aptly entitled ‘Enigma’. The Face of an Angel Both a journalist and a documentary filmmaker chase the story of a murder and its prime suspect. Daniel Brühl and Kate Beckinsale star in Michael Winterbottom’s moving new drama. London-based director Thomas (Brühl) travels to Siena in Italy to work on his latest movie based on the trial of an American student charged with the murder of her British housemate. The film is itself inspired by the real-life case of Amanda Knox. The crime and trial continue to be hugely controversial, but Michael Winterbottom sensitively avoids sensationalism. Instead, as the film sees Thomas drawn into the conspiracy theories surrounding the murder and grows close to a young British woman (Cara Delevingne), the film emerges as a gripping study of the responsibilities of storytellers to the truth and to their subjects. Suffused with a moving sense of loss for the student, this is a soulful and sophisticated puzzle-piece drama, with Brühl in great form. UK 2014 Michael Winterbottom 100m Following on from last year’s Chichester Film Festival retrospective on director Michael Winterbottom and producer Andrew Eaton, we are delighted to welcome them both to introduce and discuss their latest film with a special preview before its general UK release.

Der Fliegende Holländer A darkly insightful, Olivieraward-nominated account of Wagner’s early masterpiece from the Royal Opera House featuring Bryn Terfel as the Dutchman. The Flying Dutchman has been cursed for eternity. Once every seven years he is allowed to come ashore to seek redemption. He may have found it in Senta, who accepts his offer of marriage. Shortly before its premiere in Dresden, Wagner had returned from a deeply unsuccessful stint in Paris, but the premiere was an immense success, and marked the beginning of Wagner’s career as one of the greatest operatic composers. Wagner originally wrote the work to be performed without intermission – an example of his efforts to break with tradition – this production will follow this directive. As part of the WW1 commemoration, Christopher Luscombe returns to the RSC to direct a single company of actors in a fresh pairing of two of Shakespeare’s most sparkling comedies, set in the shadow of war. ‘Love’s Labour’s Won’ (or ‘Much Ado About Nothing’) begins four years later in the autumn of 1918 with a worldweary Benedick and Claudio returning from the trenches to a post-war house party, where Claudio falls in love with Hero and Benedick reignites his altogether more combative courtship with Beatrice. In Search of Chopin

A new film from the director of the award winning and critically acclaimed ‘In Search of …’ Mozart, Beethoven & Haydn’. Phil Grabsky brings to the cinema the life and music of Fryderyk Chopin – for many, the greatest composer of the 19th century. His grave in Paris remains a place of pilgrimage and his music continues to sell out concert halls worldwide – but who exactly was this man who was terrified of public performance, fled his Polish homeland for Paris, took up with the most notorious transvestite in France, rarely performed and, despite a life of ill-health, wrote some of the deepest and most powerful music of the 1800’s? By talking to respected historians and bringing to the screen performances by the world’s most revered musicians, Grabsky hopes to answer those questions. Juliet Stevenson provides narration and David Dawson brings life to Chopin’s letters. UK 2015 Phil Grabsky 110m

The story of the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history. The beauty and brilliance of ‘Selma’ is how the filmmakers humanize every aspect of their story, refusing to make it a historical pageant. Oyelowo’s performance is crucial in achieving this goal: he is as believable in a quiet domestic scene as he is in his most majestic moments, rallying his people with a galvanizing speech. We see King in his various roles as leader, negotiator, mediator, and husband. USA 2015 Ava DuVernay 127m

The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance A black comedy that tells the story of an actor - famous for portraying an iconic superhero - as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton) is a Hollywood icon known for playing a superhero called Birdman but now washed-up, half-crazed and trying to make a comeback on Broadway. Actor Mike Shiner (Edward Norton) is so gifted - and so fearless, at least on stage - that he all but takes over the play, he is Riggan’s worst nightmare. Keaton is scarily persuasive as a man who’s been through hell and back again, and is ably supported by a great cast which also includes Naomi Watts - and look out for the wonderful cinematography. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s (‘Amores Perros’, ‘Babel’) film blurs the lines between truth and fiction in a fascinating exploration of modern madness. USA 2014 Alejandro González Iñárritu 119m

Prokofiev’s finest ballet based on Shakespeare’s tragic love story and superbly choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich. The feud between the Montague and Capulet families is bringing bloodshed to the streets of Verona. So when the Capulets organise a masked ball in honour of their daughter Juliet, Romeo Montague and his friend Mercutio attend incognito. The young couple fall hopelessly in love, but soon realise that they belong to rival houses. Choreographed by the Bolshoi’s legendary former artistic director Yuri Grigorovich, this production benefits from outstanding performances by Alexander Volchkov as Romeo and Anna Nikulina as Juliet. Its centrepiece is the instantly recognisable, supremely dramatic ‘Dance of the Knights’, which was appropriated as the theme tune for ‘The Apprentice’. (Recorded in 2013). Rosi’s documentary about a Rome highway is a surprising delight. He brings humour and sensitivity to those who live around the Grande Raccordo Anulare, Rome’s ring road. Without politics, he taps into the everyday life of society’s fringe dwellers in a series of sketches. Dvořák + Hindemith Dvořák - in Love?

Tony Palmer introduces his documentary originally made for Czechoslovakian television. In the early 1980s Palmer visited Prague looking for books about Dvořák, Czechoslovakia’s most famous composer, surprisingly, there were none. In 1988 he filmed a new recording of the Cello Concerto in Prague, the soloist was Julian Lloyd-Webber. There is now added poignancy since he has just recently retired from public playing. Dvořák Cello Concerto is one of the most popular concertos ever written. Czechoslovakia / UK 1988 Tony Palmer 52m

Swan Lake

Sun 22 Mar 14:00 Tickets £17.50 (Friends/Students £15)

Delayed live from Royal Opera House Surely the greatest of all Romantic ballets, this is the captivating story of a beautiful woman transformed into a swan, and a heart-rending tribute to the power of love. ‘Swan Lake’ is a perfect synthesis of choreography and music and, though Tchaikovsky did not live to see it become a success, his first ballet score is now synonymous with ballet itself, inspiring generations of dancers and crossing over into popular culture. From the earliest days of the Vic-Wells Ballet, ‘Swan Lake’ has been one of The Royal Ballet’s signature works. In creating this production, Anthony Dowell aimed to return to an authentic version of the choreography created by the great Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov for the Mariinsky Theatre in 1895. The court scenes of Acts I and III have a dark glamour rooted in the opulent style of Carl Fabergé, while the famous lakeside ‘white’ acts are rich with mist, shadow and moonlight. Choreography: Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov; Music by Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky; Odette/ Odlie - Natalie Osipova; Prince Siegfried - Matthew Golding; Orchestra of the Royal Opera House; Conductor - Boris Gruzin; Ballet in four acts. 180m including 2 intervals.

Life of Riley

Aimer, Boire et Chanter A unique, ingeniously structured and poignantly jubilant farewell from one of the greatest directors of all time - Alain Resnais. Adapted from Ayckbourne’s play ‘Relatively Speaking’, this is the ebullient and highly stylized story of the emotional entanglements among three couples living in the English countryside. When the couples learn that a mutual friend George is terminally ill, their shared bonds are laid bare and Resnais’ exquisitely developed characters begin to grapple with their own mortality and romantic vision of life. This delightful, fanciful comedy is given much added life by performances from a strong cast, pungent dialogue and splendid scenes of the English countryside. Julianne Moore is mesmerising in her portrayal of a professor stricken with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Alice Howland (Moore), happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. At first she dismisses her random acts of forgetfulness as middle-aged memory malaise, but then she panics when, on her daily run, she becomes disoriented. The world looks hazy and unfamiliar as Alice struggles to find her way home, and when she receives a diagnosis of Early-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease, Alice and her family find their bonds thoroughly tested. Her struggle to stay connected to who she once was is frightening, heart-breaking, and inspiring. Julianne Moore shows her wide ranging skill again, and has been touted as favourite to win Best Actress in all the major Awards of the season. USA 2014 Richard Glatzer / Wash Westmoreland 101m

My Name is Salt Farida Pacha’s documentary profiles people and families who spend a few months out of every year living in a saline desert and mining salt. Year after year, for an endless eight months, thousands of families move to a desert in India to extract salt from the burning earth. Every monsoon their salt fields are washed away, as the Gujarati desert turns into sea. And still they return, taking pride in producing the whitest salt in the world. Director Farida Pacha has opted for a lyrical approach, evoking the insistent rhythms of the family’s labour. The sound of the pump sets a bass drum beat that’s repeated in the sound of slapping chapatis flat for the grill, while shuffling of their feet across the salt to break it up adds a faster high-hat tempo. Every shot is near perfectly composed and balanced. (Subtitles) Netherlands 2013 Farida Pacha 92m

Blind

Eskil Vogt’s first feature film is proof that this is a director worth keeping an eye on. Having recently lost her sight, Ingrid (Dorrit Petersen) retreats to the safety of her home - a place where she can feel in control, alone with her husband and her thoughts. But Ingrid’s real problems lie within, not beyond the walls of her apartment, and her deepest fears and repressed fantasies soon take over. Trying to navigate a world without vision, Ellen spends her days attempting to reconstruct an Oslo she once knew. To preserve some sort connection to reality, she begins drafting a sexually charged story of fictional characters she can speak through. ‘Blind’ seamlessly oscillates from bruising drama to uproarious Norwegian comedy with tact.
